Mars Focks Rain FyoraSilverwolf That's your definition. Everything is relative. And yes, I was bothered by the first post, in and of itself, now I'm just bothered by having to defend myself, and really don't want this to become another abortion thread. Lips of an Angel sounds like an abortion!!! ..okay, that was bad. Anyways. Can abortions even have sounds?Personally, I think what's good or whatever is a matter of opinion. Obviously they were better than most people in order to get a record deal. I think the Killers are good. I think the Beach Boys are good. Good is a matter of opinion, kids. What someone else thinks is good may be crap to someone else. I personally hate AC/DC, and prefer the Paul McCartney Live and Let Die. Lips of an Angel isn't their best, in my opinion, it's just the one somebody picked. I prefer "Better Than Me" anyway.

Mars Focks Rain Personally, I think what's good or whatever is a matter of opinion. Not necessarily true. If the "good" you're speaking of is in terms of actual talent. You dislike AC/DC, but can you honestly listen to the guitar work of Angus Young, especially in conjunction with his showmanship on stage and say that his not a good/talented guitarist? I am not a particularly huge fan of Jimi Hendrix, but I can tell you straight off that he is a God on the guitar. A person that does not like Queen can still say that they are a good band based on the technical difficulty of many of their songs. I don't listen to Jaco Pastorius but I know that he is a great bassist. I'm not the biggest fan of The Beatles, but I will never deny the fact that they were truly a great group and were one of the most influential acts of all time. There's a big difference between liking a band and admitting that they are good/talented. wink Fyora And yes, I was bothered by the first post, in and of itself, now I'm just bothered by having to defend myself If it does not bother you, you should not feel compelled to defend yourself. c** on Feel the Noize, Quiet Riot

FyoraSilverwolf Ahem, I never said they were good, or talented. I said I liked them. I don't recall pointing you out specifically on my previous statements on the difference between someone liking a band, and them being talented. However, one could take this statement made by you earlier and turn it around: Fyora Just because you don't like a band, doesn't mean they're bad. Just because you do like a band doesn't mean they're good. You Lied, Green Day

Christina Agulera's (sp?) voice is amazing. So is Mary J. Blige. I don't listen to any of them, but I think they're talented. But how are you going to listen to them and say they're not talented in their own right? How could millions of people listen to a band and say that they don't think they're talented? Just because YOU don't like them doesn't mean they're not talented...

But you're sitting here poking at me and my taste in music, and debating with me like I completely disagree with you, when, in reality, none of what you say matters, because I don't know if they're good or not, nor do I care. All I care about is that I like them, and I'm going to keep liking them.

I can't stand Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera, but their vocal talents are indeed astounding. They fact that they were basically pop machines built by the producers looking for the next big thing is a big downer for them. But on a technical aspect, solely in regards to their vocal capabilities, they are indeed good. Hinder, as a band may be more talented than your average joe. In comparison to historically successful bands, they are on the extreme low end of the spectrum, musically. They have much the same sound as scores of other bands that are popular right now, rather basic guitar work, sub par vocals, etc. And obviously, from the interview they've conducted, and their own site, they aren't exactly desirable in a personal aspect either. They're stuck up pricks. They may be popular right now, that does not denote talent. The Mule, Deep Purple

Anybody can judge the quality of a certain band by looking at the band from a neutral standpoint. Most people however, do not.

Mars Focks Rain But who are we to debate over what's talented or not? One person can't determine if someone's talented or not. We're not the ones to say that. So if someone wants to say that they're talented, let them. Cause it's all a matter of opinion. When it gets down into the very nitty gritty (such as Hendrix vs. Clapton) it may come down to a matter of opinion, on two very evenly matched musical artists. More often than not, because of varying styles, a true conclusion may never be found on such an issue due to differing techniques. For instance, many contend that Clapton played more technically difficult riffs, but Hendrix taught himself to play left-handed on a right handed guitar, thus automatically giving him unmatchable style. However, with something very basic such as the hum-drum riffs of hinder, it is not a stretch for a layman such as myself to point out their lack of real talent. They rely on very base chords, counts and vocals. It is not technically difficult in the least, thusly if they actually do contain any sort of outstanding talent whatsoever, it has yet to be seen and must be neglected for the fact that it's anyone's guess as to it's actual existence. We go with what we know. The River is Wide, The Grass Roots

So some people may find something else talented and something else untalented.. @Hombre: Some people think that Hinder IS talented, though. Just because you don't think they are doesn't mean they aren't, just as much as it doesn't mean that they are. So honestly, as long as they have the mechanics of the music down, it's all a matter of taste.
