Nienna turns the moment she heard her name, she knew it was Cabel. Shaking her head she frowns "I'm sorry Cabel, I have to do this..." taking a few steps backwards she screams when she feels a rip into the back of her leg. The pain was enough to make her hit the ground. She felt as if her whole leg had been ripped from her hip.
Looking over at her leg she pales when she see the paw. Eyes widen as she doesn't think about it trying to get away from the creature. She had to get away, she had to get out of the creature line of sight.
Kicking at the paw she forced herself to not scream again as the pain ranked through her body.

"Now, are those her footprints? Or someone else's?"
Cabel had paused briefly, crouching to try and examine a set of vague footprints when the scream tore though the forest. That scream could only belong to one person... and the realization was like a knife being plunged into his heart.
"Nienna..." His voice was a mere whisper, though his jaw clenched tightly as he took off at a run into the forest again. She needed him...and he wasn't there. Sure, it wasn't technically his fault, but his mind was neglecting to remind him of that right now. All he knew was that he had failed her when she needed him most...though instead of misery and self-pity, he felt only rage. Rage at himself for failing her...and rage at whatever had caused his sweet Nienna to scream...

Lhiannan was on her way back home. Now that the rain had stopped, the path was no longer blocked by the raging waters pouring out of the forest. The aura of the forest settled over her and she smiled. Aaah it was good to be home. Now to just find her well. She walked along quietly humming to herself, aware that beasties had their eyes on her as the made her way through the undergrowth. She wasn't worried. Many of the creatures her had tried to eat her before but none had ever succeeded. Somehow whenever they went to attack her, the moment they cam into contact with her, they suddenly collapsed. It was a mystery to her exactly why, but it made sense. Whatever had left her out her in this dangerous forest wouldn't leave her defenseless. Sometimes she even ate the little animals her razor sharp teeth pulling apart their raw flesh. They tasted quite horribly but luckily she didn't have the need to eat but occasionally. The euphoric feeling that came after they dropped dead of her touched filled her up. Her musings came to a halt as the path in front of her become muddy and swamp like. Not wanting to get even filthier, she changed her route, intending to go around it. As she headed deeper into the heart of the forest, strange new sounds began to assault her ears. What manner of beasts where these that made such strange noises. Her progress stopped and she stopped to listen to them. Still not afraid, only curious. To her left a bush rustled and she turned to look. "Hello?" she called out. It was quite annoying to stalked, it rather angered her. Seeing and hearing nothing more she took another few steps only to her the sounds again. She turned around, hands on her hips, eyes flaring with rage. "Come out here now." She stomped her foot in agitation.

The Creature hungrily paws at Nienna's leg, before snaring her ankle and starting to 'pull' it back towards the bush, unearthly like hissing is heard as it does so, followed by a contented growl.
---
Off in the bushes to Lhiannan' right, there is a rustling noise. Not long after, a small two legged bird appears, blinking at her and tilting it's head to the side.
"Krrkt..." It hisses at her, before revealing that it is actually not a bird, but an amalgamation of a bird and a lizard.

Nienna screams again as she kicks at the creature with her other foot. Turning she tries to grab at the roots of the nearest tree "LET ME GO!!!" kicking again her wings flutter as she tries to fight back. She knew if she got free she would be able to get away from whatever had her.
The problem was getting free, with the pain going through her leg.

"Get the hell away from her!"
A bright form streaked from the foliage and across the short clearing, headed straight for the pair. Pausing only long enough to take careful aim, Cabel swung his staff with all his strength at the beast's paw, using a sideways strike to avoid hitting Nienna as well.
"Nienna! As soon as it lets go, run! Get as far away from here as you can!"
His voice was deep and harsh, as it was all he could do to hold back a feral growl. This horrid thing dared to lay a paw on HIS Nienna and he fully intended to make it pay for such a crime. Hands clenched tightly around his staff, he continued striking the beast's arm and paw with repeated blows, hoping to force it to release his love.

An angry roar erupted from the bushes as the beast lifted it's paw, swiping at the offending blow, another paw shot out of the bushes, aiming to slam Cable hard in the chest, as the other moved for Nienna's leg again.

Lhiannan stared back at the bird like creature for several moments contemplating it. It didn't look like any bird she had ever met before, but then of course she'd never seen a half-bird half-lizard before. She thought it looked rather cute actually...perhaps it would make a good pet? "Here birdy birdy" she called to it.

"Krrkkkt... Hissssk..." The cockatrice puffed up, lizard tail flicking about as it's cold beady eyes stared down Lihannan. It rushed her, hissing angrily as it's territory had been disturbed by an interloper, and it made to drive it from around it's lair. "Krrrkkt! Krrrrkt!"

Cabel barely managed to bring up the staff to block the swipe when the second paw struck him square in the chest. Thrown backward, his back connected solidly with a nearby tree, knocking the breath from his lungs as pain shot up his spine. The male Fae fell to his knees in the dirt, gasping for air desperately. His free hand clutched his chest as he coughed out curses between ragged breaths.
"Nienna...hang on..."
Drawing on some hidden reserve of strength, Cabel staggered to his feet again, brandishing his staff.
"How about you leave the lady alone and take on someone who can fight back, tough guy...?" The mere sight of his beloved lying on the ground in pain and fear was enough to bring an unfamiliar red haze over Cabel's vision. The pure unbridled fury was unlike anything he'd ever felt before and he wasn't sure how to deal with it. Guardians help him, if he could tear the beast apart with his bare hands, he would have.

The creature hulked forwards, it's large shoulders becoming exposed from the bushes. Standing at about seven feet in height, it had a large bulky frame. It looked like an ape, but with bear claws and a small feline shaped head, not much larger than a lynx's.
It growled at Cabel, having wounded it's other prey.

Nienna pulls her leg up to her chest looking over the wound. It was pretty deep and bleeding badly. Coughing her eyes widen as she see the creature move out of the bushes. She had to bite down hard on her tongue just to stop the scream from escaping pass her lips.
Wincing she move back slowly only to grab at her leg again. She knew she needed to get out of the forest, this wound was far to deep. Looking up she coughs again "Cabel.."

Cabel wasn't sure whether to cower or laugh at the creature that emerged from the foliage.
Sure, it was huge...and ferocious...but that head? It was comically too small for its body; it looked as if something had hurriedly pieced together this beast...and none to well. Nevertheless, the thing had claws and strength...nothing to be laughing at when it was still five feet in front of you and furious.
Sidestepping, holding his staff out almost like a shield, Cabel quickly placed himself between the beast and Nienna. Flashes of red still plagued his vision as he kept his eyes on the monster and whispered back over his shoulder hurriedly. "Nienna? Sweetheart? Can you walk? I know it hurts, and I'm sorry, but we have got to get out of here...now. Just let me know if you can move on your own."
'Because if not, I'm going to have to figure out how to get you out of here myself...and that means I can't stay behind to cover you...'

Growling and hulking forwards on it's large forelegs, the creature growled and let out a loud angry cry. Quite ready to feed, and now the unwounded prey was getting in the way of the wounded prey!

Lhiannan waited to for the creature as it rushed at her, danger glinting in her eyes. When it came close enough, she deftly grabbed it around the neck, just as she had done hundreds of other times to small creatures such as this. She squeezed, cutting off its air supply as she drained the energy out of its body and into her own. A shiver ran up her spine and she shuddered as its life force filled her, revitalizing her own form. She tossed the creature away, still alive but just barely. "Bad pet" she told it, as she walked away, a new strength in her step, more determined than ever to make it home to her well.
