arrow Inside the Mind of Kaosu

He felt himself almost floating. He was expecting to enter the familiar fields, but instead he just floated in the varying blackness. Then, he felt an almost out-of-body experience as he felt himself being bandaged up, and a girl saying, "Nice try, Mister Prideful. Maybe next time you'll get me." Then, an echoing laugh.

A girl? Do I know a girl? Kaosu thought inside his own head. Wait...I remember. Mai. Then Kaosu felt his eyes burn with tears, though he was unconcious. I lost again. Again. How many losses is that now? Four? Five? I can't let it be so bad I'll lose count. No, I cannot stoop to that level.

Kaosu's eyes opened, and it was night; light barely peeking over the sky beyond. "Wha?" Kaosu groaned. Then, the pain hit him like a train. "ERGH!" He clutched his legs in a mocking fetal position as the pain throbbed through his frame. Then, he tried getting up. It hurt just as bad as it had when the cut was first made, maybe even worse. He looked at his wounds, and they were dressed properly.

"Mai." He muttered. "Thank you." He then picked up his zanpaku-to and started walking. "Seems like a long way to the Seiretei when every muscle aches."

yojimbo comes sauntering through the forest, a new jug of sake in his hand. as he wanders through, he sees one of the students from the earlier class lying on the ground with some one standing over him. yojimbo ties up his sake jug and pulls out his zanpakuto, running twords the unknown person and swinging his blade horizontally.

Kaosu turned towards the sound of the rustling in the brush and saw the faint glint of a weapon, a zanpaku-to. He waved at the person, instantly recognizing who it was by the bottle of sake. "Yo...jimbo right? I think I got that right. I know this looks bad, but we were just having a friendly spar. It's alright. I'm gonna be off. Seeya later, man." He waved a friendly hand farewell, regardless whether the sake-drinker would attack him or not. He knew his destination, and he would make it.

The Beginnings of a Style.

Kaosu sighed as he stepped into the familiar meadow amidst trees. "Well, reading time." Kaosu sat on the large stump again, this time with a large bag. He opened the clasps on it and pulled out a fairly large tome. It wasn't really like most tomes Kaosu thought about: all covered in dust, ancient secrets, and curse bindings. No, it was...just a book.

Kaosu peeled the first page back and read a humongous title. "Introduction to Fighting: Basic Styles and Postures." Kaosu shrugged as he peeled this page back, and began reading the first chapter...

Kaosu sighed again. "Learning all this is...blech. But, it will help me. I just wish it would be more interesting." Kaosu's fist was firmly planted into his cheek as he lazily turned another page.

Then, an idea struck him. "Hey, why not just try 'em out?" He decided to do just that, so that after every chapter he'd be able to try out the stance, the thrusts, and the blocks.

"Lessee...chapter one is all about traditional Tai-Kwon-Do. The stance is..." Kaosu copied the stance in the book, staring at every part of his body and then back at the book. Satisfied, he tried throwing a few punches and kicks. It just felt..."Uncomfortable." Kaosu finally decided.

"Next."

Kaosu sat back down and studied the next one on his long list. "Chapter Two, Jeet Kun Do. Hmmph. Sounds like a stupid bug." Regardless, however, Kaosu stood up and took the position of the fighting style. Hey, this one ain't bad! Kaosu thought, but then found out he was doing it all wrong. When he finally set himself up into the proper stance, it didn't feel right at all.

He rubbed his feet afterward. He didn't think feet were supposed to bend that way. "Okay, scratch that. Next!"

After flipping from page to page to page to page and trying everything it asked, Kaosu was about to give up. But, he believed he finally found it. "Gen Fu...The Art of Animals" Kaosu grinned and stated cockily, "Well, I am an animal."

However, as he continued to read, he learned that this style wasn't about one singular fighting style. It consisted of many, so many. He nodded as he read through the descriptions of each individual type, Dragon, Monkey, Tiger, Crane, Cobra, Bear...the list kept on. He finally narrowed it into three:

•Dragon: Overall the greatest and strongest. It plays into all the animal playing fields, using swift, strong strikes to open up an enemies' defenses while keeping theirs closed.

•Bear: Nothing stops this style. They focus mainly on the power behind the blows they send out. Though every 'animal' wishes to avoid it, this style isn't afraid to take a blow in order to open up their opponent to attack. They will do anything it takes to crush their opponents under them.

•Monkey: They constantly keep themselves on the ground, using a gained superior strength to keep in close contact with their opponent, leaving little chance for counterattack as they are being flung, slammed, and hit continually.

Kaosu grinned. He knew the perfect one for him.

Bear.

It was a decision so obvious Kaosu couldn't ignore it. Sure, the stance probably didn't have the best defence, but he was natural for the role. And the stance was simple too. Slightly bent knees, fingers pressed tightly against the palm, left arm straight out, right arm bent so that the forearm touched his hip. Yes, it suited him perfectly. He took a few practice jabs, and found that from the crouched position his right arm was in, he could not only heave out a powerful punch, but block the lower part of his body while his left covered the top.

Kaosu was loving this. He turned back to the book, but the pages had turned in the slight breeze blowing. He peered into the new pages, and saw something that even more increased his heartbeat.

"Using Weapons in Fighting Stances: Gen Fu"

Kaosu jumped onto the pages so that it wouldn't turn any farther. When he was sure he had kept it on the right page, he got up and started reading it. "Bear...bear...bear...bear...there it is!"

Kaosu flipped to the specific section about his newfound stance. "Okay..so you do something like this?"

Kaosu had pinned down the pages with a few small rocks, and looked back at them. "Maybe a little to the left."

He stared at his stance, and nodded approvingly. He had unsheathed his zanpaku-to from his shoulder and whipped it right down to his hip, the same side that held his dominant hand; which was the right.

"Awesome."

Kaosu swung up with a heavy shove, then brough the sword back down to his hip. He then pushed both his hands out into a jab, then sliced to the right, again returning to his hip.

Then, he attempted a few fake blocks. They seemed steady, natural. Almost as if he had been doing them his whole life.

"There ya go, Tsai. I found a style already, without your help! Of course, nothing couldn't do without improvement."

Then, his enthusiasm faded a bit. "Hmph. I need someone to train with. To see how effective I am with the whole thing." He knew of no one really. He hadn't seen a single trace of Mai since the sparring incident, Tsai would probably be doing some random stuff with his journal and refuse to come, and only the gods could know where Zaviel ended up.

"Pff. If only that drunken dude had come right now instead of before."

Kaosu, however deterred, couldn't pass up the chance to show off his new stance and technique to someone. You can always show them to me. A voice boomed.

"ARrrgh!" Kaosu bellowed, turning around to...nothing. "Dammit, man. Don't screw with me like that. That is just....unneccesary."

Oh, I find it plenty neccessary. I think your progress is...satisfactory to say the least. Though Kaosu couldn't see it, he could basically 'feel' a deep sense of congratulations coming from the zanpaku-to.

"Only satisfactory?" Kaosu smirked. "All that I have done, and it's only satisfactory?"

You will truly be well in my eyes when you finally achieve your shikai, your Initial Release.

"Oh, yeah. Like that's gonna happen soon."

The voice boomed with laughter. Yes, true. But, maybe it would be smart if you employed many different styles from different worldwide techniques. That way, even if you use this hardly defensable style, it'll be almost undefeatable.

(You found one, but you haven't mastered it and it won't take 5 minutes either >_< Kaosu must continue to use it for a loooong time before he can master that..)

((Tsai, my intellectual friend...I never, never, never, never, NEVER said Kaosu mastered this fighting style. No, he only knows the basic stance. The rest of it will come with a whole ton of practice, a whole ton. I'm sorry if it came across as a god-mod learn. I apologize. But, like when I took a few classes of taekwondoe, the stances were really easy to get into, for the most part. The hard part was moving while keeping the pose. Which...as you will soon see, might just be a big problem for Kaosu...))
