My Favorite Jazz Band song is Low Rider... I's easy and sounds good , pluse it has a solo.
They only thing is half of the band can play it wile the other half can't.
And No we don't suck. Because one of our hardest pieses is BirdLand and we can play it perfectly.

Are bari saxes those big-ish saxophones?? I LOVE those!
Yeah I play piano in my jazz band.... I really suck (well no I don't really but I don't really understand chords too much ((HOW did I ever make it in?! @_@)) but I figured out 9th chords...well I said I sucked because I suck at improvising and the BD had to take out my solo part ^_^'''' (((because I'm not too comfortable at it)))((((well I tried hehe)))))
Well yeah but never mind about all that, jazz band's still fun!
Oh yeah I love those latin-jazz stuff.... We should have more of those...

last year i played keyboards in jazz band which was really really fun!!! but this year i didnt make it some loser that sux at piano got the part -emo-

we learnt an amazing thing today.
if you are a c instrument this is how it goes.
it's called I'm in a dancing mood.
C............................F
I'm in a dancing mood
C............................G
I'm in a dancing mood
C............................F
I'm in a dancing mood
Yeah!
C..........G(7)............C
I'm in a dancing mood!
Now this is weird because.
it's simple, but you notcie that these notes can be played in chords.
example : C = C,E,G
so when you play the c note you could also play a g or and e.
so it carries on with all the other notes in the same matter.
BUT
this is how it really works. (the secret if you like =)
seeing as every person plays what ever they want to (in the chord restrictions obviously)
but it's still a simple song, so the great bit is
YOU CAN SOLO IN THE CHORD NOTES OVER THE ORIGINAL SONG
It's really great =)

Jazz is the best!!! I play 1st trumpet part in our schools jazz band. There's 3 trumpets, about 5 trombones, about 5 alto saxes, a tenor sax, like 4 flutes (there should def not be more flutes than trumpets. no offense to those flutists) 2 Basses, a tuba, percussionists, 2 piano players and an electric guitar. So overall we're pretty big and we play the BEST music....

And our Jazz Band is cool cause our BD doesnt make you solo. He asks who wants to solo and there is usually the same 2 people that want to.
Unfortunately I'm getting a new mouthpiece ( a schilke 14C2 biggrin ) and since I'll be able to solo really well in an upper registry of notes my friends are gonna force me to solo.

I'm 2,3, 4 trumpet in the jazz band. I don't have a set part. Pretty much one person is always on the first part and the trumpeter who gets the music gets to decided who else plays what. (*ultimate power?* lol) This is my second year in it. (In eighth grade I was set on third.) Anyways, I'm one of the few people who actually enjoy being there xp .
My band director is starting up a second jazz band tomorrow. The unfortunate thing is that the only trumpets are in 6th and 7th grade (I'm in 9th btw). I kinda want to be in it, if only for the sake of the high school people in it. Should I?
Don't get me wrong, some middle school kids are good...just not these I guess. burning_eyes

The trumpets in my jazzband always switched parts it's the lead part that they're always fighting for.

Syrinx330 -waves hand- I was a member of jazz band...for one song in our Christmas concert, but a member...kinda sorta none the less. I'm a flutist, so I have a right to be excited cause there aren't many jazz band songs for flute out there, except there is a smaller school that I used to go to, and saw people at when I went to area all-state that it turns out there is a permanent flute player in the jazz band there. Ugh. Hopefully next year I can come back to this thread and say that I'm an official member, possibly as a saxophonist -crosses fingers- im sorry theres no permanent floutist in your jazz band. we actually have 2 jazz bands at my skool.. we had so many people try out. im the guitarist in my skools jazz band and this is my first year doing jazz band. i really wanna play the saxaphone too but my parents are stuck on me playing guitar for the rest of my jazz "band carreer" there's no floutist in the jazz band im in but there is one in the other jazz band. this actually results in my having to play flute music which is extremely hard becouse it goes so high and im used to reading guitar tab.. but just thought id let you kno that there are lots of skool at least where i live that have permanent floutist in their jazz bands =)

Like i did <.< haha thats what i did =D they were only supposed to let kids that were in band try out for the jazz band but somehow i showed up and they put me in... the HS BD didnt want me in bc he hates the fact im not in band but the MS director wanted me, and hes the 1 who runs the jazz band.. (im in HS BTW) and i managed to keep my place in the band =D but you have to kno how to alot of theory to be able to play guitar in the jb. but yeah, theres always hope so just try it =D

I play Alto Sax in my Jazz Band.
Well, I did, when I was in Jazz Band... My college doesn't have a band.. not even a concert band.. makes me so sad... I wanna go back to my highschool and play hahahaha. Good Times.
I liked the Christmas music we played in Jazz band. The songs we're super easy, but really fun to play and they sounded great!
