"Because you actually study magic, Scholar." The pictomancer said with a friendly grin, nodding happily at his assessment. If there had been anything majorly out of whack that she had missed, Relm was certain Kaleb would have spotted it. Confidence in friends. "You should smile like that more often, Scholar. Makes you down-rigt attractive." Relm glanced at Riley, her eyes dancing as if wondering if she dared.
Of course she did. "Don't you think so?"

Kaleb's smile immediately vanished behind an embarrassed blush, and he muttered something under his breath as he reached for his half-finished chocolate milk. Attractive still wasn't a term he applied to himself easily, and he was just as doubtful and embarrassed this time as when Tseng had mentioned it the first time. He didn't glance up as he sipped at his drink, he couldn't bring himself to look at either of his friends while he blushed so badly.

"What? When he smiles?" He set down his drink and looked at Kaleb before looking at Relm. "I guess ... i mean i see it a lot, kinda, so i'm used ta it." He just thought Kaleb was attractive anyway so he couldn't really get better than he already was.
"Does it reallah matter?"

Shaking her head Relm closed her eyes. "No. It probably doesn't matter. Just something I noticed. As an artist, I tend to notice such things, is all."
Then she opened them again to look at Riley. "But it is good to know he smiled so often around you."

Kaleb sank a bit in his chair, and tried to think small thoughts so they wouldn't notice him and his blushing. Of all the conversations he might have expected to sit in on, one discussing his relative attractiveness certainly didn't make it onto his list, and although it might be logical for Relm to bring it up since she was a girl, having his partner agree even in a noncommittal way was a surprise.

"Everyone's attractive in their own way." He shrugged slightly and picked up his sandwich again. "Kaleb's cute, yer snarky .. I have that 'bad boy' thing goin." Taking another bite of his sandwich he grinned.
Kaleb probably had to be bright pink by now but he didn't want to look at him just incase he was.

But Relm was looking at everyone even as she laughed. "Snarky! I like that!" Oh there was so much more she was curious to learn about her friend & his partner... but if she pushed too much it would likely ruin her fun. "Usually I go for innocent & am labeled percocious, but snarky is cute." She chuckled softly into her teacup, breathing in the residual scents of her tea. Only a swallow left, but better saved for when she was not laughing. Tea choked on would be a waste.
But she grinned at Riley. "Yeah. Bad Boy definitely seems to fit you, in appearance. Oh, I'm sure you could be one too -and being a Turk... well. No question. But you're much more pleasant to be around than your fellows. At least those I've met." She glanced at the blushing Kaleb with an expression equivalent to that of a big sister to a younger brother. Which could be laughable considering their real ages. "I'm glad you two got partnered together."

"Eh, Tseng and Rufus aren't bad. Ya just gotta know how ta deal with'em." He defiantly though Reno was worse than the others. That could just be because he and Reno were too much alike for their own good.

Kaleb choked a bit on his chocolate milk, accidentally blowing bubbles in his drink through the straw with his first cough. Relm's comment about Riley's appearance reminded him of how clingy his partner could get when he was tired, how completely tame he was when he had his ears rubbed, and how easy it was to put him off guard. It was impossible for the little mage to agree with Relm's appraisal after being around Riley as much as he had.
"S-sorry," he stuttered once he finished coughing. He hadn't meant to interrupt the conversation.

"I suppose." Relm was getting a bit huffy, her injured pride at having art and magic insulted by the president of ShinRa never fully forgiven. "I'd rather not learn to ... " The pictomancer blinked multiple times at the problems the healer was having with his drink. "You okay, Scholar?"

"Y-yeah, I-I'm okay," Kaleb stammered, and coughed once more before continuing. "I-I'm sorry, I d-didn't mean to interrupt..." That had been really embarrassing, and the little mage was really starting to wish for a minute or two of peace to let his blush go away.

"Just cause Rufus wasn' impressed with yer magic right?" He'd heard the story from Reno or at least part of the story. He could see why Rufus wouldn't appreciate it. That kind of magic couldn't really help the blond any so it wasn't something that he'd be interested in.

Her concerned expression for her friend faded almost instantly at Riley's words. "Unimpressed I could have perhaps understood. Not the insult he gave while claiming more knowledge of both art & magic than I have. That was unacceptable. Especially when only seeing something that was for fun." Relm's green eyes were flashing. She no longer felt any but the tiniest trace of pain for her foolish crush other than frustration at herself for having been so caught up. Breathing deeply Relm forced herself to calm down. Even to smile. "No. Impressing Rufus ShinRa is no longer something I am interrested in doing, nor care if I've done or not. I've cut the strings on that little venture."
She said it with a genuine -if cold- smile; her thoughts wandering to a controlled painted marionette with its magical strings severed. Yes... only the insult remained -and only when she was reminded of it. For Relm that was a very big step.

Kaleb sank down a bit in his seat and poked at his soup, sensing the change in mood across the table. This was the kind of thing he had been glad to avoid up until that point, he knew it was a bitter topic for the artist, and he never liked dragging out those kinds of emotions.

He took another bite of his sandwich and shrugged. "Tha's just Rufus. I mean ya kinda gotta take what tha guys says with a grain of salt. How'da'ya think Reno's kept his job this long?"
With the way the other red-head back talked their boss is was amazing he wasn't six feet under already. Though he was really good at his job so that almost made up for it.
