I march with 2 different instruments... they are the clarinet (no problem at all unless u get it shoved in your mouth and knock out a couple of teeth like i did) and i march w/ the barri sax...
barri sax is so big and so heavy so its pretty hard to march with. so were not allowed to march with it during hot days for fear of us passing out (our bd's are really protective)

tuba!! i feel so sorry for those tuba players. marching 5 miles in the sun with this like 30 pound instrument sounds like hell.

It's not really that bad. We march with the contras instead of the sousas, and it's bad at the beginning of the season, but you get used to it. And you build a lot of muscle. I have little guns. Like... .22's.

Definitely the baritone.
It takes a lot of muscle and is very hard to keep steady when marching.
Unless you practice a lot, it's difficult to keep up.
I now can hold it up for 15 minutes, but that's with a crapload of practice.

The tuba propped up on the shoulder is called a Contra.
They actually aren't that hard to march with. However, use it enough and you start walking all awkward from the contra pushing down on one side so much.

Quads. They're cubersome and can weigh upwards of fifty pounds.

vibes.

heh, no. We're pit. But they would be horrible to march with. How would you play when you're rolling this thing around the entire time?

Most definitely tuba. I have a permanent bruise on my left shoulder. The things are painful and heavy and huge. Not that I don't love tuba, but...

Oh, and anyone who thinks it's easy should try it. Gr.

I play the baritone, and it's fine until you have to go to the Horns up position.
Then after a while, it feels like my arms are seriously about to collapse.
I would also think the tuba would be really hard.
Those suckas are huge, aha.

I play the Clarinet which I feel is the easiest. biggrin

Baritone is heaviest so I'm going with that.

heart i'd have to say the marching euphonium, simply because you have to hold it out about two inches farther than a marching baritone.
luckily our band uses baritones.

At my school they make trombones march baritone cause our BD is just lazy and doesn't wanna make sure we have enough room. So for us baritone is definately one of the hardest cause you've had this maybe 5lbs instrument and then you switch to a 15lbs+ instument so your arms hurt alot. (I have the heaviest on the line and I'm only a freshman crying ) And then you start arching your back and then constantly feel the need to pop your back.
Susaphones suck for your shoulder but for the most part they're okay because your not being told to put your horn up all the time. And I marched one in a parade last year so don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. The only problem I had was I was taking alot of breaths because I was used to a trombone.

i have to say the instrument that i play which is the marching tuba, not the sousaphone, which weights 50 to 55 pounds and when you are dressing to the left you can't see anything and another instrument is the tenor drum
