Prefect-Sallie
That's the giant squid. Why is it in Pirates of the Carabbean they also have a giant squid but call it...kraken is it? or was it a giant octupus? It was a variation of the Giant Squid. Called a Krakken because a true giant squid was called a Krakken in Medieval Ages by some sailors. It also had various other names
xp . Also, there is a version of a giant sea monster in the majority of classical mythological stories.
Greece had the Hydra, a three-headed sea serpent which was Posiden's pet and the creature that he sent out to do his dirty work (notice a simliarity there?). Rome had the hydra under a different name.
Pirate lore called it a Krakken and it was said to be able to devour an entire ship if it wished to do so.
In DnD (one of my areas of knowledge....Gawd, I'm sucha nerd.
wink ), the Krakken was said to be a sea monster in the shape of a giant squid, except the actual Krakken was monstrous. The Krakken was extremely intelligent and in some cases, Telepathic to it's master. Of course, this lore was based from a bit of every day life. So it may have come adapted from the Posiden myth. In which case, if Pirates also borrowed from the Posiden myth, that could explain how the Krakken knew Jones' wishes. Also, it was technically a pet of Jones'. So...who knows? That's my two bits.
