Thankies. Having the Dullahan to research off of is going to make this a lot easier than just hunting down the headless horseman. XD
Thanks, Rogue Dragon!

I have a concept in mind now, but you see there are quite a few different variations of it. It sometimes has different names, different abilities, different meanings but it's really all the same symbol at it's core. A black dog or a black apparition in the form of dog. Gwyllgi (dog of darkness if I remember correctly) I think is one name, Grim is another, some just call it the 'black dog'.
So I was perhaps wondering, that instead of just choosing one myth about it, I take them all, toss it in together and write up something myself. Like, I'd write a story about the death of the black dog and instead of showing off the myth, I'd give links to every single actual myth I can find about the creature. I realize perhaps this isn't allowed and if it's not then that's okay... but if it's not should I just go about and pick one single myth about the black dog?
Also, out of curiousity... I've been thinking about a death backstory just for the sake of it and because the black dog's eyes are different in many stories (someone who's helping me said that some say they were yellow, red ... green... such and such) change, I was perhaps wondering to myself how I might pick a color. In one thing I found on the Grim, it said that some people might even die from making eye contact with him for he is a sign of death. I've been debating on pure black eyes, wolf-ish eyes (black and yellow) and then yesterday I came up with a new idea: blind. I just wanted to make sure that would be okay... like I have a good reason for it... the reason I came up with yesterday is something like:
'The apparition began to loose it's powers from lack of belief and as it was fading it decided it did not wish to die the death it had always represented, so it chose to be reincarnated as a human and see what it could become, however in order to do so it needed energy. The last of it's energy was in it's eyes and so to reincarnate itself, it gave up it's sight.'
Sort of thing. Would that be okay as a summary of death and reasoning for blindness?

Some ideas Zan-chan, but please remember that what I post is not official.
1) Have the black dog exist in many places while you focus on one of the black dogs that existsed. -This would mean that all the different black dog myths together would define the species. That is, they myths are stories of specific black dogs that live in different places, so instead of combining myths you are defining the myth. At the same time you can choose specifics for yours from the variations within that species.
2)Um, I think the incarnating one's self might be infringing on the basic premise of the shop, but if it is noticed the first fa'e (I can't remember her name.) is trying to summon a spirit to reincarnate. The dog might use the power in it's eyes to ensure it is the one reincarnated.

I don't understand your second statement. Aren't Fa'e myths reborn? So why would it be infringement if the Grim was reborn? He has to die, except he's just ensuring he'll be reborn via loss of the power in his eyes. O.o neh?

He has to die, except he's just ensuring he'll be reborn via loss of the power in his eyes. O.o neh? They might be myth and legends reborn but they are reborn for a purpose. Not just for their power, there is a need for the second chance at life besides chosing to be reborn again. It's not just reincarnating - that's like a cycle you follow after you die and such - the Fa'e are being reborn through Airi again as they once were to an extent. It's not something they just choose 'well, okay.. that sucked I died.. now I'm just going to be reborn and such' .. there needs to be reason. But, if he would be kind of 'bargaining' his life to be reborn with the price of his eyes that might be a nice little twist. xD; 'hey can I get this second chance to? I'll pay you 8D'

Mmm well that works because somehow I want him blind. It doesn't really matter how it happens.
So if ... like... I could do something like... him not being happy with being a symbol of death and as he fades he looks back and wishes he had another chance to be something better then that... and Airi gives him a chance and he bargains with his eyesight? Would that work?

Are any of the current or currently in quest mode fa'e mute?
because that's a pretty big part of the character I'm creating.

the legend info I found says that he doesn't speak unless he speaks the name of the person who's going to die.

Suraj will be questing to get his voice back ^^ Tis a rather big part of being the firebird, after all, with his pretty birdsongs.
I wouldn't see it as a problem, but maybe PM Vash to be sure? I think she'd be okay with it, but just check ^^

I think that might work, Zan. It's a neat twist. But you don't actually need to give a magical reason for his loss of eyesight. You could say that because he was a dog spirit in his past life when he became a human there was conflict between his "dog sight" and his "human sight" which then lead to him eventually losing his sight. ^^

I could say that too... but I'm a person of reason. xD So if my idea is allowed, then that's what I'd do. But uhm... still... I don't know what to do about the different variations of the Grim? Rogue's idea was fairly good but I'm not sure how to pull it off or if it'd be alright? I've always been confused when it came to the myth and history part of my quests. ><
