Yup, it'll be awfully tragic. Oh well, I hope Kaiba gives me a calico, I heart those!
Indeed.

My friend found a black cat today and was asking what to name it. Not that it was free to be reclaimed, nor would she be able to keep it even if it was. The first thing to pop out of my head was Salem, haha. It may be a bit of a cliché but I do like it.

I've always liked Malachi for black cats for some reason.

I like that name but I don't think there is anything about it that specifically makes me think "black" cat...other than it seems mostly black people have that name, but that'd be a racist reason to name a cat, hahahaha. I probably wouldn't ever want a black cat so that'd be moot for me. I'd get a black and white one, I'm not much for solid patterns ^_~.

I think for me it's because Malachi seems like such a mysterious, mature name for me, and black cats often seem the same way. XD Gosh, I hope it's not unconsciously racist on my part, though I doubt it, since I wasn't even aware Malachi was a primarily black name.

Well I've never known a Malachi who wasn't black, and it's usually more of the urban/lower class black families that use that name. You see A LOT of Malachi's on Maury, *chuckle.* Ok so I'm being consciously racist, but I'm half black so I can get away with it ^_~.
I don't think I've liked too many male black cats, I had a female black cat and she was awesome, but I don't think I'd intentionally get a female pet (she was in the family before I was). I just usually find male pets more personable.

Actually, come to think of it, I've never even met someone named Malachi. XD;; I don't even know where I've heard the name before. Oh, lucky you not having teh white guilt TM. I've never been able to find a difference in gender among pets, at least ones that are spayed or neutered. Granted, most of my pets have been female, but that is because my parents prefer females. From animals I've interacted with though, there are some females I love, some males I love, some females that I hate, and some males I hate. *shrug*

There's this cute little black boy with dreads (which I gotta say I don't often like, but sometimes they can be cute, particularly on certain kids) who goes to one of the schools I work at (they all blur, so I couldn't say which) who has that name. And then other than that it's pretty much Maury, hehehe. Which is weird in that it's a Hebrew name, there aren't very many black Jews. Muslims yes, Jews no.
For the most part male pets (particularly cats, this is less so with dogs) tend to have more personality, they are a little less high maintenance - like men in general, they are more affectionate. Considering cats aren't the most affectionate things to begin with - which is fine, I prefer independent pets, still sometimes I'd like to get the feeling they care about "family" - I like this. Male cats are also better at taking abuse, which is an awful way to put it, but I can totally rough house with male cats whereas females are just like, umm no, thank you, you are musing my fur. But it's not a 100% thing - like with people. My friends cat Micah, I swear if I didn't know it was a boy I'd think it was a girl. He's just so prissy, he carries himself more like a female cat, and he's colder.

I love dreadlocks. <3 Wow, that is kind of weird. It's a pretty name, either way though. XD Hmm, I've never noticed such a thing. They way you're describing male cats reminds me a lot of my kitty, Shadow, who is female, and partly like my other female cat. (she has both the layed-backness with rough housing and such, but the prissiness as well) And then my friend's male cat sounds a lot like how you describe females. They're just all so awesome and cuddly though. X3

I'm more a fan of soft flowing locks myself, but on rare occasions I have liked them. It is a pretty name, I do agree on that.
Yea, well there are exceptions, just in general I tend to see it more the one way. I mean I had a female cat who liked rough housing, but not particularly with me, which is what I want. She also wasn't the cuddling type. And my friends female cat was pretty chill and cuddly, though she wasn't very playful. And just around the neighborhood the male cats are less skittish and more likely to let strangers come pet them. Although this one cat is WAY skittish, though shim's calming down a bit. I haven't been able to get close enough to discern gender yet, but that one I'm sure isn't a case of male/female but I case of it only has one eye. So it's depth perception and the like has got to be skewed, and especially with the family just moving into this neighborhood, adjusting to a new environment with that handicap can be hard. Shim's getting more comfy though, expanding it's territory and all that.

Don't get me wrong; I prefer soft flowing locks, but dread locks have their own kind of appeal for me. ^^ Hmm, nope, still seems about even when I think back on all the cats I've known. But damn, I wish there were some kitties in my neighborhood that were non-skittish enough to come up and say hi. XD
