"I can understand how that feels. Being in this little town is a lot like that." Jade watched Nikolai carefully, making sure he didn't choke from how fast he was drinking.
Rather quickly, the hot cocoa was gone, and Nikolai looked more than pleased with a warm belly. With Jade taking his empty cup from him, he lay down to sleep off the effects of the warm drink.
Setting the cup on a night stand, Jade tucked Nikolai in before taking a seat on a trunk opposite the room from Owle and Rand and sat facing them. "Would you both like to stay for dinner? I'm afraid I haven't much to offer, but there's still plenty roast beef and mashed potatoes from last night's dinner if you would like some."

Owle was certain being in a little town was nothing like wandering through Barton Forest, hunting to survive, and searching for missing family while switching back and forth between two noncompatible personalities who didn't remember the time they spent as the other. But since she didn't want to explain the details of this, she kept her mouth shut on the subject.
"Oh, I wouldn't want to impose," Owle answered, contemplating her own half-empty mug. It wasn't like she couldn't get food back at the Firebrand, after all, though it would be nice to have a meal she didn't have to prepare for once.
"I like mashed potatoes," Rand commented, then turned his mug upside down over his mouth and attempted to shake out the last drops.
"I mean, if you're sure its not any trouble..."

((X3 Thankie! :3 Shouko did a great job on him))
"If you don't mind leftovers, it's hardly imposing." Embaressed that was the best she could offer her guests, Jade offered Rand her hot chocolate that was left untouched. Though, the whipped cream looked like a slanted mountain by now. "Make yourselves at home, it'll be a few minutes." It'd been quite a long time since Jade had had company, and she had to say, it did feel rather nice to have someone to talk to. Especially someone who would be able to help with questions she might have about Nikolai.

"Well, alright, then," Owle answered with a smile. "Thank you."
Leftovers were still good. Owle had occasionally eaten small animals raw, so she felt she had gained a better appreciation for cooked food. Especially cooked food she didn't have to go through the effort of cooking or hunting down.
Rand eagerly accepted the extra mug. "Thank you!"
He took a few sips of the cocoa, then remembered Nikolai. Nikolai seemed to like hot chocolate, and if he couldn't even run around, well...
Rand crept over to him, holding the mug out as an offering. "You want some? We could share."

Nikolai blinked open his eyes and yawned silently. Propping himself up on an arm, the little Herald reached out to take the mug carefully. His face showed an expression of confusion, not knowing just what to do with it. After all, he'd already drank all of his, didn't Rand want it?
Busying herself in the tiny kitchen, Jade made sure to use up all that was left over in the fridge for the guests. It would be rude to give them meager portions after all.

"Go ahead...I had lots already, and this is extra, so..."
Rand shifted uncomfortably. Jeez, maybe this was a mistake; Nikolai didn't seem to want it, anyway. He should have kept it all to himself...
What the boy didn't notice was Owle's smile at him as she sat in the corner, quietly approving of his generosity.

It took Nikolai a minute to understand before finally smiling and taking a sip from the mug. He set it down afterwards on a nightstand and looked back to Rand cheerfully. Perhaps he wanted to play a game?
Within a few minutes Jade had fixed dinner for the group and brought the plates in on a large tea tray. Opening the door with her foot, she began passing out plates first to Owle and then to Rand before taking a seat on Nikolai's bed to tend to him. "I hope it's all right..." She said with a bit of embaressment to her voice.

Rand smiled back, though he for once couldn't think of something to say. Nikolai's silence unnerved him a bit, made him lose his footing.
"Mom, how come you never cook stuff like this?" Rand asked, wasting no time in digging in to the food. Obviously he had no complaints.
"It's fine," Owle assured Jade, politely beginning to nibble. "I mean, you're feeding us, of course it's all right."
She turned to Rand. "Well...I dunno, I'm just used to cooking steak all the time. I can try making something like this if you want, though."

"It's just meatloaf..." Jade said with even more embaressment. Was her cooking that indistinguishable? Turning back to Nikolai, she scooped a spoonful of mashed potatoes and held it out to him. "Say 'aaah'..."
The Herald made no move to speak, but did open his mouth to take the spoonful.

"Meatloaf?" Rand echoed through a mouthful of the stuff. "How come you call it that? Is it like bread at all?"
He swallowed, and poked at the food still in his plate. "It doesn't look like bread..."
Owle smiled. "I've never made meatloaf before...I'm honestly not sure how to. What recipe do you use?"

((*headdesk* >_<" Gaia ate my post...))
"My own?" Jade looked all the more embaressed, and scooped another spoonful for Nikolai. "It's really nothing special... Just meat and ketchup."
The little Herald looked rather pleased with his dinner, eating merrily and eagerly awaiting the next spoonful.
Jade chuckled at the Herald's hearty appetite. "If you're all still hungry after wards I can see what else we have." Whether she was talking to the little Herald or their guests was uncertain. Though it seemed she was making a general statement to both.

Owle smiled. "Well, Rand seems to like it..."
And the little boy indeed was wolfing down his food like an animal. "So, if I could get it from you sometime, well...that would be great."
She glanced down at her plate, already heaped up more than she thought she could eat. "I think I'll be alright with what I have here. Thank you again, Jade."
"Mmmph, oo!"
Rand chimed in, attempting to say thanks with his mouthful.

"I'll write it down for you." She giggled at Rand's reaction, smiling warmly at them both. "I'm glad you both like it. Next time you come to visit I promise not to serve leftovers."
