The man gave the audio couple a warm smile, sadness lingering in his eyes. Relm knew that look: she had seen Trelweny give it often enough. Her eyes grew soft as she smiled gently at him.
"Warm drinks we have aplenty. What would be your preference? I've a few different types of bean for coffees espressos & the like, and oodles of teas too. I think I've even some cocoa, if you prefer hot chocolate."
Relm eyed the items as the man indicated them. "Can you make black Russian tea?" She asked hopefully.
The man's smile broadened. "Da! Of course! You could say it was a specialty." Only then did Relm notice the markings of Russian letters scattered throughout the store. She blushed at having taken them at first glance for pretty designs & nothing more.
"I'd like one of those. With lemon please. And two sugars. Brown, if you have them. The man grinned even more, light finally starting to touch his eyes. Relm sniffed deeply of the air. "And is that fresh baked bread? I wouldn't mind some of that too."
With a joyous exclamation in Russian the man clapped his hands. "Of Course! And what would you like, tovarish?" He asked of Keme.

Keme almost didn't hear him addressing him, but he blinks in confusion over the name. But once he figures the shop owner is talking to him, he smiles warmly and nods, "I'll have an espresso and also some of that wonderful smelling bread as well!" he exclaims, unzipping his jacket to pull out his wallet to make sure to pay.

But the man was already setting to work on the espresso & tea to get them ready. Only once they were set & he had given a nod of his head to having done it right did he turn around to tally their order on a old, gold colored classic register. He punched the old buttons lovingly, eyes lifting to watch the flags for the prices pop up in the cash register's glass window. When the total showed for Keme to see, the man smiled & accepted the payment.
Relm watched with detatched fascination, her hand letting go of Keme's almost automatically so that he could use both hands to handle his wallet. Her nearer hand went to rest on the waistband of Keme's pants casually. She seemed quite lost in thought, as her eyes gently followed the aged shopowner.

Keme was also fascinated by the cash register, only having seen anything like it on tv. He hands over the money, but seems to be inspecting it, "That is amazing, I've never seen anything like!! Only ones I have ever seen are the electric ones!!" he says, his tail wagging about as he smiles.

The old man beamed, one hand lightly stroking the register like one might pet a dog. "Da. They don't make them like this anymore. My Wassilissa kept at me to modernize it..." his voice trailed off softly, a lost look coming to his gray eyes. "But it has always served us well."
Relm choked softly at the tone of his voice & her eyes teared with compassion. Suddenly she snuggled into Keme's side, needing the warmth of his presence.

Keme wasn't sure who the man was refering too, but they sounded important to him. He looks down at Relm when suddenly hugs herself to his side and he wraps an arm around her, kissing her forehead lovingly.

Relm smiled softly at the kiss, snuggling underneath Keme's arm. It was not until the man turned around to check on the progress of their drinks though that she could find her voice. She almost did not want to know, but she had to ask. "Wassilissa... she is....?"
He paused, a long sigh. "My wife. For 64 years. We married young in the mother country, before moving here." He turned to smile at them, fresh tears brimming in his eyes. "Please. Sit. I will bring the drinks when they are ready. The bread too."

Keme's eyes go wide in wonder when the man said he was married for 64 years. He looked down at Relm and began to wonder.....Shaking his head a little, he smiles and nods, leading Relm to a nearby table. He pulls out her chair for her to sit down.

She follows quietly, giving Keme a sweet smile for his chivalrous action as she accepts the seat -even going so far as to let him push her in. A passing thought brought a mild fret, hoping she had not been too clingy, causing Keme to chose the table with chairs over the ones with booths against the wall. Quickly Relm pushed that aside as foolishness -this table was simply closer, that was all.

Once he is sure Relm is situated in her seat, he goes to the seat across from her and sits down. He sets his forearm on the table and looks about again, "I am glad this place was open today, but I am a little curious on why he is open on Christmas.." he says softly.

A lone tear slips from Relm's eye. "No reason not to, I suppose." She smiles lovingly at Keme, her thoughts shared by memories of a summer day when memories & feelings that were not hers surged through her. The pictomancer knew the pain in the man's eyes... and she was certain his Wassilissa was no longer with him.

Keme blinks at the sudden tears falling down her face and he almost panics, "Relm, are you ok? Did I say something wrong, do something wrong?" he asks, reaching over to take her hands into his.

Gratefully she squeezed Keme's hands & smiled at him with eyes full of love. "I'm okay, Hummer. Really I am it's just..."
She glanced at the human man, going about his work. "I sympathize with him. I felt Trelweny's loss... how hard it is to go on without the one you love... and I see the same look in his eyes."

Keme blinks and then feels his own sadness welling up, having seen that type of pain whenever Moochi started talking about her grandparents. "Is that why he is open on Christmas?" he whispers softly.

Bringing their hands to her lips she kissed Keme's fingers softly. "I don't know... but I think so." She leaned forward, putting their hands to her cheek letting her eyes close. "I-I... I don't know what I'd do if I lost you, Keme. I suspect I'd either lose myself in my art -or never pick up my brush again."
