Irame nodded. "Well that is the best that can be said and the best that can be done." She certainly hopped that he would do well, she aways hopped that students would do well. "So..." She asked "which division are you signed up for? I mean I know magic, but do you have a preferance? I'm very sorry but I don't remember if what you had signed up for."

Rylenn stifled his laugh. These professors.. he liked. He cooed at the crow and nodded. "I think.. that no one would dare mess with Professor Dante's crows but you. And you seem to love to.. forgive the pun, but you seem to love to ruffle his feathers..."

He paused for a moment before looking at Dante. He smiled gently. "But I can sign up for as many as I wish, correct?" He grinned mischeviously. He looked around. "Excuse me for a moment.."

He padded over to the tables and grabbed some foodstuffs for the bird and some for himself. He padded back and offered yet another nibble to his bird. "I'll just have to set myself up for afternoons with you.." He winked and fluttered his fingers at the bird. "I'm a -horrible- student..." He grinned mischeviously. "If you don't mind me coming in a more comfortable outfit.. of course.."

"I don't ruffrel his feathers." Gilanuir smirked. "I'd more say play around with him." He chuckeled a little. "Besides, Irame would play around with the crows, and I don't doubt that Javelin would as well. I bet that a lot of others could have done it..." He said looking over at the other teacher, smiling happily. They both knew, but how was Dante going to prove it?

"Oh, Greg, I was speaking with Norman. He's still waiting for an explanation and payment for three rolls of green, red, and blue ribbon that seemed to have mysteriously ended up on one of the order lists under the name 'I <3 Teytey," he said dryly. "I've had conferences with both Javelin and Irame, and neither of them had anything of the sort."

Then he turned back to Rylenn, smiling and nodding. "I can't guaruntee that you'll be able to get any length of time in a row, but you're welcome to take the birds out of the office and play with them. They usually remember to come back in."

He paused, then changed the subject. "I take it you are a fan of animals? You'd love my sister. She loves horses." He chuckled fondly at the memories. "We had about a third of our riding grounds dedicated to stables with her horses in them. She was a psycho, there's no getting around that--but she loved those horses."

Rylenn nodded and smiled. "Thank you." He, himself nibbled on something.. It had been forever since he had a real meal. This of course wasn't a real meal, but beggers couldn't be choosers in this day and age.

He paused when family and psycho was mentioned and looked at Dante. "No.. I'm not fond of animals.. I'm fond of anything that's fond of me, really." He smiled weakly. "If you've read my essay, you'd know my past.... why I'm here.. all of that. So I won't go into it unless I absolutely have to." He turned back to the bird and fed it a small bit of meat.

"....I'm sorry," Dante said, looking away to the side. "If it's a tender issue for you, I mean. I read a lot of essays in a day, and some sometimes seem to blur together. That is no excuse, however, and I cry your pardon."

He paused, looking a mix between distressed and conflicted. Then he spoke.

"I've been talking to Norman...about going back to my village and letting some of the students come with me. I have to ask permission from Mother and Father, but...if I can, would you like to come with me? And other students that are interested?"

(( Jumping in here ninja ))

Once the speech was over, Zach ... really didn't have much of an idea what to do with himself. He wandered aimlessly about the area, sampling food here and there. But it had been ... ages since he'd been in a crowd of people this size, and eventually he started getting a little edgy with so many people around.

But he didn't want to leave yet either, so he just started looking around for a place where maybe he could be alone but still watch what was going on. He was wondering if maybe there were any ... well ... magical things around.

Ohh! Maybe ... he could go looking for them. They were allowed to explore the campus, right? Excited now, he turned without even watching where he was going ...

And then there was good ole' Professor Ardanay, always seemingly in the way of students. It seemed laughable. Perhaps it was. Wherever there was a boy about to dash off elsewhere, he was right there to be in their very path. Of course, he wasn't necessarily the only obstruction of desires around here... but he was certainly one of the more prominant. Eyes lowered to look at what almost slammed into him.

A student. Typical. The school was teeming with them. Couldn't even go into a classroom without finding one. Those thoughts were amusing ones and they made Ardanay give his cheerful smile to the boy. He was quite the nice teacher. Strict, kind and he kept his problems to himself. It was almost too good to be true, but hey... it was true! "Apologies. We should both be more careful next time." What else was he supposed to say? Oh right. Introduce himself. However that seemed a bit redundent. If this boy was in his class then he'd probably be introducing himself to him twice. Oh well, it was his job. The day in the life of teacher-hood usually meant repeating something at least fifty times (especially when you had a class of fools who thought they could get away with simply notes alone).

"I'm Professor Veilwood, head of the science department. You are?"

He made an embarrassing little yelping noise when he suddenly bounced off someone else, barely managing to catch himself before he fell completely over. Oh great, and it was a teacher too. Ugh. He made a mental face. Yea, sure, he'd known this was a school he was going to ... but really he was here to find magic. At the moment, he didn't much care about classes and such.

He'd done all right and more than all right in school, yea ... but mostly it had been boring. Memorize something and spit it back out again for a test. Ooh so much fun. Not.

Said teacher seemed like an ok sort though ... not going off telling him to do something right off the bat. Except be more careful, which made sense. "Yea, sorry," he replied, ducking his head a little so his hair hid more of his face. A sort of trick, that. Made him look sorrier than he really was. "I'm Zach," he said then, glancing up again. Head of the science department, huh? Well. Not likely he'd see this guy much, since he was in magic.

There seemed to be a few things wrong with the whole situation from the get-go. For one thing, the boy didn't make eye contact at first and when he did and replied his name he didn't give his full one. No matter, Ardanday Veilwood saw where his interests lies. Not with science. Regretful that was, he seemed to be loosing more and more of his following.

Where would they be when technology and magic failed? They'd be crying to Professor Veilwood and he'd be screwed over with extra work. Somewhere inside himself that upset him but his face was an ever smiling mask. "Well it's nice to meet you. You're a magic student are you not?"

There was a quick flash of a smile at that, and he nodded. "I am ... I ... I've always thought that magic existed." He stopped after that, not really wanting to go into all the details. But inside, he shivered slightly with excitement. He was finally here and he'd get to see magic for real. And not only that, learn to do it himself.

"No, that's quite alright," he answered with a boyish grin. "Actually, I'm not really sure what devision I signed up for. Knowing me I'll probably switch around more then once," he said while his hand went behind his head to stratch an imaginary itch. "But I think for now I'll study light magic."

"I wish you luck then." It was always nice to see a boy that determined or rather, a boy that excited to learn a craft he'd always longed for. However, sometimes no matter how hard one tried it would be a failure in the end. You could not be an over achiever in something as fickle as magic. Perhaps magic was not well... fickle... exactly... but it wasn't a guaranteed thing. Nor was science but at least you could make ideas about what would happen. Magic was random (in his eyes).

Zach nodded again and started to turn away, figuring the conversation was over now. But well ... damn. Now the teacher was bound to be watching him for a few minutes. No chance to sneak away anymore.

“Ah, light magic.” Irame nodded. “A noble field. If you need help then please ask me and I will see what I may do. I was never overly good at elemental magics but I have studied light and dark magics extensively.” She laughed a little self consciously. It had always been something that the other leaders had whispered about behind their hands. ‘Look at that one. She would be a prodigy. If only she weren’t a Necromancer. If only she weren’t so tainted, so dirty, so strange…’ “So if there is ever anything that you need help with simply ask me and I will try to help you as best I can.”
