Something is about to happen. I can feel it.

Finnean had known for some time that his owner was upset- and it troubled him extremely that no meij winds had come to give her better news. So on this day, when the vivid breeze came blowing through, he squawked happily and danced around the wagon practically singing,

You can be forgiven!
You can be forgiven!
The boy can be saved,
Oh you MUST be the one to save him
Take him to the Northern King.

Taog barely blinked at the noise and commotion that the boisterous Snow Head made. In fact, he rarely acknowledged that the other bird existed. Even now, when a kernel of meij landed in his steady beak, the bird translated it for Caroline directly over Finnean's rejoicing- as if the light-colored Banya was not there...

What upcomes:
A lovely boy
A baby child
A chance at redemption
A betrayal
A love
And Sportze

Rojiza, who had been practicing her penmanship, looks up as the wagon suddenly explodes with sound. Finnean is the cause of the commotion, singing almost delightedly from the kernel of meij that had come his way. Rojiza listens intently to the message. I can be forgiven. That's all that matters to her right then. Kale would forgive her--she's sure of it now. After all, the meij wouldn't lie to her, would it?
No sooner had Finnean completed his message than Taog started hers. Rojiza listens just as hard to the stoic bird's message, though it becomes clear that this kernel of meij is for her mother, not her.
She hopes her mother will draw solace from her fortune, as well.

Caroline is startled by the sudden outcry from the meij-tuned animals. Hearing Finnean's fortelling of Ro's forgiveness gives Caroline great relief. Perhaps now her silent daughter would stop moping around the wagon. Taog's fortune comes more clearly than Finnean's, and certainly less exuberantly. She's mildly surprised--normally Taog is rather cryptic. Make that extremely cryptic. Today he's seemed to lay it out rather nicely.
After both birds had gone quiet again, Taog sitting silently in his cage, and Finnean chirruping happily, Caroline mulls the prophecy over.
A lovely boy. Who could that be?
A baby child. She frowns. Ro had already surpassed infancy...
A chance at redemption. Well, that was certainly good news.
A betrayal. Or perhaps not.
A love. Her heart leaps. Perhaps she'd find love when they reached the port!
And Sportze. Again with the Sportze! That had been Taog's first prophecy to her, and she doesn't understand it any more now than she did then.

"Bloody poultry," she mutters darkly, eliciting a giggle from Rojiza.

Menelie
Caroline takes Rojiza's hand and together they wind through the gathered people. Color catches Caroline's eye--a girl with hair like flames, and very tall. She and Ro approach the girl. Caroline nods up at her with a friendly smile. "That's some verra colorful hair ye've got, lass," she says warmly.

Rojiza, on the other hand, is more interested in the crate. She peers at it curiously, though she's too polite to draw attention to it. She wonders what's inside it. Maybe its contents were alive. Why was it covered with a cloth?

Oqaia
"Oh thank you! What a wonderful thing to say. I love my hair," the Fermer chattered, fluffing the mass that sprouted from beneath an equally colorful scrap of material that served as a bandana, "it's such a shiny color, don't you think? That's what my mother said. ...She's not around. Not right now, anyway. I think she went off to trade some salamanders. Who knows where she's off to now. I'm always telling her, when you're in a crowd you're in a crowd, and you've got to take someone else. She's not got hair like mine. My hair's like Pappa's- his is red, hers is brown. Not so easy to see in a crowd. ...Hey there, girly. You want to see what's under there? I think they're sleeping, but if you want, I can pull the cloth off. I think it'll be okay... hm. Yes. It probably will." She laughed, ending her long, quick tirade of speech with a bubbling trill.

Menelie
Caroline laughs at the girl. The young lady could talk nearly as much as she could! "Aye," she agrees. "Verra shiny. Might ye tell me what's got the people so worked up? It seems t'be a festival of some sort, but we've not been in the city but for a few minutes."

Rojiza blinks a few times, mildly startled at the sudden rush of speech. This girl talked more than mama, almost. Sleeping? What was sleeping? She bobs her head in a nod, bushy brown hair swishing thickly.

Oqaia
"Oh, it's the most wonderful festival coinciding that I've ever heard of! They're choosing a new Peror or Peress, and it's also All Saviors Day! It's almost unheard of that they come together." She laughed. "You silly gypsies. But oh... you want to see them? Alrighty. Here you are, little one." With that, the girl gently peeled the cloth off her wooden crate- revealing beneath three tiny birds- barely old enough to be adult Banyas, their eyes closed and gentle, bird breaths coming from their beaks.

Menelie
Ro makes a small squeak and shifts back and fort on her squirrelly feet. She looks pleadingly up at her mother. Her eyes are attracted to the bright green one.

Caroline holds up a finger to the young woman. She'd respond in a moment. "Rojiza Fidelia," she says firmly. "Do we really need another bloody Banya bird?"

Rojiza looks at her mother as if she is exceptionally dull. She nods.

Caroline throws up her hands. She can't resist her silent daughter. Plus she thinks the green one Ro has her eye on is magnificent. "Verra well," she says. "How much for the glowing green one?" She laughs and responds to the girl's earlier remark. "Silly gypsies indeed," she agrees. "What's a Peror or Peress?" she asks, feeling rather stupid.

Oqaia
"110. Beautiful little fortune, isn't she? I think she's a darling. But that's just me. I think all Banyas are darling. Oh, and..." she laughed again, "my you gypsies travel so wide around all civilization. The Peror is the current ruler of the region to the south of here- that's why there are so many Corphori around here, and Ztilors. Every other generation of ruler is the opposite sex. So this time, a Peress is being chosen to rule.

Menelie
Oh dear. It's a she. "We do," she agrees. "We've come from the Highland Gelms and through the Twiggle forest," she says. "I'm originally from the Gelms, meself, and so it was nice to travel so close to home." She looks down at the almost neon baby bird and sighs. "Perhaps ye'd be willing to let her go for 80 couplets?" she suggests, still smiling warmly. She'd ask about Banyas' breeding habits if she ended up purchasing it.

Oqaia
"Hm." Sippa said, putting on her haggling face for Caroline. "I don't see how I could let it go for less than 100. Look at it! So darling."

Menelie
Caroline looks at the she-Banya. It is darling. She shakes her head. "Heaven help me," she says. "Before I agree, I've one question. Ro an' I've already got two Banyas--both male. Will we, um...be expectin' any Banya bairns when the wee lass has grown?"

Rojiza giggles. She hadn't thought of that. How fun, to have baby Banyas!

Oqaia
"You'd need FitzCherries before they'd do that, lovey." Sippa giggled. She was no breeder- but it was clear enough how to solve that ...dilemna.

Menelie
Caroline breathes a sigh of relief, though she contains her curiosity about the FitzCherries. "A hundred couplets it is, lass," she says, reaching into the purse at her hip. "And dinna spend it all in one place, ye ken?" she winks. She smiles at Rojiza, who claps her hands gaily. "What breed did ye say the wee birdy is?" she asks Sippa.

Oqaia
Sippa's smile spread wide. "Oh I only get a percentage of it for the sell price. The rest of it goes to my sister, because even though Mamma says she's too young to come out and trade, she still did all the work with them, so I only get the percentage price. But it's okay, because I raise and sell my goats all by myself, so I don't have to give anyone else anything except if I sell feedchokes with them, and then I have them made in Mulden. The Dove don't like us cutting down their trees. So we have to go into Mulden. Twiggle is too far away- and I hear the trees are haunted there. Don't want to go cutting those down. And to the south they've all been burnt up, I hear. So sad! But I've never been down there. I've heard I could get a good price for the goats, but all they want for trade down there is food, because after all the destruction they can't grow any of their own and they're so hungry. But even if it makes me rich I don't want to sell my goats to someone who's going to eat them. I've named them and everything. Oh- but I haven't named these," she tapped the crate again. "And the green one is a female Fortune. They are kinda ill-tempered, and don't like being with other birds... but that's okay, because the more birds they're with, the more they try and impress you, and bring you money and things. This one doesn't much like me, and she knows I don't own her. But she'll know she's yours."

Menelie
Caroline laughs. "She's in for a ride, then. We've two other Banyas. Taog's stoic and rather stuck-up, and Finnean's a bit more mellow and social." She hands the coins over to the red-haired youth. "Best of luck with your goats too, lass," she says.

Oqaia
"Thank you! Those are nice bird names. I don't have any Banyas myself. But I'm hoping mother gives me one of her salamanders. They're fantastic." She took the money and weighed it with an expert hand, then subdued the little green bird the same way she'd done with the Peach, and handed it over to Caroline once the money was in her belt. "Here you are! Hope she gets along with... are they both boy banyas? The boys."

Menelie
Caroline takes the little bird. "She doesnae have a cage or anything?" asks Caroline, confused. "Taog and Finnean I purchased both in cages."

Rojiza strokes the Banya's violent green crest. She's really quite lovely.

Oqaia
Sippa shrugged. "Sorry about that. I just sell the birdies. We don't cut down a lot of trees where I'm from, like I said- and metals are far too expensive to the east. We used to get all our imports from the south, but too little is coming out of there now, and the Gelms charge an arm and a leg for their metals now. So we tend to just sell them like this. The rings are easier to get than cages. But the Port's a big trading city. I'm sure you can find something."

Menelie
"Aye," says Caroline. "Thank ye, lass." She curtsies janglingly, and she and Rojiza wind back to the caravan to introduce their new Banya to Taog and Finnean. "What d'we want to name her?" Asks Caroline absentmindedly.

Rojiza has some ideas already. She'd write them down when they got back to the wagon.

[OOC Note: Though this happened during the festival at Port Tempranillo event, this is completely outside that scheme of things.]
Caroline and Rojiza are simply out and about one day when they come across a beautiful egg.
User Image

Caroline frowns. It's larger than a chicken or duck egg. Perhaps it's a goose egg, the more commonly used eggs for Ostara egg hunts. "Hmm," says Caroline, frowning. "It's right beautiful, and all painted up like for Ostara. But that's months away." She picks it up. It's exquisitely made, like the artisan-designed eggs at Ostara. But unlike the fragile Ostara eggs whose contents are blown out through a hole, this egg is heavy. "What d'you know," says Caroline. "This egg's going to hatch."
Rojiza peers at the egg in her mother's hands. It's creamy white with red and sharp white designs, like the candy sticks she'd seen in a store once while they passed through town. She gingerly places one furry hand over the egg. It's cold. She frowns, her face in that moment matching her mother's. From what she knows about eggs, they need to be kept warm. She takes the egg from Caroline and, with the utmost care, takes it back to the wagon. She creates a nest out of blankets and sets it on the bed, silently bidding it to hatch. Don't die.

A few days later, Caroline wakes up to a crackling sound. It's sunrise on a beautiful winter morning. Snow falls softly outside the wagon door. She looks around for the source of the noise. It's coming from...Rojiza? No, she decides as she looks closer, it's coming from the egg that Rojiza had slept close with every night since they found it. It's hatching. Gently she shakes Ro's shoulder. "The wee egg's hatching," she murmurs.
Rojiza, who cares for all living things, wakes up to peer into the face of...a bird. A magnificent red, with flares of white on his wings and around his eyes. He peers back at her with stark blue eyes. Somehow he's got one of those striped candy sticks in his beak. Rojiza smiles. She knows they'd be friends.
User Image

Caroline sees the little bird, and recognizes it immediately. "Bloody hell," she murmurs, more surprised than anything. "Ro, it's a Banya bird! I'm running a bloody aviary now," she says to herself, throwing up her hands. Though she has to admit that he's a lovely, lovely creature. "Alright then," she says, sighing. It's obvious from the look in her daughter's eyes that they'd be keeping the wee birdy. "Give 'im a name, then."

His name is Iagan. I don't know why. I just looked at him and he told me, I guess. Mama says we can't get any more Banyas, that our wagon is too small for any more. There would be more room if we let Taog and Finnean out of their cages. Aurelia and Iagan don't have one. Taog and Finnean like me. They won't fly away. Aurelia has that calming ring, so she won't either. They could perch on the roof, or on the porch. Or even on Cornelius. He wouldn't mind.
I don't know why the birds all like me so much.

Being summoned by the priestess a girl ran over and smiled to both Caroline and the priestess. She looked at Caroline and smiled sweetly at her, "Would you like something to keep the sun off your face? I have this thing here somewhere, I got it in a trade from a women in Mulden. Here take it, you look as if you could use it more then me."

She fiddled behind her and then handed it over to Caroline, "You may keep it, I don't really need it." She smiled as she handed over something very pink looking that could shield her from the sun.

(Hope it's ok just to post ^^; )

Sindri stalked carefully through the caravans, keeping out of sight and wary of his mother. It was one thing to what he wished in Wind Wheels...another to go wherever he wanted. But he was curious and a wee bit arrogant. Kala wasn't about and Altaira was distracted for the moment by seeing to Dan. Her shyness didn't make him timid.

Mountain Air caught his attention. So many banya, unlike the solitary Lochan they owned, and more people than he'd ever met in his short life on the road. Maybe he'd find something to play with in there, so young hatchling or unattended food, or someone other than Alt to fuss over him.

On such a whim, he decided to try to get in the caravan.

|Yeah, it's fine. ^^ xD I so tried to do a color tag like color=rojiza. Not working so well. sweatdrop |
Rojiza's just inside the wagon, lounging on the bed with Iagan the hatchling on her stomach. She's half-asleep, really. She'd been left alone while her mother was out. No mention of what she's doing. She's just out. Caroline does that a lot--probably out for a walk. Walks are nice for clearing your head.
She smiles as she hears Finnean squawk happily. That would probably be her coming back now.

(I've done something simular before. X3' )

Clearly stealthy theft was out but fun could still be had, if this girl was friendly. The bobcat stayed on his feet however, just incase he needed to run - but mother had said all the gypsies seemed nice enough...Sindri looked around him, sniffed and flicked his ears, before miowing for some attention - almost like a domestic cat - he could be tame if it suited him.

Wake up. I'm visiting with you.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 03, 2007 4:18 pm

The door opens and not her mother, but a large cat enters. Ro backs up against the wagon wall, cradling the Banya chick. Please don't eat him, please don't eat him, please don't eat him... she thinks. It's a moment before she realizes that it's another Fortunette, not a random wild cat. She puts Iagan out of reach of Sindri, just incase. She sits cross-legged on the bed and tips her head at him.

Wouldn't eat it....just....'play' with it abit. But since Ro seemed to like it so and she was home, Sindri was more interested in her. He even put an effort into making a growly sort of purr and tried to mimic the head bob. See? Friendly cat. Pity he couldn't speak, really.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 04, 2007 5:13 pm

Ro relaxes a bit as the cat appears to be attempting to purr. Nice kitty, she thinks strongly in its direction. She crawls from her spot on the bed and kneels next to Sindri. She experimentally pats his head, wondering how to behave around a fellow Fortunette, even though he's still an animal.

That's right, make a fuss of me~

Nice squirrel-girl. Studying her a moment, he considers what to do. He'd had to watch the real domestic cats he'd seen to try and figure out how to act tame. The purring came naturally, but then so did kneading with claws and little, sharp, affectionate bites - Altaira's hands bore a few marks from those - though he didn't really know Ro well enough for those.
