I ran into some anti-Semitism on Gaia and I'm not even Jewish. Some guy(my age) was trying to get to know me over PMs and I wasn't frightened, so I said go ahead...ask me questions...He asked a couple of times if I was Jewish and I said I was not...no biggie there. I thought he might have been Jewish himself. We were talking about popular culture and world events and I said, "I don't support Hollywood, but I do support Israel," and he wrote a nasty flame note and put me on Ignore before I could return a carefully composed note explaining my beliefs. wow. The campus of Southern Vermont College has a bunch of intolerance flying around, not just toward Jews.
Race fights have broken out here with the white kids provoking the black students, but thankfully no violence against minority religions yet. There are no Muslims on campus (for good reason, they're collectively called "sand niggers" here) and I'm the only Jew, and I've had more than one death threat in my year and a week of attendance.

Miss Shaina Dis Domnu kingpinsqeezels If there is ANYTHING that pisses me off in this world, it is Skinhead f***ks who feel the effing need to post their garbage on Gaia for sake of argument, put downs, and psychotic rantings. These people have no clue what they are talking about, and I for one, only jestingly blame my German friends about this. I know they had nothing to do with it directly, and I know the German people really only wanted someone who could restore their country to it's former glory. Unfortunately they went to any lengths their dictator set, because they thought he knew what he was doing. Any sensible Jew would not blame a German person, unless they were part of the S.S. or German army during the war VOLUNTEERILY! But most of those maniacs are deceased now. I, for the most part, grit my teeth and bare it. I know more trouble would come from me kicking someones a** than if I just let their words sluff off. People who say things like,"Jews blame me blah blah boohoo" or "So what if some of your people died" or "You're going to burn in hell Jew", all those people know nothing of our religion, and therefore we should not give a flying eff what they say to us. Try hanging out in ED-P, where people like Pockybot claim there's an Israeli conspiracy to rule the world, every day. It's lots of fun. Oh my goodness. So lame. But, it reminds me. Rav, who has taught Jewish Philosophy and Talmud at various Universities, has also toured the country with Gefiltefish, his first stateside band, playing sold-out parking lots before and after Phish shows. He does not play klezmer, although he does make the odd Maimonidean joke. He thinks of himself as a Rock Star. He is actually really cool, and your post reminded me of this song. :] Rav Shmuel is the MAN. I had a beer with him at Jewlicious a few years ago and he is hysterical. That song was on my myspace for the longest time.

I live in a very jewish community, so i have not really encountered much anti semitism in person, i did however meet some ignorant people in Gaia, but i guess that's expected.
However, my brother who went to an american university met a good share of anti semitic people, and he always told them off... as would i if i were in his case.
what i never understood is how in a couple palestinian and jewish rallies, there are some chasidic jews siding with the palestinians that we should not be living in israel.. i never understood that.

throbs what i never understood is how in a couple palestinian and jewish rallies, there are some chasidic jews siding with the palestinians that we should not be living in israel.. i never understood that. It's important to note the differences between antisemitism and anti-zionism. One hates Jews, the other opposes the State of Israel. Antizionism can be based on several arguments. One of which states that we should not be there because the land rightfully belongs to the Palestinians; another states that Israel should not exist because the Third Temple hasn't been built, and it's not time for the Messianic age. Both arguments are pretty simple to understand, and neither involves hatred of Jews.

Please, everyone read this... people think I over react to this kind of stuff... but it isnt right for people to say mean things about other peoples religions.. Everybody, do not fuel the fire with insults and emotion. Drown it with facts in a polite and dignified manner when dealing with idiots like that. Put the fire out with water, not oil.
Also do not do the stupid thing of saying their is a Jewish race since their are Jews of all races, nationalities, backgrounds and so forth. And the priestly gene is found in people who not even Jewish since they have some ancestory. So that is not even usable.
Also doing things such as petitions is not a good idea either since that will bring things to court, and that will not be a good idea.
We need to play smart not stupid. We have to adapt and survive like we have always done.

Well, I'm Pagan, and although we never had the holocaust or anything, we DID have the Burning Times (NOT the witch trials. Around 600 A.D. - 1400 A.D. when Christians killed off Pagans (Celts, Nords, and the like) to "purify" the land. Killed almost all of us, in fact.) Plus, there ARE anti pagan groups (that www.godhatesfags.com website is one of them. They accuse Pagans as being f** enablers as well as Jews.). I sympathize with you, as I know what you have to deal with.
