It IS his arm.
Hojo cut it off didn't he?
...
Or shot it and then cut it off so it didn't rot...
At least this was me and mokubahv's theory.
*would love to see something Strawberrie would write for this topic* smile

...a lot of people (including me) believe that Hojo replaced his arm with the claw when Hojo was injecting him with Chaos, Hellmasker, Galian Beast and that Frankenstein thing (I don't believe I remember his name).

StrawberrieIceCream Well, it's a gauntlet, and if you want proof, you can go to the Dirge of Cerberus site and watch the little clips that they have there. It shows Vincent's left PALM, and shows that those finger cover thingies are just... finger cover thingies, albeit sharp ones. He's wearing a leather glove (much like the one on his right hand) underneath the gauntlet, so what is underneath all that is the true mystery... It could be normal, or it could suffer from some deformation. Then again, it it was deformed, it might be noticable even the way it is, so the worst that there can be is his skin coloration on that arm. It could have changed to something else other than what the rest of his body looks like. In Dirge of Cerberus, he's seen using that arm as a weapon when he runs out of ammo for his gun, so I don't think that it's really that malformed. It just might be his melee weapon. To me in the pic...it looks too skinny to be his arm. It looks like a stub that then had the arm attatched to it.
But that's just me.
Maybe he got a mechanical normal arm like in Star Wars or something...like how Barret in AC changed his to a claw hand (weird that there's two characters with metal arms)...
I wouldn't want Vincent to get in a fight with me while he's pistol-less...my claws (just sharp fingernails...or large talons as I call them. lol ) alone wouldn't help. crying

Ah, about Vincent's arm seeming rather thin... Well, with consideration to the art style that he and the other characters are being portrayed in (for Dirge of Cerberus, which is somewhat stylized and makes parts of the characters seem rather skinny) and the fact that Vincent is a really, really skinny man, it is safe to assume that there's a good chance that he's got a real arm under there. I've been an avid fan of his for years, and through out these years, it hasn't gone under my eyes without notice that he's a FREAKIN TWIG. LIKE YOU PUNCH HIM IN THE ARM AND HE SNAPS SORT OF TWIG. He's worse than those anorexic super models who smoke cigarettes to stay thin. Well, almost. He just looks thin, and the color black has been known to make one appear more twiggy. I just personally doubt that his left arm is artificial. I honestly need to find a screen shot of his arm from the DoC website so that I can make a spiffin' diagram with it. Because I'm wierd like that.

My guess would be that its a robotic limb. His past is shrouded in mystery and it is entirely possible that he suffered an accident.
