Nik and Dan could hardly argue, so they walked obediently back to their dorm room. Nik silently began stuffing his clothes and scrolls into his trunk. He had just started when Sarrin came in.
His brother was grinning in an obnoxius sort of way. "So, master Nik" he began. "You finally got kicked out of here"
It was Nik's turn to smile now. "Of corse not, Sarrin" He said more cheerfully then he felt. "I--We--just became the High Misstress's apprentices"

"And do you know why, Sarrin? Because we can use magic with out the rituals." Dan couldn't help but grinning, because Sarrin had just turned the color of old porridge.

"And Sarrin" Nik added his smile turning to a broad grin. "You better be careful; we were just exploding candles, and this magic is extreamly hard to control."
Much to Nik's glee, Sarrin Paled to the color of wax and dashed from the room. Nik burst into mad laughter, then stopped as soon as he realised what he was laughing at.
Power.

Finally having every thing packed, Dan headed for the door. "We'd better get going."

Nik grabed his bag and followed Dan.

The High Mistress looked up as Dan and Nik walked back into her office. "Put your things in the room to the left. That will be your new home from now on."

Nik nodded and entered the beautifuly proportioned room. It had two beds, desks, and a small library.

Even though the furnishings were simple, the room it self was intricately crafted. Everything was made of the finest materials, and the wooden trim around the room was delicately carved with various scenes of people using magic. Running into the library Dan grabbed a book at random, and gawked. It was titled Magical Theory on the Practices of Mages and Magicians and it was over two inches thick. Magicians? Is that what we are?

Nik dropped his bag on a bed. He sighed and looked at Dan. "I'm going to the stables." He said, in need of the comfort of his horse. "I'll see you soon."
Nik raced through the halls of the stone building, and arived almost breathless in the large stable. He walked down the halls until he reached his own horse, a great black stalion by the name of Sarrandor. Nik patted his horse and went to get his tack for a nice long ride. One that he had no intention of returning afterward.

Dan sat on the bed, browsing through the book. From what he could understand, they were magicians. After awhile Dan looked up. Nik should be back by now... Dan was about to leave the room when a basin of water on one of the desks caught his eye. Dan stared at it, puzzled. He couldn't sense any rituals placed on it, like there would be on a scrying tool. Dan put the book down, walked over to the desk, and before he could chicken out stared into the basin.

Nik cantered Sarrandor through the forrest trails. His non-existant mucles were starting to ache, but he didn't want to turn back. Not only did the High Mistress scare him, but the entire prospect of being a Magician was somewhat on the terifying side. But the other half of his mind, the more adventurous side, told him that he was either making a fool of himself or an incredably stupid hero; running away from the most thrilling thing that had happened to him in his intire life.

Dan reeled back, gasping. There's no rituals on that thing--and yet I used it as scrying tool! And it didn't backfire! But why is Nik so far in the woods? "Where are you going Nik? Please come back, I can't do this on my own..."

Nik heard a voice, more in his mind than in his ears. It was vaguely reconizable as Dan's. He couldn't make out what he was saying, but the tone seemed to be pleading. Nik weild Sarrandor around and returned to the stable, hoping that he wouldn't get in trobble for trying to run away.

Valora cocked her head, then said, "Alright, let's go."
*** Even in the small town market, the noise was deafening. Valora wondered how people still had their hearing after being here all day. To add to her misery, she was getting bumped and jostled by about every other person. Just before she thought she couldn't take it any more, they came out in front of a huge stable.

"This is Uncle's stable." Adrina explained. "He should be here"
No sooner were the word out of her mouth than a short, rather fat man stepped out of the barn, followed by three horses. "Adrina!" he exclaimed. "I wasn't expecting you."
"I wasn't expecting to be here." Adrina admitted. "Uncle, do you have a horse for Valora?"
Her uncle looked at the Fighter and after a moment, nodded. "I think I have someone who might work."
