Herald 8.10.05
Your Herald is now a child with a personality all her own. Except for the wings, it's almost easy to forget that he was once an angel, isn't it? Even he seems to have forgotten. But the past hasn't forgotten him...
Your Herald has been dredging up odd bits and phrases from some hidden corner of the mind.
What are the words? What do they mean, and how does this fragment of memory return? It didn't feel like he was dreaming, but he definitely wasn't awake. For one thing, he wasn't this tall, and he had a tail... "Don't give up," he heard himself saying, in a voice too soft and gentle to be his own. "It's not your fault. You don't have to atone." The woman before him was being devoured, by tiny white bunny rabbits and thick black snakes. No...the snakes were a part of her, and they were getting eaten, too. But even as they were eaten, they were destroying her. Creepier than the fact that the woman resembled his mother before her hair turned blue, creepier than the differences in his body and his voice, creepier than anything Rand could imagine... ...she wasn't fighting back. She was just laying there, unresisting. She thinks she deserves it.She didn't seem to hear him, couldn't seem to hear him. It was like he was invisible, or worse, he just couldn't get through that wall of misery and doubt she'd built around herself. One more time. I have to try it one more time."You'll never be able to make it better, if you die here."The woman's eyes opened, and a bright light engulfed her...the snakes drew back, the bunnies scampered off, and she picked herself up... "Rand wake up! Rand miss breakfast if not wake up!"Rand startled awake, and promptly threw his pillow at the clockwork dragon. Verde always woke him up too early! "Aw, Verde! I didn't get to see if she was alright!"The pillow slid off Verde's face, leaving the little dragon baffled. "What Rand say? Rand sleeping, no one here.""There was a girl...and she looked like mom...and I was telling her not to give up!" Rand explained. "And she was just starting to listen when you woke me up!""Rand have weird dream," was Verde's assessment. "Now come have breakfast.""..." Was it really just a dream? Yeah, probably. "...okay. Just let me get dressed..."*** Moments later, Rand had dragged himself down the stairs, Verde zipping through the air above him as he chowed down on a bowl of cereal with a side of buttered toast (butter side down, just the way he liked it.) Mom was where she always was, behind the bar, pouring him a tall glass of orange juice. "Mom, have you ever been attacked by bunnies?"Owle froze, her eyes growing wide, and she had to forcibly keep herself from spilling the orange juice. "Not as such, no," she answered. "Why would you want to know a thing like that?" Rand shrugged, pretending he didn't notice the reaction. Grown-ups were weird. "Just wondering."And with that, morning continued as usual.

Surfing GAIA --- Rand was on the beach, having climbed out his window in the wee hours of the morning. It had been so early, he'd watched a motorcycle drive off from the Firebrand...and he thought his sharp eyes might have caught blue hair on the back of it. Nah, she can't be leaving me again. So unconcerned, he was now standing with a piece of driftwood in his hand. The kid was already dripping wet, from his wolf ears to the tip of his lupine tail, and sand had gotten everywhere on him. It soon became apparent why when he hoisted the driftwood above his head and went charging at the waves. At the last second he jumped, trying to fit his small body onto the board and surf on the small waves coming in. As had happened the last umpteen times, he slipped and fell, letting the tide carry him back to the beach. Standing up and brushing himself off, he collected his energy to try again. The Escape --- It probably wasn't what the bird was looking for, not at all. But a window slid open, and a little boy's legs slid out of it, a bushy wolf's tail soon following them. Within moments there was a child dangling off one of the upstairs windowsills, bright green eyes looking down at the roof of the awning three feet beneath him. He waited there for a moment, the wolf ears that emerged from his tousled brown hair twitching as they listened to the noise coming from the tavern. Wolf hybrids weren't so uncommon on Gaia as to be a rare sight, but something made this little boy stick out. He had wings. They didn't look like they did him any good, seeing as how he was dangling out a window, but, still, they were wings. On closer inspection it looked as though they were made of some plush material, the rough stitches that had sewn them together clearly visible on the outside. "Shh!" the boy whispered, noticing the bird on the signpost. Having seen several talking animals in his short life, and knowing his mother could change into one, he often assumed such creatures were more intelligent than they were. He really didn't want this bird making a ruckus and drawing the attention of his mother, or, worse yet, of Verde. The boy dropped down onto the awning with a thump, then clambered down the newly built structure till he was standing on the sand of the beach. He looked back only once, to mutter "weird bird" as the eagle decided to perch by one of the many bottom floor windows. The bird could certainly fit on the windowsill, particularly if the window was opened. And a few of them were, it being a relatively nice day on the beach. Just as the bird had lost interest in the boy, Rand had lost interest in the bird. He ran off down the beach, intent on finding some driftwood and pretending he was surfing. Which, for Rand, involved actually attempting to surf.

Herald 10.4.05
Already, your Herald has gone through many experiences. His time with you has begun to shape and mold the child. Yet, there are many experiences to be had.
Your Herald has been asked to do something not yet asked of before. He isn't sure how to go about the task.
What is the task? How does your Herald go about to accomplish it? Does he come to you for help or does he try to do it alone? How does your Herald react to such a difficult task? "Ugh..." That was mom, making funny sounds as she lay in bed. Somehow she'd gotten all scratched up; she'd probably gotten into a fight with someone. Mom came home with injuries a lot, and she never explained to Rand how she got them. He was going to have to follow her to one of these "boring" places she always told him she was going one of these days. "Rand?" her voice was slow, her eyes half-open, as if she barely even recognized him. "Good morning..." "Mom, me an' Verde are STARVING! When are you gonna make breakfast?""Break...fast...?" Like she didn't recognize the word. Normally Rand wouldn't even have intruded into her room, and Verde had been yelling at him not to, but it was almost time for lunch and he hadn't gotten food! "Ough..." Mom groaned again. "Rand, I'm sorry, I'm not feeling well...I don't think I'm going to be out of bed for a while, and the dwarves take the mornings off on most days..." Her hand groped around on her night table until they found a little pouch that clinked. Undoing the drawstring, she withdrew a few gold coins, the most common local currency. "Can I trust you to go buy yourself some cereal? There should be plenty of milk here, so if you just go to the store and get yourself a box..." She didn't trust him to use the toaster without her supervision. She did trust him to go to the local store without getting into too much trouble, though. "Take Verde, with you..." And then Mom pulled the covers up over her head, as if that could just get rid of him. Luckily, Rand was too hungry to argue. He took the gold coins from her and darted out the door. "Come on, Verde, let's get breakfast!"One hour later... "Rand sure Rand knows way?" Verde asked, peering around suspiciously at the trees they were walking through. Rand had abandoned the path some time ago in favor of a 'shortcut' that only he knew about, despite the fact that neither of them had ever been into town before alone, and Mom never used any shortcuts. To tell the truth, Rand had just seen an interesting plant off the path in that direction, and had wanted to examine it more closely. It was pretty neat; its leaves gave off this funny smell when you crushed them, and they were all spiky and shaped weird...Verde had yelled at him for wasting time, but Rand had moved on at his own pace, confident he could find their way back to the path. "Of course I know! I've gone this way plenty of times!"His confidence was shrinking a little, though, as half an hour passed with no sign they were getting any closer to the path. Not that he was going to show Verde this, though...the little dragon'd be mad and scared, and then he'd tell Mom, who would get mad and scared, and then... ...well, he just didn't want to think of what would happen then. "Then why Rand not there yet? Verde and Rand never take this long to get to town with friend. Verde thinks Rand get Verde lost. Verde thinks maybe Verde turn around, go back home, get friend.""Verde, I told you! I know where I'm going!"He had abandoned his sense of direction after a while, though, opting to follow his nose instead. The scents of the forest tended to be a little weaker along the path and around the edges, so maybe... Sniff, sniffWas that...oatmeal? "C'mon, Verde, this way!"And before the dragon could protest Rand was off, loping through the woods. ---- The lone traveler looked up, surprised, as a wolf boy and a clockwork dragon burst into the tiny clearing she had chosen to make camp. She'd been in the middle of making breakfast for herself, if the cauldron of oatmeal in front of her was any indication. "Rand wait up!"The little dragon quickly flew in, and settled on Rand's shoulder. "Well, hello, there," the traveler greeted them once she'd recovered her composure. "And who might you too be?" "I'm Rand! Nice to meet you!""Me Verde. You friend?""Well, as long as you two are friendly to me, I'll be friendly to you. Now, then...what brings you tykes out here without anyone else around to take care of you? The woods are dangerous places when you wander them alone..." "I don't see you with anyone," Rand protested, folding his arms over his chest. He was big enough to take care of himself! "We're getting breakfast, that's all."The traveler chuckled. "Breakfast? Did you think you were going to catch it yourself?" Rand's ears drooped at her laughter. He'd like to claim to be a big strong warrior, a hunter who provided for himself...but it seemed like adults had a way of finding out the truth when you lied to them. "No...we were gonna go into town and buy it!""Town's a long way away, little one. Why don't you share my oatmeal, then I'll help you find your way back home? What do you say? "...I'm sure your mother must be worried about you." Mom looked too conked out to worry about anything, but breakfast sounded good. Rand's stomach wasn't going to hold out much longer... "Okay!"And so the little wolf boy sat down to eat, and was once again saved by the kindness of an adventurer...

Once upon a Time: Owle's awakening Stage: Child Rand practically leapt into bed, cannon balling into his pillow and squirming under the covers faster than you could say 'story.' Owle had promised to tell him a good tale before he went to sleep tonight...and she was astonished at how quickly he managed to change, brush his teeth, and fall into bed. "Tell me a story! You promised!"Owle chuckled. "Yeah...I did. Alright...I'll tell you my story. From the beginning." Rand's ears pricked up, and he listened attentively. Mom never talked about her own past to him, at least, not often. "It was a bright autumn morning in early September, when I woke up for the very first time. I didn't know who I was, or where I was, or why I was there, or...well, anything, really. I remember wondering why the trees were all sideways, until I realized it was because I was laying down. "My name was Owle Isohos...I could remember that much. The name had a meaning, each letter stood for a word: One Who Left Eden In Search Of Her Own Sunrise. I remembered...I had left a place that was supposed to be paradise, in order to be free. For a long time, that's all I knew about my past. "Suddenly, I heard a bloodcurdling scream! I ran towards it, hoping to find company. I didn't have anything to lose - no home, no memories, not even much of an identity, really - so I didn't even think before charging right in. And that's how I met Dart and Yuki. They were my first friends on Gaia, and we were all running from something...Dart was running from hell, and trying to find his brother. Yuki was running from the lab that created her. And Myers, who we met later, was running from an evil witch who could turn him into a fly!" Owle leaned in, making mock claws with her hands at Rand, just to illustrate how evil and scary the witch was. "I guess I wasn't really running from anything, but I ran with them anyway. Myers disappeared, though, and Dart and Yuki told me they were going to have to go their seperate ways...Dart to find his brother, and Yuki to keep from endangering the rest of us. Because, the people from her lab would take us, too... "...I never saw them again."
