I always forget to turn in my library books on time, but I get them in. The most I've owed the library is like $5

I return my books on time. I kind of work at my public library as a volunteer for community service hours (I need them for school), so I'm pretty much surrounded by books. XD

I usually get my books back in on time. I tend to feel horribly apologetic & guilty if I don't.

I try renewing, and the book I need more time on is already on hold for someone else. But since working and paychecks, I spend more time at Borders than the library. They shouldn't put armchairs in if we're not meant to read in them!

I haven't ever paid a fine. I've never recieved one. Not that I haven't had overdues, I have, loads of times. But my libraries are good, they don't fine you unless it's been like 6 months or that you've lost them.
Here's a little story, I guess it fits into this thread
When I was in primary school, I lived in the school library. And this one year, in a certain period of time, I had an overdue that I couldn't find, so, I wasn't able to get anymore books out. And so, I would start walking out of the library with books without putting them through the computer. But, I would never bring them back everytime, so, I start getting a little collection of books that were placed in random places around my room and the rest of the house. Then one day my mother did a little clean up in my room and noticed I had all these school library, like twenty-five to thirty of them. And she asked me about them, and I told her the truth. And, well, my mother was a teacher's aid at my school, and, so, decided to take them in and explain to the Librarian about it. Normally I would have been scared out of my mind, because the librarian is scary as hell when she yells, and she used to yell alot. But she was away on holiday at the time, so, my mother just spoke with the temp-librarian. I was afraid, that she'd get told when she got back. If she was or not, she didn't say anything to me about it. sweatdrop

I've never had a library fine before, to be completely honest. I rather obsessively keep track of when books are due and if I realize I won't be at the library the day their due or I don't think I'll finish on time I'll go renew a full week before necessary.
But $9... that's a lot. I can only imagine that they make it so expensive not just to prevent overdue books but also to help fund the library its self.
