...It was likely the other two wouldn't hear her exact words, but maybe they would just hear her voice. "Hey!" She said it louder, almost a yell.

"Eli, I think we should go right."

"No, Daniel, right will only take us closer to the others. Left is better." Eli replied hurriedly, waving the flashlight to the left. "Plus it doesn't smell as bad that way." Daniel sniffed the air to the right, paused, and then leaned to his left an sniffed again. Eli laughed.

"I was just joking about the smell." Eli dodged as a fist came flying at his shoulder. "C'mon man can't you take a-" he was cut off. There came a loud yell and Eli startled, dropping the flashlight. The glass lens shattered.

"What the heck was that?" Daniel asked, frightened.

"I don't know, over here." Eli pulled Daniel to the wall so they could hide in the shadow. Looking down at the broken flashlight Eli sighed. They strained their eyes in the darkness and they could hear footsteps.

"Footsteps!" Daniel whispered but noticably excited. "Hello!?" He cried out "Who's there?"

The cries carried throughout the underground tunnel.

...She reached out a hand and took hold of his wrist, making sure that the one hand he was using to hold himself up didn't slip. As she reached down her other hand, she grasped tighter. "Pull as best you can. I can't do this on my own."

Brian struggled as the ground continued to shake violently. His fingers began to hurt from the strain. Swinging his arm around he fumbled for a good grip on her hand. Suddenly his face showed absolute terror as he looked behind Ember. It was hideous. It had a torso that looked similar to a human but its arms curved and twisted to a point that resembled scythes. Its lower half lay coiled on the ground like a snake's. An unnerving hiss came from its raised head and it rounded on Ember. Brian summoned his breath and yelled a warning.

"B-Behind you!" He struggled to pull himself up to aid her but to no avail.

Lily was out of breath from running, her sounds of panting seemed to echo about her. However, her heart leapt once more as she heard the voice. She could have cried she was so happy. She tried to call out, but it came out as a wheezing sound. She had to stop running and catch her breath. She stopped, her hand still pressed against the wall beside her. She bent over and continued to breath heavily, her chest heaving up and down. After a few seconds, she had caught her breath enough to speak. She stood up once more, now starting to walk again so she could cover the distance before the two she had seen walked away. "Hello?! Is someone there?" She searched the darkness before her frantically, hoping she hadn't lost them somehow. "Please, I'm just looking for a way out." She was yelling as loud as she could, hoping that they had heard her. Please be human. She thought to herself. That would be the last thing she needed, walking into more of those creatures.

Daniel heard the voice and shuffled around to where it sounded like it was coming from. Eli was torn. He, too, wanted to get out of here but he also didn't want to have to drag someone else along. He shook his head a little as he heard Daniel greet the person then got up walked over himself.

"-can't believe what's going on out there. But it's good we found you." Daniel was talking to her. Eli sighed, he didn't really like girls. Daniel turned around and started to introduce his friend.

"Oh, right. This is Eli. Eli, this is...what was your name again?"

Lily was smiling, though she was still breathing a little heavy from her running earlier. "Lily." She said, in answer to Daniel's question. "I'm so glad I caught up to you. To be honest, this place gives me the creeps, but it seemed like the only option when I was back on the street. Anyways, do either of you have any clue as to how to get out of here. As much as the whole creepy, dark, stinking sewer thing is quite fun and romantic, I would love to be back on the surface. God only knows how many more of those....things could be lurking about." As she said this she looked about her, though it would do no good since she couldn't see more than a foot or two in front of her.

She looked down the tunnel for a moment, still a little nervous. She didn't realize it, but she was trembling. Her hand was pressed against the wall to steady herself, but her attention was on the fork before her, trying to decide which route would be best. "I thought I saw a light earlier." She said, thinking of the reason she had gone this way, rather than the other direction.

"Bah, it was probably our flashlight." Eli said, kicking it around on the ground.

"Yeah, you really startled Eli and that's when he dropped it." Daniel explained matter-of-factly. Eli grimaced and was thankful the darkness prevented much of his face from being seen. He didn't like the thought of someone thinking he was easily frightened. Hastily he pounced on Lily's other question.

"We should probably go down the left tunnel. If we go to the right..." Abruptly he stopped and leaned as though trying to listen.

"What's the-" Daniel started

"Shh!" Eli waved his hand for silence. There came a clicking sound that came echoing through the tunnels. Several quick ones and then loud ones. They stopped and Eli crept forward, back towards the area they and Lily entered. His heart hammered the inside of his chest. Daniel looked quizzically at Lily. Eli stopped underneath a manhole cover. There was no sound coming from ground level. He turned to look back at Lily and Daniel but at that moment a sharp hiss came from behind him and he whipped around.

It slithered forward and tilted its head. A clicking noise came from its lopsided mouth. It had no eyes but Eli felt pierced by some non-existant gaze and knew his presence was known. Slowly, Eli crept backward hoping Daniel would keep his mouth shut. Then three things happened in rapid succession. Eli slipped and fell, the creature leaned up and screeched horribly loud and shot itself forward with alarming speed. Scrambling to get back on his feet Eli abandoned any preservation of silence.

"Run!" He yelled, fumbling into a run. Daniel trailed behind Lily.

"Left or right, Lily. Hurry!"

Lily felt terrible that she had been the reason for the flashlight being dropped. She had really hoped to get away from this darkness. However, as she had now spent a good amount of time in the dark, she could make out faint outlines. She could see a little better, her eyes having adjusted as much as they would to her dark surroundings. Lily had been listening to Eli when he had cut off. She stared at him quizzically, though she kept her mouth shut as he gave Daniel a quick 'Shh'. Her eyes went wide at the outline she saw, her heart pounding as she heard that hissing sound. She could have screamed, save for the feeling of her heart leaping into her throat. She couldn't speak, couldn't make a sound at all. For a few seconds she was frozen in horror, then she was snapped out of it by that awful screech.

Lily clasped her hands over her ears to buffer the sound, but it did little help. She took a step forward, finding movement in her body once more, when she saw Eli fall. However, he managed to get up on his own and she began to run, wanting to get as far away from that creature as possible. She had no time to think, no time to decide which route was better. She went with instinct and pointed towards the left hand fork. "Left!" She screamed, hoping she was heard over the sound of the creature. Without waiting, without hesitation, she darted down that way. She had been stopped long enough to get her wind back from her first run. Now adrenaline and fear pushed her faster than before. She was simply thankful that she was in good shape, and would likely be able to keep this up, especially under the circumstance. She finally let go of her ears and thrust a hand out to the wall, guiding herself along. Only her fingertips touched the side, so that she would not be slowed down. She forced herself to look forward, and nowhere else.

Puffin bolted through the alleyway and turned a corner. The smell became more and more intoxicating the closer she got to it. She stuck her nose to the ground. Sniffing harder now she was sure it was upon her now. Suddenly a figure appeared. It looked human as far as Puffin could tell but it was slimy, and it smelled sweet. It bent down and looked at Puffin with a blank face. Something was…different about it. Moving its head rigidly, it looked around the alley. Its attention though was abruptly turned towards the end of the alleyway as trash cans tumbled from around the corner and Aaron came running.
Aaron did everything he could do to keep up with the dog, but seriously, that thing could run fast. Leaping and bounding over anything that got in his way, he approached the edge of the alley where the dog had turned. Hopefully the dog did not make too many turns beyond that or he would of lost her. And there goes his future clients and everything as well. He was starting to get a bit annoyed... beyond a bit annoyed as he sprinted through the alley.

There just as he came out of the entrance was Puffin... and... who was... what was that? There was an odd...figure, he was not able to quite make it out just yet, perhaps if he got closer he would get a better look, but for now all he could notice was the weird movement of it. He knew exactly what it was! Some old bum or drug addict who had the jitters, and was probably wondering why a mangy mutt was doing in the alley for. Actually....

As he continued to watch, it did not look like the man was going to kick the dog or anything, instead it looked like it was perhaps appreciating it. After all how many poodles do you see in the middle of an alley? Very rare sight indeed. However that's all he could really gather from his distance, if he approached closer he was sure he would actually find out the truth to the matter, but for now his assumption would do.

Aaron started to make his way towards the man and the dog, and greeted him in a cheerful tone, better not alarm the man, right? "Hi there, it seems my friends dog got lost, but at least he found good company, I hope she didn't bother you too much. I'll take her off your hands." He approached closer, trying to get a good look at the man. He was hoping the guy would not lunge at him and try to steal his wallet or anything. After all, a poodle was a lot of money, so if the man thought he was the one who owned it, the man might think Aaron was loaded. There was no way he was going to lose money over this deal. So he would have to approach with quite a cautious manner, although inertly, for he did not want the man to know he was ready to kick his butt if he tried anything. He'd look week probably with his cheery mood, but it'd work, right? Eh either way, Aaron approached the man ever still, with his charasmatic smile.

Daniel and Eli bounded around the corner after Lily. There seemed to be no way to escape being overcome. Glancing backwards he could see the creature rapidly advancing.

The water on the ground made it slippery to run and Daniel found it difficult to keep upright. He chanced looking behind himself but realized quickly his mistake. Turning around disoriented him and he tripped and fell, crying out. Eli, too focused on running, didn't notice and tumbled over Daniel and slammed into the ground. Staring at the beast as it came within seconds of reaching them Daniel could think of nothing else to yell as he lay helpless.

"Lily!" Worry flashed even stronger across his face as he considered the notion that Lily could have very well been so focused on running as Eli had been that she would be bounding further and further away.

The strange person simply stared blankly at Aaron as he came forward. Oddly, this particular scent smelled sweet to Puffin but to someone like Aaron's nose it would have smelled distinctly unpleasant. Sounds of traffic and city life felt muffled in the alleyway and Puffin pranced around Aaron expressing her excitement at having found the source of the smell. Then there came a strange clicking noise. It sounded as though perhaps the person was making it but its mouth remained quite still. Their bizarreness was only enhanced by their stumbling movements as they moved forward. The clicks grew louder as they approached. The person stopped a few feet away from Aaron and fixed him with an unblinking gaze. Puffin grew a little uneasy and whimpered a little and pawed at Aaron's legs to be lifted into his arms.

Lily quite literally slid to a stop as she heard her name. She had been quite focused on running, but the sound had pierced her franctic thoughts like an arrow. Water splashed about as she breaked her running by simply not lifting her feet. There was enough water for her to simply slide along. She turned about as she slid, making in one clean movement, like an ice skater breaking. a look of horror spread across her face as she saw the outlines of the two guys, lying on the floor, with the creature rapidly approaching.

Lily didn't think, she didn't have time to. It took no time at all for her to rush back, heading towards the guys. However, she didn't slow down. She ran past them towards the creature. She had never really been one for thinking through things, but more of an 'act on impulse' kind of girl. She reached into her pocket and grabbed out her keys, which hun on a fabric necklace. She held the neck piece and began to swing the keys as though it were a weapon. She slowed down, now blocking the path between the creature and Eli and Daniel. She didn't look over her shoulder as she spoke to the two guys. "Get out of here, now!" Was she trying to be brave? Perhaps, or maybe she was just being extremely stupid. Either way, she was trying to buy them time to get up and get to safety. She looked at the creature, completely disgusted, and swung her keys in front of her in a threatening manner. All she had to do was buy them a little time so they could recover from their fall, then she would be out of there. She only hoped that they didn't take too long, that creature didn't look too friendly.

Phew, Aaron's nostrils thanked puffin for coming back to him, and not make him venture any closer to the man. Seriously though, Aaron knew bums smelt bad, but that horrible? That was an abomination to man kind. He would of loved to just hand the man the thirty bucks he earned, and tell him to find some pool or something to clean himself up. He was just happy he was in an open space, meaning that the smell could be overlooked if he was a bit further back...

However, it seemed that was the least of his problems. A clicking sound, what could that be? It was quite odd, and Aaron could not place it. He was thinking it came from the man, it surely did sound like that, but... no, it sound worse than that, almost inhumane. As Aaron continued to look at the bum, he started to notice features he didn't notice before... His heart started to pound. What kind of bum was this? There was no way he would just stand here and find out.

Quickly he picked up puffin and started to back off slowly, remaining facing the bum just to make sure he didn't seem like there was a problem, and casually saying, "Well it looks like I better go, his master is probably waiting for him." Yes he hoped that would bid him with enough time to take off running and away from the man. That sound was definitely not up his alley. So with that said, he would try to make it as fast as he could out of this alley.

Eli slammed into the ground and his arms scraped against the ground. "Dammit" he mumbled, trying to regain his composure. He heard Daniel yell for Lily but was too late. There was no reason to it. "I can take it myself" thought Eli "Lily just needs to run". In her haste to return to them Eli heard her knock against a pile of bent piping near a wall. Barely listening when Lily told them to run, Eli flew over and grabbed a mangled pipe and ran back.

"Get up" He told Daniel.

"W-what are you doing?" Daniel stammered. A loud screech and a muffled thud. The creature knocked into Lily completely ignoring the waving keys. It was not heavy enough to topple her over but she would have been shook off balance. Then it raised its scythe-shaped arm high in the air, broadcasting its next move a little carelessly.

"Watch out!" Daniel yelled, though he was pretty sure Lily knew all too well what it was about to do.

No sooner had Aaron made to bolt out of the alley then the previously silent person raised their head and let out an unnatural screech. Puffin startled and jumped from Aaron's grip. She didn't make it around the corner. Two creatures had appeared upon hearing the screech. One swung with a scythe-shaped arm and pierced something pink that was running by. With a sharp whimper and a thud, Puffin landed on the ground several feet away. They looked a bit like a snake or worm from the waist down but they had torsos shaped similar to a human. Two arms came to a point and curved sharply. Their oblong heads made a clicking sound as though communicating. From behind Aaron came a clicking response from the strange person. They continued to click back and forth for a time, seemingly oblivious to Aaron.

"Umph!" Was Lily's loud exclamation as the creature knocked into her. She stumbled back, trying to regain her footing. However, she was unfortunate enough to hit a rather slippery part of the tunnel, and fell with a hard thud. Her keys clanged against the floor, though she still held them tight. It was her only defense against this creature. As it raised it scythe-like arm above her, her eyes grew wide and her mouth hun open. Her face showed horror, gripped by fear into a sense of silence and stillness. She couldn't move a muscle as she saw the creature above her. It was so close to her, her heart seemed to be hammering through her chest. She would have screamed, if not paralyzed by fear.

Only Daniel's voice, yet again, broke her from her stupour. His cries rang through her mind, breaking the temporary hold this creature had over her. She scrambled back, splashing about in the small amount of water. She backed into the walll, cornered. Her palms pushed flat against the wall as she used it to help her rise, her knees knocking about unsteadily. Her breathing was shallow and frantic as she stared at the creature, then she remembered her keys. She slowly began swinging them once more, her speed gaining as adrenaline pumped through her. This time, should the creature come at her, the keys would be aimed high, towards its head and hopefully a vital area. At the same time as she swung, she slowly began to back along the wall, heading down the tunnel inch by excrutiating inch. "Daniel, Eli, we need to get away." She said in a low voice, hoping against all odds that this creature didn't understand her words.
