Dear Diary

Well, it seems to have finally happened. I think Elle's trying to move out and stay moved out. I didn't even notice it was happening till she turned up in a huff, asking me why all her mail wasn't at her house in the field!

Well, Elle, I can't read your mind.

And the field she's picked is filled with blackberries. So it didn't look like it was habitated. I was going to clear it for farming actully but I think she could use it well so she can keep it.

Her house isn't even much of a house to be honest. She is trying to build a house by herself and I can't say it's very sucessful. I won't tell her... but some of her 'aunts' and 'uncles' have been visiting while she's not home to fix it up a bit. Nothing obvious. Just sealing up the walls, or the roof, or fixing the floor so it won't leak during winter. It'll be freezing out there!

And with no electrisity either so she still needs to borrow my fridge for her blood. I don't mind. She can keep coming here for it and her computer and maybe she won't vanish that way.

Also I'm relieved summer is over. I kept seeing Elle with major sunburn. She tells me she wears sunscreen and covers up but she's still getting burnt. I never thought I'd be glad for my daughter to spend time in the dark but there you go... I am glad. Very glad.

We aren't very close. I wonder what is happening in her life? She's getting lots of letters and I'm temtped to read them... but maybe she'll tell me one day. She's also been carting around and reading lots of books on magic. I feel a bit more worried about that, she's not trained. Untrained person, playing with magic... but who do you ask about that sort of thing?

So other than all of that, not much else to say about Elle.

Aquene's grown up into a child now and ...well, I thought things would change but she's still just as quiet, just as curious, just as strange. A nice strange now and she smiles in a way that makes you feel reassured that she's not unhappy or anything... she is a bit like Elle was. But not quite. They don't even seem to get along that much.

Dear Diary

What a weird few weeks. UFOs... so of course I ran into then more than once during my night walks. It was happening so frequently that I thought I should get photos so I set up a camera in a tree (An idea from Spiderman) and ...well, look at the photo I put in before!

That was the third and last time it scanned me, it scanned me twice before that. It didn't do anything to me. I think.

But I told Luna via text message and we've been spending the past week trying to find one. We saw one once! There was a neighbourhood party called 'Your mum is an alien' and ...well, a UFO showed up and said 'I'm your mum'.

And a few of us GMFC kids went out last night again but we ended up hanging around instead. Tiegan's a bloody nut, she kept scaring the smaller kids with all of her talk of killing aliens and all of that. And she chased poor Jo around, THEN proceeded to tell some younger kid about how if he touched Jo he'd loose limbs.

Mum's acting weird too. Wearing black. Telling me she's a saleswoman for Lawls soft drink?!

He rang in her veins, in her blood, in her head, in her veins, in her heart, in her mouth, it was all over and all through and all in her. It drove Elle nuts. She paced up and down, up and down, up and down, the entire six large paces from wall to wall in her tiny shack, feeling like she was caged. Caged by no one else but herself. By her mother. Her mother caged her the moment she decided to have her.

The door was locked now. She could barely remember when she'd returned home panting and covered in some drunkard's blood, everything in her racing as if she'd had a drug, hands fumbling to lock her own shack door then push the key outside where she couldn't get it. Not for her protection, but not for others either. It was to ...well, what WAS it about?!

Damn it all, she was... she was hungry. And not hungry like she used to be. This was consuming her. She wasn't hungry, she was at the mercy of Hunger itself, devoured by Hunger, caught and swept away with it. The dry blood staining her shirt and hands reeked of hunger. Elle tore her clothes off with shaking hands, throwing them into the fire.

Damn her curiosity! Why couldn't she just have said goodbye and left him on the road, and returned home, and had her nightly meal.

She needed her meal.

Elle wrenched the fridge door open with such strength that she broke it clean off. She didn't care. She needed to satisfy it. Bags of blood all lined up neatly met her and she grabbed at the nearest. Forget labels and additions to blood, blood was blood. Elle tore at the bag with her teeth, freezing cold blood spilling over her lips, tongue, mouth, front, dribbling down to stain her bare chest and already blood covered hands.

It tasted terrible. Worse than terrible. She felt like she'd eaten something for the first time since she was a child and the idea of returning to dust... Ellette screamed in frustration at it, throwing the half empty bag at the fire, blood splattering across the floor, the furniture, the books, everything between the fridge and the fire... on the other side of the room.

Elle picked up a second bag, then a third, then a forth, till each and every bag's contents were splattered across the floor and the plastic bags melting near the fire and the room looking rather like a slaughterhouse. Over a hundred dollars worth of blood, an entire bar fridge's worth, and she couldn't drink any of it. Not anymore. With trembling hands she tried to clutch to a bookshelf for support. Elle stared at the room through glazed eyes. Maybe she didn't care anymore. Maybe she needed to eat now. Maybe she'd had enough of being ELF when she wasn't ELF and she wasn't even remotely ELF. Ears didn't make you elf! And she wasn't much elf anyway, her mother wasn't even a full elf.

The locked door though, it was locked and she couldn't get out. Elle tried it for half an hour, tugging at it, banging her fists till they were bloody and bruised, battering it with the fridge door, trying to get that key she could see but was too far for anything to reach it. She couldn't get out. It was going to consume her and she was going to...well, she didn't know, but she didn't care, she needed to get OUT.

Elle collapsed onto the floor, feeling faint and desperate, heart pounding with her breathing coming in fast haggard gasps. Her head felt faint now and everything span, everything span, she couldn't eat and she had to eat and it couldn't come without finding someone to feed on. She needed to taste that warmth, feel that pulse in her mouth, that ...she needed it. Logic was completely out of the question.

But what was she thinking, she had a warm blooded creature right there, she had blood, she had as much of it as she could stand. She had herself. She ...why hadn't she thought of it? Elle's teeth seemed to find her arm on their own account, and she was barely aware of the pain of her clumsy bite, the pain in her arm as she created several ugly gashes in it, all she cared about was the blood in her mouth, in her mind, in her body, she was feeding Hunger and it would satisfy it.

The teenager curled up on the ground in the mess she'd created with her arm in her mouth, shaking and trembling, eyes shut and her own blood dribbling down her mouth to join the pool beneath her. And it was there she finally lost conscious.

Neith-Kia
The first sensation Elle felt was cold. She was freezing and soaking wet. Her legs and hands hurt but not as much as her arm did. And her body was shaking. Not trembling, shaking. Elle opened an eye and stared blankly at the door in front of her. Sunlight covered everything outside and it hurt her eyes.

"Uurrrgh." Elle climbed to her hands and knees with a low groan, using a chair for support, and groggily tugged on a top that she'd folded neatly on the table. She could see the mess around her but she ignored it, focusing on the soft bed in the corner. Bed. She wanted more sleep, she hurt.

Luna Edae
Luna wasn't exactly certain what drew her to Elle's home that morning, but whatever it was, it was urgent. Urgent enough for Jokeph to feel as if every hair on his body were standing on end.

But what a way to test to see if her new blocking abilities worked. Luna's mind was already shielding itself as she drew near.

Door. Door. Right, door. Open, knock, open?

No... this wasn't a time for pleasantries. Luna's hands flew to the door and gave the knob a hearty twist--

-- and stopped short.

Damn! Locked!

Twist. Twist twist twist twisttwisttwisttwisttwisttwist...

Panic surged through Luna's veins as she whirled helplessly toward Jokeph, who simply nodded in return.

It was time to get the hell out of Dodge.

Luna stepped to the side just in time to avoid a flash of blue, red, and gold hurtling toward the door at top speed.

Kee-RACK!

There wasn't much of a door left once Jokeph's shoulder was done with it, but there were plenty of wood shards flying into and out of the shack.

And then, Jokeph did something Luna didn't expect. He froze in horror.

Ellette E
Elle had managed to drift back into a near-sleep, peaceful, full of nothingness and no dreams and with only a slight awareness of the room around her. It was like floating in black. She clung to a pillow and it was almost like she felt like she was back with...

She shot up in shock when a loud noise startled her out of the half-sleep. Elle clung to her pillow and her blanket to her chin, staring dumbly at Jokeph, still ignoring the mess she'd created as if it just didn't exist.

"...there is a key?" Was Elle's feeble and confused greeting.

Luna Edae
Jo?! Jo, what is it?! Perhaps the shield worked a little TOO well. Letting her projections out, but nothing in. But perhaps that was the way it should've been.

Jokeph's eyes darted nervously from the mess in the room, to Elle, and then back to Luna. And when Luna stepped forward to see, he resolutely reached out to stop her.

"KYA!" Luna shrieked, surprised by a very firm and a quite-uninterested-in-her-chest hand precisely there. "Doh!" JO!

Jokeph wasn't budging.

"NnnnNNNN! Ehhhrlll!" Let me through! Elle! ELLE!

Ellette E
"...what's wrong?" Elle stared at Jokeph, still clinging to her blanket as she climbed out of her bed and wrapping it around herself. She felt so cold. But she stared blankly at the door only, not wanting to let her mind connect the dots.

Was Luna nearby? She almost felt like she'd heard her but it was like Luna was speaking through a pillow. A mind pillow...?! "Is Luna somewhere near?"

Luna Edae
"JO!!!!!" Luna finally shouted angrily, desperation somehow making that one word manageable. She'd heard Elle in there, and knowing she wasn't dead, she wanted in. And she wanted in NOW.

Jokeph bit his lip, slowly coming to realize that if anyone was going to be able to help Elle... it was Mistress. And as much as it pained him...

He slowly lowered his hand and braced for what was to come next.

Luna ducked under his arm, wholly unprepared for the scene in front of her. But Jokeph was prepared for Luna. When she screamed, he quickly swallowed the bile he felt rising in his throat at the prospect and grabbed her, whirling her around into an awkward embrace while struggling to keep his skin from crawling.

Ellette E
It was really strange how they were acting, she thought, as if they saw a ghost. Or a UFO. But wait, they'd already seen a UFO. It said it was Luna's mum.

Mum. Mother. Blood, everywhere. Last night.

Elle's legs gave way under her and she fell onto the chair, going pale. She'd bitten someone. And she'd bitten herself. Elle held up her own arm and gazed at the ugly mess she'd created. She was hungry again too, she hadn't fixed the problem... she'd only delayed it. It didn't consume her again. But she could still feel the taste of that man and it made her mouth water. Elle felt so ashamed and guilty. She shut her eyes and kept them shut... maybe they'd be gone when she opened them and she could go back to sleep.

"...Um."

Luna Edae
When Luna's mind had adjusted itself to the scene, she allowed herself to push away from Jokeph, swallowing hard.

Elle? Elle, are you all right?

Ellette E
"I'm fine." Elle lied to Luna, perhaps for the first time, though she felt far from fine. She had hunger and she had guilt and shame... but the worst part was that she felt desire for it to happen again. It was there, and it was ...no, it wasn't. She only felt shame and guilt. And sore.

"Just a bit sore."

Luna Edae
Luna's eyes narrowed. Though she said and projected nothing, the expression on her face was clear.

She was calling bullshit.

Ellette E
"I don't know how I am. I ...don't understand it." She rubbed her eyes, and tugged the blanket around her tighter as if it was going to protect her, "Can we go outside?"

Now that she couldn't block it anymore, it was all she could see, red everywhere. Dark red, some of it dry but some of it still in dark red shiny puddles. And it covered everything. It made Elle feel strange but how was she supposed to tell Luna what that felt like?!

Luna Edae
Luna's body seemed to move of its own accord as she took a mechanical step forward. And then another. And then another. And then, she was crossing the room and kneeling on the bloody floor, gathering Elle in her arms.

"Sssssh. Sssssssssssssh."

Ellette E
Elle clung to Luna for a few minutes, starting to shake again, till she became aware of Luna... and Luna's skin. And how it was right there, right ... Elle pushed Luna away as gently as she could. She didn't have any desire to bite Luna but still risking it made her feel bad.

"I don't know... what ...it's hard to explain. I didn't mean to do it."

Luna Edae
It's okay, Luna projected, swallowing her own apprehension. She snuck a glance at Jokeph, nodding faintly. It was all right. She knew what Elle needed. It would be all right.

Go ahead. If it'll help. You're shaking.

Ellette E
"I fed. See?" Elle raised her arm, then dropped it again to her side. She didn't feel like she'd fed... and really, she hadn't, it was just taking it out and putting it back again. She didn't want to hurt Luna either, and she knew it hurt, she'd tried it. "I can't hurt you."

Luna Edae
Luna shook her head slowly, brushing her hair to one side. No. You're shaking. You're cold. A long pause as she drew in a long, shaky breath. I... I can take it. It's... worth it. Just... don't take too much. Just... a pint.

Ellette E
"I don't know how to measure it." Elle tried a shaky smile. But her eyes had seen the neck and the Hunger was back. It'd just taken what, a neck and the presense of someone close, and it'd come back? Already? And it was there taunting her as it tried to get her to accept it and to stop fighting it. She could fight it.

Elle didn't think past that, she'd drifted close to Luna as she'd thought frantically, breathing on that neck's sensitive skin, already wrapping arms around Luna and biting.

Luna Edae
Luna inhaled sharply, eyes squeezing shut as she instinctively tensed, fingers gripping the the blanket as tightly as they could hold on.

Ellette E
Elle's arms tightened, eyes shut, mind going blank and shut on everything. She barely even understood that it was Luna right now, the only thing she could be aware of was teh warmth spreading through her again, the Hunger purring. Why was Hunger purring?

And how much had she taken? She'd lost track.

Luna Edae
Luna could feel her own mind growing blank as her eyelids relaxed, and then her fingertips, and then her hands, and then her arms, and then her shoulders, and then... she felt as if she'd fallen into water.

Maybe... they only called it lightheadedness because body density made it so that a head WAS light under water, but otherwise...

Deeper, deeper, and deeper still, she sank until she was only vaguely aware of her surroundings. She felt Elle's fangs, but not the pain. She could hear Jokeph's footsteps, but not that they were getting closer... or that he was running.

And suddenly, everything went white. Not the gentle, soothing whiteness of a blank mind, but a violent white. Angry and blinding, like a bolt of lightning, and moving away from her just as fast. And as fast as that bolt of lightning struck, it was gone, and Luna was awake again. Jokeph had stumbled. Her neck burned. And her head ached terribly. And her body was fighting for its life. Her heart was pounding, adrenaline surged through her veins, and her eyes were wide open.

Ellette E
Whatever that was it had hurt, and she'd jerked back instinctably from whatever it was creating it. Elle's head throbbed and she stared dazed at nothing for a few seconds. Then she remembered. Luna!

"Luna, what ...I'm sorry! I don't know what's happening with me." Elle would have reached for Luna but she was staring at the mark she'd left. It was bloody, and it wasn't that she hungred for it... she wasn't being bugged by Hunger now... it was that it was Luna and she was hurt. "....maybe you should go and leave me and ...I don't know."

Luna Edae
"Nnnnnnngh." Luna seemed to fold up on herself like a rag doll as her hands weakly moved upwards to massage her temples.

How long feed fullness... feeling being? Her thoughts were jumbled, but, for the moment, she was still conscious.

Ellette E
"I don't know." Energy was seeping back into her body and her mind, bringing more and more strength with it. But it was Luna's strength that was spreading into Elle and she felt awful. She wished she had something for Luna to eat, they did that with diabetics, they fed them sugery things. "Are you all right?"

Luna Edae
Gimme five minutes.

Whump.

Ellette E
"Luna? Luna...!" Elle grabbed Luna and picked her up. At least one thing in this room wasn't covered with blood. But Elle looked at Jokeph to make sure he didn't mind as well... and that he was all right.

"Should I... I could put her on the bed and...I don't know. Clean up. I guess?" She was so uncertian of what to do. Elle almost wanted him to tell her what to do. He was an 'adult' or looked like one? She didn't feel like an adult. She felt like a kid. It wasn't a nice feeling either, she never liked not knowing things

Luna Edae
Jokeph's face remained eerily blank, but his stance plainly stated that he was Not Pleasedâ„¢. Even if Elle couldn't understand him, he signed anyway.

Give her to me.

To emphasize the order, he moved forward to collect Luna.

Ellette E
"Oh, you want her?" She just felt worse at his ...well, his attitude. And she'd thought that wasn't possible! "Um, okay."

Not that she blamed him if he was angry. He had every right to be. He was like Luna's unofficial boyfriend/husband/brother/father/every other close male relationship, all rolled into one.

Very carefully she let him take Luna. A shudder went down Elle's back at the sight of Luna all limp as if she'd lost all her bones. It was a horrible feeling that made Elle's skin crawl. She didn't like how Luna felt, what she'd done to Luna.

Luna Edae
With a sigh, Jokeph stretched Luna out on his lap, tapping her cheek with his left hand until her eyelids began to flutter.

"...Nnn," she eventually muttered, batting Jokeph's hand away but not opening her eyes. Elle okay?

Ellette E
Elle sat down nearby, watching anxiously, grabbing at some random piece of paper to shred it to pieces as she did. She felt a huge rush of relief with Luna returning to conciousness. "Are you okay?"

Luna Edae
Gotta headache.

Ellette E
"I'm sorry. Can I...can I do something?" Elle shreaded the paper more till it resembled confetti.

Luna Edae
Elle's all right?

Ellette E
"Forget Elle, is Luna all right?" Elle would have poked Luna, but she was a little freaked out by the whole 'faint!' thing. "Should I go get something sugery from Mum's house?"

Luna Edae
Forget LUNA, is ELLE okay?

Ellette E
"No forget ELLE, how is LUNA?"

Ellette E
"I'm sorry Luna, I just don't ...I never did it before. Well, I did, but it was different last night." Elle glanced at Jokeph nervously before shifting over to kiss Luna's forehead.

Luna Edae
Luna smiled weakly, leaning against Jokeph for support. You needed it. It's okay. I'll be fine.

Ellette E
"Yea. But... urgh." She sat back down, diverting eyes from the mess she'd caused, again uncomfortable. Elle wished Luna hadn't seen it. "I don't know what's coming over me. I could control it before and then last night I met some vampire man and... I was curious! I thought I could control it still."

Luna Edae
Luna shook her head, eyes fluttering closed for an instant. Maybe now you can think about it.

Ellette E
"I'm not sure if I want to." Elle rubbed at her temples, awareness of her headache coming back as her worry for Luna ebbed away. "Guess I don't have much choice."

She stood up and started to pick up the books that fallen off the shelf, pushing them back into piles, not sure what else to do for Luna. It made Elle want to do something.

And then all the lights went out. Elle was already fumbling for a flashlight before the second or two it took for her to realize that it wasn't night and those weren't lights that went out. "...wait, isn't it daytime?"

Luna Edae
Luna's head rolled to the side and she stared at the door through bleary eyes. Someone's coming.

Before she could elaborate, however, a familiar face had appeared. Vilden Keth, Luna Keth's uncle. Luna could've easily passed for his daughter... or even his sister, considering ho young he looked. But his normally cheerful face was grim.

"Luna? Lu--"

Oh, he did NOT need this right now.

"You. Girl." He wasn't one for pleasantries for the moment as he addressed Elle-- a stark contrast from his normal self. "What can I do to speed things along? I need Luna."

Ellette E
Elle didn't feel all too comfortable about the lack of light, even if sunlight did bother her sometimes, and she was already flipping on a light and searching for the matches for her lanterns.

She stared at the man who'd come in. He looked like Luna which gave her imediant reason to trust him but... what?!

"Um... what's wrong? And what's happening out there?"

Luna Edae
"Gimme a few minutes," Vilden answered, rushing to Luna's side and taking her from Jokeph without so much as a protest from the larger man. "Name's Vilden Keth. I'm June's older brother. Lu's uncle." With that, he gently tapped Luna's forehead. "Hey. You okay? I'm going to need you to do something for me."

"Nnnn...?" Luna mumbled, eyes fluttering open again.

"I know you're weak. I don't know what happened, but I can guess. But we can fix you up, okay? That's not important now. We're going to need you, though. I'm gonna have to force a decision, Luna. I know Lil asked you if you wanted to think about the Agents. But we're going to need to take you now."

"Nnn...."

"Hey. You." Vilden tilted his head back to Elle. "Look. I'll tell you what. You know those UFOs you've been watching? They're the cause of the darkness, okay? And we need Luna to help us. Now, I'm going to need you to help me a bit. Where's the nearest body of water?"

Ellette E
"Oh, nice to meet you." She watched him with Luna. He was an adult, even if Jokeph wasn't, and Elle felt somewhat better now that someone was there to think.

"The UFOs? But they didn't... they were harmless to me?! The nearest water is the water tank outside." She stared out of the door again at the sky as if she'd see a UFO again. It made sense that it was one. And it gave her something else to think about.

Luna Edae
"That's gonna have to do." Vilden effortlessly hoisted Luna up onto his shoulders, keeping her steady with one arm. "Luna? Luna, sweetheart, can you understand what's going on?"

Sweetheart. Yyyyeah, things were bad.

"Uhhuh," Luna mumbled.

"Can you see how many fingers I'm holding up?"

"Uhhuh."

"How many?"

"Doo."

"All right." Vilden heaved a sigh of relief. "Luna, you do have a choice in this. Will you or will you not help us?"

"Arbess Add?"

"Yes, Luna, the darkness is bad. These might be bad aliens, and we're going to need everyone we've got if they're a threat. This is going to be a permanant help, though. So don't just say yes and not mean it."

"Nuh! Ay'gann bell!"

"Are you SURE?"

"Uhhuh."

Vilden finally smiled, his eyes glowing faintly. "Ma'am?" Finally, his old demeanor was returning. "Could you lead us?"

Ellette E
"Um. Yea. Of course." Elle ducked out the door, or what was left of it, leaving the flashlight on for those behind her. Her light sensitive eyes could easily make out details in the darkness without the flashlight but she was keeping on for the other two.

The tank had been put up about fifteen metres away from the shack and the tents. Elle lead them to it and stood there with the light on the tank. "Now what?"

Luna Edae
Vilden's eyes continued to glow brighter and brighter, until there was nothing left to be seen but white in their place. His ears had already grown longer and more pointed... almost aquatic in nature. and there was a faint blue-white aura around him that illuminated the black markings appearing on his face.

"We will need the water." When he spoke this time, there was the distinct sound of another voice underneath his own, resonating with an eerie harmony. With that, he reached up and poked a hole in the tank as if it were made of soft cheese rather than metal.

"ACKBHRRRBLLL!" Luna protested, jolted awake by the sudden trickle of water splattering on the top of her head.

"We are calling her."

Huh? Luna blinked. Calling who?

"One of Us." As he spoke, a faint light fell over the tank, as if something very bright had fallen inside. And before Luna could react, the water itself became that light.

And then, Luna herself began to change.

Ellette E
First thought was '...damn, now I have to fix the bloody tank.' Then it was 'wait, what the hell?!'

What was he doing? She had more questions for Luna than Luna probably had for her by now. He looked strange, he needed water, what the hell was with his voice anyway, who was her and what...

What the hell was happening to Luna?!

"Now what's going on?" And Elle didn't mean the UFOs this time.

Luna Edae
"It's okay, Elle," Luna answered, her voice with the same harmony to it. "We are one of them now. We're the good guys."

Ellette E
Well, at least she didn't sound as dazed and half out of it?

"One of who? I know you're the good guys, nothing could convince me otherwise, but that doesn't change that I don't understand what's going on now." Elle felt ignorant again, a feeling she'd always hated, and she hated that suddenly she was facing something totally forigen to her. "Luna... and what happened to your voice?"

Luna Edae
"Oh, that's just me! Liechi! Nice to meet you! I'm really excited to be here and I didn't think I'd ever be picked to get to--"

"AHEM," Vilden answered sharply. "We do not dominate our hosts."

"Oh oh oh sorry sorry that doesn't count, does it? Tell me it doesn't count--"

Vilden cleared his throat again, and suddenly, he and Luna both stopped glowing. "...How do you feel, Lu?"

...Weird.

"Look, I gotta talk to your mom for a bit. Just... don't go anywhere, okay?" He gently set Luna down on the moist ground before walking away. "And if she takes over like that again, remind her that her superiors are keeping an eye on her?" A mutter. "Oy, Lil's gonna kill me..."

When he was finally out of earshot, Luna turned back to Elle, obviously just as confused as she was. ...You... okay?

Ellette E
"...Liechi?"

But she wasn't Liechi, even if she looked different, she was Luna. Elle's girlfriend.

This was just getting weird.

Elle watched the man wander away and stared some more at Luna. "Yea, of course I am. Are you okay? You seem better?"

Luna Edae
Dotdotdot.

...I'll explain while I help clean up, okay?

Ellette E
"Okay." It wasn't so much that Elle wanted Luna to clean up with her, more that she wanted to hear this. But just in case she added, "You don't have to clean though."

Elle handed Luna the flashlight, she didn't need it, and led the way back to the shack through the grass. It had been somewhat sunny earlier and some of the grass still held the warmth. It felt funny against Elle's bare feet.

Luna Edae
I want to, Luna argued, taking the flashlight. Her hands were still shaky and she was still weak, but at least she could walk (which was surprising in itself.)

Unfortunately, her explanations wouldn't be without their interjections. You see... there is this race of aliens [us!] that created our world... and another. [Here!] They were hoping to recreate their evolution [From dolphins!], but we humans appeared as a dominant species instead. [Cool, isn't it?] On Neilan, they made contact ['Cause they were pretty advanced already!] some two thousand years ago in response a few rogues of their species. [Baddies!]

Luna paused to grimace at the second voice interjecting commentary into her explanation.

Working with the Neilani military, they agreed to send their consciousnesses to strong Neilani. And they formed the Agents. And these Agents protect Neilan by ensuring our "cousins" here on Gaia are protected from those rogues. And, in time, it spread to encompass... a lot of threats, really.

...And Commander Haladet wanted me to be one. I was considering it, but this is... kind of an emergency, so... I got drafted. And now I've got this... apparently this is a newbie God[dess!] who doesn't know proper mind etiquett--Get out of there!

Ellette E
As serious as this was, there was something about the explanation that made Elle smile weakly. Whoever this was in Luna's mind/head/body, it was someone who had quite a bit of spirit. And sounded young too. Just another reason, as if she didn't have a million and one already, to not let Luna offer herself again.

"I guess that makes lots of sense. Yea, okay. But whatever's happening up there is enough to start drafting?" Elle tugged at the broken door till it fell off competely and tossed it to one side. It would make good burning material.

Luna Edae
Luna sighed. I guess. I still think Commander Haladet was just looking for a reason. [Hey, at least they're going to let us stay here! This is so neat!]

Ellette E
Elle, though she was suddenly feeling very shy about any contact with Luna, reached out to squeeze the other's hand for a very quick second. Then she started to break up the door. "We need a fire for light. Could you go in there and light some lanterns? They're just oil ones so you light the wick."

Everynow and then she'd glance at the sky. It made her twitchy as if she wished she could do something. Elle almost envied Luna in that, if Luna (and Liechi) was apart of some army then they'd be doing something.

Luna Edae
Sure. Luna moved to light the lanterns, biting her lip. ...So... what about you? What happened?

Ellette E
Elle decided now was a great time to hide the mess. She ducked inside, grabbed a garbage back and started to shove the ruined things inside as fast as she could, it had spent too long looking like a cheesey Halloween thing anyway.

"Um. I kind of stalked a vampire. Who was smart enough to know he was being stalked, and I don't know... I was curious. I didn't mean for it to end like it did though."

Luna Edae
...There was blood everywhere.

Ellette E
"Oh!" Well, at least Elle could explain that one and not make herself seem anymore the half-monster she already was.

"That was just these," She held up a plastic bag clearly labeled 'Type O Blood + Enhanced Energy' before dropping it into the bag, "I just got... I tried to eat after...well, what happened with the vampire. But I couldn't eat it. It was cold and gross. I ended up throwing them all at the fire with bad aim."

Luna Edae
Luna frowned. So what are you going to do now, Elle? If you can't drink it?

Ellette E
"Haven't thought that far ahead yet." Elle sniffed at a bag still with some left in it and made a face. She wasn't sure if she could go back to this crap. It was like she'd eaten something with the flavour of dust for fifteen years... then after so long, had a plum. Or something like that. How was she supposed to go back to the dust when there was 'plum' still lingering in her mouth and veins?!

"Guess it can wait. I can last out till after Halloween now."

Luna Edae
...Well... if you're sure...

Ellette E
"Of course I'm sure." Well, she really wasn't sure, Elle hadn't tried going that long without the red stuff before. But she didn't need it as often as humans needed food, Dr. Kamiki had said so once, and Luna's blood made her feel more awake than the prepackaged stuff.

But boy did she feel guilty about that.

"So...you won't be around for Halloween?"

Luna Edae
I don't know, Luna answered honestly. It depends on-- A pause. ...Wait. It looks like I will be.

Ellette E
"Did you get a message?" Elle added quickly, "Not that I'm prying, you don't need to tell me about secret army stuff. "

Luna Edae
It's... weird, Luna admitted. It's like, I'm in contact with... Liechi. And Liechi is in contact with everyone else. So when orders are given... It's really efficient, come to think of it. But weird. I can see why only strong Neilani can handle them.

Ellette E
"Wow, that would be weird. Esspically having someone in your head. But I knew you were powerful..." Elle flushed and went back to the cleaning. It was nearly all up now, and in the dark the spilt blood was easily hidden in shadows. Her shack almost looked back to normal.

She dumped the bag outside beside the doorway and brought in broken bits of door to pile on the fireplace.

Luna Edae
Luna bit her lip, settling down on the floor. ...I'm sorry I worried you.

Ellette E
Elle stopped arranging the wood to go sit next down to Luna, forgetting anything but Luna. Was Luna upset? She didn't like it when Luna was upset. "You'd worry me if you got a splinter. Seriously, it's okay. I was just afraid I'd hurt you badly. ...did I?"

Luna Edae
Luna shook her head furiously. I know what I was getting into, Elle. And... and I'd be happy to donate whenever needed. But... but right now, the only thing keeping me from fainting is Liechi's strength. And I don't think I can rely on that forever. There has to be another way. What about plasma?

Ellette E
"I knew I liked Liechi when I heard her talk." Elle's hands were reaching for her tail and she played with the end as she always did when she was unsure of what to do. "Is plasma different from blood? I thought it was the same thing."

Luna Edae
She's very excited to be here. Luna laughed a bit. We both aren't ready for this kind of responsibility. Maybe that's why we have each other.

She furrowed her brow as she pondered the plasma question. Plasma is easier for the body to replace. And there isn't as many red blood cells in it.

I wonder... can you take plasma? Would it help?
She was grinning excitedly now, taking Elle's hands in her own. It'd be a lot easier on me, and I could do it every three days!

Ellette E
"Maybe you'll need to give her a grand tour of Gaia. Show her all the sights. And...I don't know, has she ever tried Gaia food?" Elle grinned. She was kind of relaxing now with the fire going, and with Luna laughing, and with the mess now nearly gone. "I don't know, I never thought of it! I...well, we could see? When we need to, anyway."

Luna Edae
Well... what parts of blood do you need, anyway?

Ellette E
"I never really thought about it. I just ordered off the internet and some guy brings it once a week. It was as easy to not think about as possible... maybe I should have thought more about it. How do you tell what you use?"

Luna Edae
It looks like you've been using whole blood, Luna noted. And you took whole blood from me. But... maybe there's something in particular you need. Maybe you could even get something synthetic! Maybe...! The excitement was back as she began to gesticulate wildly. Maybe there's something we could synthesize on Neilan for you!

Ellette E
"Maybe you're right... I think that stuff I ordered was just frozen blood that they got from donations. I never really asked. It tasted terrible." Elle was feeling somewhat excited by all of this too. Did that mean she didn't have to drink from people, or drink that crap, or ...she had no idea what Neilan could do. But Luna seemed to think it was possible! "Maybe you could? I have no idea, how would you find out?"

Luna Edae
Luna suddenly paused. ...What about raw meat?

Ellette E
Elle shook her head. "Can't stomach anything that is even close to regular... just blood, and sometimes some drinks like water if I drink it slowly."

Luna Edae
"Ohhhhh," Luna mumbled aloud. Well, I'm sure there's something Neilani medicine can do. I remember health class mentioned a pill people with blood loss take...

Quote:
"Even pills? That's kind of...I don't know. I grew up thinking it was prestored blood or fresh from person blood. I didn't thinkabout alternatives." Just mentioning the 'fresh from person blood' made something in Elle stir all over again. She wasn't hungry either, it was like it was something...some half of her that liked to rear itself up whenever she thought about it. It was scary how just thinking about it made her crave it.

Yes. Pill or specially made stuff would be better.

"It must be amazing there if they can do all of that."

Luna Edae
Luna snuck a glance at Elle, a worried expression on her face. I can get you pills. I'm going to have to go back to Neilan between now and Halloween anyway so I can get a crash course in what exactly I'm supposed to be doing.

Ellette E
"No don't worry about me till after Halloween, I'm sure you've got so much to do before then. If they draft you now and need you able to do whatever it is you have to do then you'll need all the time between now and then anyway." Elle smiled at Luna as reassuringly as she could manage.

Luna Edae
It's not like they're going to be instructing me 24/7!

Ellette E
"You hope! ...well if they try, you can always come and hide out here. I promice it isn't always so crazy here. It's usually very peaceful." Elle stared back outside at the sky. She wasn't sure if there were even any stars! But that could be cloud cover, there had been a bit of it earlier.

Luna Edae
Luna smiled reassuringly. Everything will be all right. I promise.

Ellette E
"I know it will be. It's just strange. Mum will be freaking out. ...oh that reminds me, my mum!" Elle proceeded to fill in Luna about Neith's behavior, including the new found interest in UFO stuff. "And she tries to pretend she's a saleswoman for Lawls?! She doesn't even like soft drink."

Luna Edae
Luna furrowed her brow, and then smiled knowingly. The Gaians are on the move, it seems.

Ellette E
"Oh the move? You don't think she's apart of some army, do you?"

Not that it would really surprise Elle now, not after growing up with that mum.

Luna Edae
Luna shrugged. Think about it. She becomes obsessed with the UFOs, and then what does she do? She immediately goes out and starts peddling soda. Now, either the aliens are hell-bent on taking over the soft drink industry, or it's a front. She wrinkled her nose. A really bad one.

Ellette E
"You're probably right. It's just weird to think, Mum joining some army. Even if it is a Gaian one. But she did do weapon training before she came to Gaia, I suppose it's something she knows." Elle shrugged. "But I don't blame her. I mean, I know you're good but even the world alien makes me nervous right now."

Luna Edae
Well, you're dealing with two right now.

Ellette E
"Two that I like very much. One that I like a little more than very much even," Elle went a little red at that but went on quickly, "It's the ones zooming around up there in those ships that make me nervous."

Luna Edae
We'll protect you, Elle.

Ellette E
"No, I'll protect you. Both of you." Elle wasn't sure how that'd work exactly, but she wasn't going to let anyone harm Luna. Even if that meant she had to...make the illusion of a cow or something.

Luna Edae
Luna couldn't help but laugh. Let me do my job, okay?

Ellette E
"...okay, okay." Elle laughed too. She could half see Luna as some sort of powerful army person, even though the image was strange to her, and she really didn't doubt that she could do it. Whatever it was they did.

Dear Diary

I don't know what I did! Well I do but I don't... I can control it still. It just got out of hand for a day or two. I can do it. I just need to...I don't know.

What is going on with Luna? And the sky?

It's hard to explain because it was all a blur. But I met a vampire, we ended up in an alleyway luring some poor drunk man, though I admit he was kind of gross in the end with all his perviness, and I bit him. I don't even know why now, I guess I was just all in awe of this vampire and I was tired of not understanding and ...well, anyway. I did it but I just felt BAD. Worse than bad. I hated him for tempting me, and I hated it, and I ended up running home. But I couldn't eat the chilled CRAP afterwoods and I was so desperate for warmth that I drank from my arm?

Or maybe that part was just a dream.

But I made a mess, that's for sure, I was so angry. I threw the blood everywhere and broke my fridge, and locked myself in my shack.

So anyway the next morning Luna turned up with Jokeph and broke my door down. Guess they missed the key I'd flung outside. I was so tired. And I just wanted to sleep. She offered herself to me and I ...well, I don't know, I was hungry. I feel bad now! But then I just, I don't know, she was there and it was there and I didn't know or care that it was wrong. But I really hurt her and something stopped me thank GOD in some sort of head hurting thing. I can't remember exactly, I was dazed and half out of it. (Is that what being drunk or drugged is like?) She was tired and fainted. I thought Jokeph was going to beat me up then and there, and I probably would have let him.

Then the lights went out.

And it was daytime.

The sun's gone! It was barely minutes after that and then some guy who was Luna's uncle stepped in. Next thing I know he's poking a hole in the watertank and Luna's changing into something different, the same , but still different. She said she was Liechi and it's like there's another being in Luna?

(Oh yea, the UFOs made the sun go. I guess.)

Luna also seemed to think there some way of her other planet being able to make blood replacement. I hope she's right! I just...how do you replace it? They must be very advanced?

Well. Mum's nervous. Really nervous. She won't explain why she's nervous only that she is, so naturally she's put me on edge too. As if I wasn't under enough emotional crap as it is! Something about the UFOs threatening us? She wants me to carry around a gun. A gun! What the ********. Since when did my mum know how to use guns, led alone HAVE SPARES? And since when did she like guns over her sword, which is now apparently abandoned somewhere hidden?! She made me learn how to use it for an entire hour. So I know how shoot at things, can't say I have any sense of aim though, and I still don't trust the stupid thing. Luna already probably thinks I'm crazy, how would she feel if she saw me with a gun holding thing on under my cloak?!

She didn't even say the UFOs were dangerous. In fact she said they probably weren't but 'just in case'. I think Mum needs to forget about the Grunny and the Zombie attack, it...well, okay. So Halloween can get a bit crazy.

But still, she's over reacting a bit.

She's not even home now. Neither are half the elves. I don't know what's going on in Mum's head but when she wrote 'Be back later!' I get the feeling it could be a LOT later. Tiegan must have gone with her.

...does she know about what I did? Did she run away?

Elle.

...wtf. I was supposed to finish but I was out wandering as usual and at that crater there are COWS IN A FORMATION. What the ********. Argh I don't even like that word. I mean come on, I bite someone for the first time and the second time, UFOs take away daylight, Luna's Luna but not Luna and now cows are experts in making triangle shapes.

Dear Diary

Halloween's over. The funny thing is that I barely even remember noticing it beginning! There was an alien thing happening, something to do with soft drinks, and ...well, I don't remember much of it now. Just aliens, soft drink, candy, some guy called Jack and my body aching from scalp to toenail the next morning.

Whatever it was they put in those stupid soft drinks is apparently not for me. Urgh. I can't believe I drank them!

Dear Diary

I found out after Halloween that I could eat food. Not that it does much good, it doesn't satisfy, it doesn't make me feel any better, it's like... I don't know. It just doesn't do anything or taste like anything or have any use to me anymore. I asked doctors and they don't want me to do it anymore! They don't need to ask, I won't. Much. But at least I know that I can eat like a human in social situations

I just missed some of those flavers. I still do. When I eat human food, it tastes like dust but still smells good. I'm just glad that when I eat it it doesn't... I don't know. Get stuck there in my stomach. If it got stuck then we'd have problems!

For a few days I was worried it was making me sick, it or something. But I think it's a flu. Luna had it too and it's a bit weird that we share it but don't flus and colds work like that? So maybe it's not so worrying. I just freaked out a bit then because I'd just found out she was probed and it made me twitchy.

I saw Luna in the clinic too. She said she got probed on Halloween? That kind of pisses me off. It makes me want to bite their heads off. It's annoying. Why would they do that? She hasn't harmed anyone. They probed Jokeph as well. Kind of scary. Did they probe me too? ...well, if so, I'm glad I don't remember it. But I'm still going to confront them the first chance I get.

Flu isn't shaking and Mum wants to fill me up with garlic and horrible foods. I try to tell her that the garlic won't do any good and I demonstrated how I couldn't taste it by biting a clove! It also tasted like dust, like hard ...clove textured... dirt. Mum was a bit taken back. Then she told me to eat it anyway, so I did. Sometimes it's easier just to roll your eyes and do it for their own comfort.

Oh crap, I promiced to write to Luna! Well... I did send her a present? I hope that counts a bit. I can still send her a letter. I should go see her sometime soon when I don't feel so bleh.

Elle.

Elle stared at the note. She wanted to laugh and go 'Oh haha, Luna!' but somehow it'd just made her feel sicker. Than she already had felt.

She had felt sick for weeks now. And it was horrible to throw up. Chunky vomit for humans, clotted blood for Elle, and it was gross. Kind of faded. Tasted worse than it usually did. And she'd had a craving from time to time which was more 'I need to try this right now or else' than 'I wonder what it's like?'...

But a pregnancy test?!

Well, Elle thought, of course she felt off. If you were sick heaps, you generally didn't feel good. The question was why she was sick.

"Luna is mad." She muttered but without much conviction. "Yes. Mad."

Pregnancy?! Elle didn't even know if she wanted to have kids. Elle had enough sisters to last her a lifetime and she was sure there was probably a brother around somewhere too. Her mum had bred and adopted enough for several different families.

"No kid in here." Elle continued to mutter and poked at her stomach with a finger. It was kind of normal looking, right? She was sure it was. In fact, she was certian. She wasn't the type of girl who measured it with a tape measure but it seemed just as normal as ever. "If I was pregnant then I'd be more than sick. I'd have had to have sex. My stomach would be ballooning out."

She sat down at her table, pushing aside several old books and papers covered with notes, and stuck the note from Luna under an empty cup. Maybe she'd think about it.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 18, 2006 7:11 pm

"Stop fluking!"

The sound of a shatter as something small and plastic went flying across the room and knocking a glass off the table as it made its way from who had rejected it.

And it came to rest near a few more rejected plastic things of it's kind, all identical, all with the same innocent two little lines.

Elle sat against the edge of the bed, fingers scrabbling to pull open a fifth box, face quite a bit redder than it usually was. That note from Luna sat nearby, though it appeared rather crumpled. As if someone had been squeezing it in frustation, or carrying it around with them as they went to buy a pregnancy test. Just for a laugh. Just so she could see a negitive, glance at the note and go 'Hahah Luna, good one!'

Then when the first one had fluked, when it had told her she was pregnant, Elle went to a different store and got another one.

That one did exactly the same thing.

So did the third one, bought at a new store and a different brand, and the fourth, bought across town, and now the fifth, bought all the way in Aekea. Lucky she had bought two this time.

Twenty minutes later and she'd thrown the sixth in the little rejected pile with the others. And thrown out the urine in a cup which was making her feel quite sick and embarrassed.

"What the hell?!" Elle stared through one eye at the note lying close, her other hand gripping her dark hair and blocking her view partly. She tugged her legs up closer to her chest with her free arm. The boxes had all said 'See the doctor!'

Yea right.

Even if she was pregnant, Elle really wasn't ready to go to that step yet. Not that she'd accepted it. Although it explained a lot.

"Luna, what the hell?!"

She picked up a piece of paper and a pen and quickly scribbled a note.
