Oh. So he did come up here often. Maybe it was possible to get over your fear of heights by climbing tall trees all the time? Somehow it made sense, somehow it didn't. Either way, now that she knew that (which should've been obvious by the scars on the tree, but this is Vidya we're talking about), she was twice as determined to get over this newfound fear of heights. At the mention of the view, she considered looking over...but then she had no choice, as his soft fingers were moving her head for her. Oh lucky day, less work she had to do!
However, the sight stole her breath away...the expanse of sea, the various ships in the harbour, the buildings and hints of other trees...it was beautiful. Simply beautiful. Its sight cancelled out her fear of heights, and her body relaxed, her eyes wide in wonder now, instead of fear. "Oh...WOW! Its so pretty!" She only happily gasped out, finding herself carelessly tossing her fears aside, pulling her one leg over to join the other, sitting down on the branch like Tybalt was. The funny part was she really didn't even seem to notice that she'd even done so.
Her lips curling into a fond smile, she turned her head to the side to look at her Captain. "I can see why you come up here a lot! Thank you so much for showing me...!" In a bold move, she shuffled closer to him and lightly hugged his arm in thanks. She wasn't about to hug him properly in a tree! So this would just have to go. Coo'ing happily she let go and turned her gaze back to the bay.

The smile Tybalt gave his enraptured first mate exuded a warmth few, if any, knew the surly pirate was capable of. He knew his first mate would appreciate the gorgeous view--and gorgeous it was, indeed--and had made the decision awhile ago to bring her here, to a place that he held dear. Was Tybalt learning to share? It was doubtful he would willingly give his treasured possessions away, but this...this he could do.
He didn't flinch away as he normally might have when Vidya hugged him, instead relaxing, a wing moving to wrap around her. The gesture was quickly becoming familiar to him, and would likely be something he would only do to Vidya. "I'm glad y' like it," he replied, sea-blue eyes turning towards the bay and all the little ships that populated it.
Tybalt was quiet for a long moment, relishing the quiet companionship and the sight below. "Someday," he said, "that'll be us down there. It'll be us in a ship, a ship've our own. Just you 'n me...and Donny and the giraffe-boy, o' course," he quickly added.

Vidya completely forgot about the distance to the ground by this point; it was almost like looking out of a leafy window of a tall house rather than sitting on a tree branch that was lord knows how far up from the ground. That, combined with Tybalt's wing around her once more, was more than enough reassurance she wasn't about to fall. Infact, she had relaxed completely by this point.
And really, Vidya couldn't remember a time when she was comfortable with sitting in silence.
She reluctantly tore her gaze from the bay to her Captain when he finally spoke, watching him for the duration of a few words before looking back down at the bay. "That sounds so nice..." She breathed out. Vidya had never actually gone sailing (well, as far as she can remember anyway), but the idea of being able to go far out into the water...god, that was close to heaven for her.
"Giraffe-boy?" She repeated, looking at him again curiously. SHE knew a giraffe boy...! But that was so long ago! What was his name again...? Oh yeah! "You know Sylvester?" Really thats the only Giraffe boy she'd ever met! "He's part of the crew too? Yay, he's so nice!" She commented happily, pressing her hands together for a single clap.

Tybalt grinned indulgently at his exuberant crewmate. He was much more at ease with her vast amounts of energy than he was with anyone else's--most people just tended to annoy the hell out of him, but Vidya tended to happily violate almost every constant in his life. He didn't mind it...but he didn't notice that she did it, either. Things he would never allow from other people went unnoticed and unminded when she did them.
Vidya, it seemed, could do no wrong in his eyes. He was blissfully unaware of this fact.
"Aye, he ain't a bad sort...that neck o' his'll come in handy, someday. Stick 'im in th' crow's nest an' he'd see fer miles, I'd think." Niceness was never a factor when he chose people to serve on his small and as-of-yet useless crew. He had chosen Vidya because of their shared sense of adventure and love for treasures, and Donny simply because he was one big sparkly himself. He'd find a use for the boy, someday, but for the moment he was happy to think of ways to obtain the golddust that seemed to linger on his skin. Skinning him didn't seem to be an option, unfortunately; Vidya was far too attached to her brother for that.

As a toddler, she never noticed the way her antics would slip past him, while others who did the same thing got repremanded for it. She was too busy being herself to notice something as subtle as that, and she merely passed it off any incident she did manage to notice as an accident, pure and simple. Now that she'd grown up, it was likely she'd start to notice that change in him a little more; but then again, she'd only been a kid for one day; an opportunity for her to notice had yet to present itself just yet!
Vidya's gaze out onto the horizon seemed absolutely filled with wanderlust. Right now, for some reason, she just couldn't wait to get herself on a ship and start traveling...and for a moment, she seemed impatient for that day to come. She wanted to be out on the water right now.
In fact, so engrossed was she in her own thoughts, as strangely impatient as they were; Vidya was hardly an impatient person...just a little persuasive; she almost missed most of what he was saying about Sylvester. She did catch his last sentence though; something about a crows nest. Who were they talking about again...? Oh yes, Sylvester! "Oh...Oh yeah, that'd be a great place for him, I agree!" Tybalt was right; with that long neck, he WOULD be able to see a lot more than anyone else. And he was also right; If he even tried to skin Donny, she'd most definately throw a fit.
"But Captain..." She murmured curiously, as a thought suddenly hit her. "Do you think just the...four...of us can man an entire ship...?" She's dragged her gaze back to him, her stare curious. From watching her pirate movies to listening to the stories, it was obvious that WAY more than four people were needed to sail a ship...

Of course she agreed--it was a good idea! And he was the CAPTAIN and what choice did she have and why, why did her approval please him so much? It was HIS decision, no one else's, but he found her opinion...useful? Wanted, perhaps? Wasn't that the first mate's role, to offer helpful advice, to back up their Captain? It was something to think on later, certainly, when he wasn't smiling at the look on Vidya's face. He often found himself staring at the wide open sea exactly the same way. Sylvester was not the only one he had rightly placed, it seemed.
"Course I do!" he barked sternly, with a bit of disapproval. How could she go from approval to this seeming lack of confidence in him, in them all, so easily? "We could do it with half the crew we've got now! Hell, I could bloody well do it m'self!" Well, he probably couldn't...but if the words got his point across, so much the better. "'Sides, I'll recruit more crewman eventually. Gotta be picky 'bout these things, y' can't very well hire someone y' don't trust, else they're likely t' turn on ya." He felt the need to explain this to Vidya especially, because she seemed to trust EVERYONE.

Vidya flinched as he barked his answer, involuntarily shifting her weight on the branch to lean slightly away from him. She hadn't meant to spurr his disapproval, but she found herself instantly wishing she could reverse time. People had given her that tone before as a toddler; though mainly it was from Teivel, but thats beside the point; but that never, ever phased her this much. However, hearing his disapproving tone, well...she experienced a rather foreign feeling, something along the lines of shame.
"I'm Sorry...! I just...I thought...well.." She paused, no longer looking at him. Her gaze was lowered, finding her knees fascinating at this point. Nah, it probably wouldn't help the situation much if she questioned further...she wanted to get rid of this terrible feeling she was having, and fast! "...nevermind." She murmured 'just forget it' shortly after, though under her breath.
She listened to him in silence, giving nothing but a nod to signify that she heard, and that she understood how careful one has to be at this point. Vidya didn't feel like talking anymore; she didn't want to say something wrong again by accident...so the nymph figured it would be best to just not talk at all for a bit.

Tybalt felt a pang of...he didn't even know what. Guilt? Shame, maybe? He hadn't truly meant to push Vidya away, but he was confident in his confidence and it had seemed important, at the time, that he get that point across. He hadn't taken Vidya's "girly" sensitivity into account, however. Obviously.
A darker part of him reveled in his first mate's silent submission, utterly pleased that she proved to be so malleable, so easy to cow. He knew it would take little more than a harsh word to make her do what he wanted and really, isn't that what he was after? To rule supremely, be it from respect or fear? His blue eyes darkened as he thought upon it, his former grin turning almost sinister as he took in Vidya's subdued form. It would take very little, at that point, for his long-buried instincts to come to the fore. If he were a weaker person, he would let these odd, though familiar, feelings control him. It would be so much easier to let himself fall back into that tried and true pattern, wouldn't it?
Tybalt, as he delighted in proving through words and deed time and time again, was hardly weak.
He bit back a growl as he fought himself down, shaking his head to clear it of traitorous thoughts. This was Vidya! He didn't need to invoke fear of him in her to get her to follow him, to respect him--she already did! The wing closest to Vidya extended towards her, soft, multi-colored feathers brushing her outside arm. He sighed through his nose as he strained to calm himself. A red-dusted hand reached towards her, tucking a stray wisp of white and blue hair behind a pointed ear, gently trailing along dove-white feathers.
"Yer entitled..." he started slowly, pondering how to phrase his words, "t' think. T' speak yer mind. T' offer opinions...t' ask when y' don't understand. Else who'd stop me from makin' mistakes, aye?" It was as close to an apology as he had ever come. He couldn't bring himself to utter the words...but he could do this.

While Vidya wasn't looking at him, she could feel a change in the air; she could feel his sinister grin without having to look at him. Needless to say, that scared her more than his bark of disapproval. A shiver danced up her spine and down her limbs, and out of the shiver rose a stronger feeling; something she couldn't place, but guessed it was disappointment mingled with anger. It crept into the back of her mind, it momentarily tensed the muscles in her arms, however hidden by her haori sleeves. Some things never change... Came a murmuring voice in her head; but one that was not her own. At least, it didn't sound like her.
Wasn't it a bad thing to be hearing voices...? Especially in your head?
So distracted was she with the dual-toned voice that she didn't register that the sinister air had been faught away, nor did she recognize the fact that his wing had extended, that his feathers were brushing against her arm. What she did register, however, was the fact he was now reaching out for her; she registered this with a start and a small gasp, slightly flinching away from his hand at first..
..That was, of course, until he tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. Vidya visibly relaxed, turning her head towards him hesitantly, slowly...but even that was paused as his soft fingers trailed over her own feathers; a motion which made her wings twitch underneath his touch out of instinct. What had once sent her into hysterical laughter now made her tremble with mild euphoria, and if she could melt, she would have; the tale had to bite her lips to keep from squeeing. Obviously he had something to say, and she didn't want to cut him off by making happy mewls.
Vidya tried to listen to him as best as she could; but in the end, she only caught the gist of it; he was apologizing! In his own way of course...but she'd long accepted there'd be no straight foreward 'Sorry's (that one time with the monster in the basement didn't count, because he was forced to), and she'd also come to understand what his idea of an apology was. Unable to surpress her lingering feeling to squee, she did so then before she even thought to actually reply to him, though the noise was fairly soft.
"..Aye, Cap'n." Vidya giggled softly, obviously back to her old self. "...And...Thanks." Now she tilted her head to actually face him, her happy smile returning to her lips. The sinister air was gone, the voice was gone...and everything seemed right again in the world...but it was a little better than before, she could still feel the tickling euphoria from her wings a little bit.

Tybalt found himself both amused and entranced by Vidya's reaction to his fingers. It certainly didn't feel as good as Vidya was making it out to be, to him...although he wasn't quite sure. It wasn't as if he allowed people to touch him so intimately, if at all, although he had to admit that he certainly hadn't minded Vidya toying with his feathers earlier. It was easier for him to trust her--she had wings of her own, after all, regardless of how small they were, and she knew enough not to be rough with such sensitive things as feathers. Vidya, it seemed, even in growth, remained one of Tybalt's few weaknesses simply due to the sheer amount of trust he gave to her.
Blue eyes met white as Vidya's smile proved infectious--Tybalt found himself returning it well before he was aware of it. His hand stopped wandering, moving to settle almost hesitantly on Vidya's far shoulder, arm stiff as if uncertain of its place there. "Anytime," he murmured, gaze skating back to the bay and the ships that populated it. He was forgiven, and he was willingly touching someone, and he was feeling remarkably at peace. Rather than feeling weak like he knew he should be, he felt...almost happy.
Life was good, at the moment.

Vidya's feathers had always been a weakness to her in some form her entire life, however short it was. As a toddler, they were enough to make her shriek with laughter from the tickled feeling she received; and now, it seemed, they made her melt with glee. Right now though, she had to admit she was thankful for what her wings did to her now; he seemed happier again after he watched her struggle to avoid her squeeing.
If it were possible, her own smile brightened upon seeing him smile again. She couldn't place why, but seeing that was more important to her than anything else right now...and it felt good to see that smile on his lips. Since she'd tilted her head to look at him, she'd seen his arm, as stiff as it was, reach around her; therefore when she felt his hand on her shoulder, it didn't startle her as much as it normally would have, if at all. Smiling still, the blue girl shifted her weight to lean the slightest bit towards him, instead of away like she'd been when he scolded her. She clasped her hands together, and trapped them between her knees, dragging her gaze back to the bay as well.
After a few moments of Silence, Vidya dragged her gaze to her hands, careful to not look at the ground below. "If I..." She started at length, her voice almost distant and wondering. "Well, if I ever needed to find you, I could look here, right?" Pausing for a moment, she blinked dumbfoundedly when she finally seemed to realize what she'd asked him. Her white eyes widened for a moment, and she held up her hands a little bit. "Oh wait...y-you don't have to answer that! I...don't know why I asked anyway. But you don't have to answer! Just...forget I said anything." Giggling nervously, she glanced from him and out to the bay again, chewing lightly on her bottom lip. What the heck made her ask that?

Vidya seemed happy again, and that made him happy. It was an odd feeling, much different than his usual anger or apathy, and he wasn't quite sure how he should feel about it. Of course he had felt happiness before--the shinies in his trunk and the knife hanging from his belt had certainly put large enough smiles on his face--but he couldn't recall ever allowing someone's mood to affect him. It was different, and though he was happy at the moment, he wasn't sure he liked it. It was something he'd have to think about...later, when he wasn't perched in a tree with his best friend. First mate. Whatever.
He turned to look at her as she started speaking again, brows drawing down in confusion. What, indeed? It was certainly an odd question, and right out of the blue, too. "'S alright, Vid...I suppose y' could find me here, if 'm not in th' backyard. 'M more likely to be at home somewhere than out...got a project brewin'." He smiled knowingly, with a hint of pride. "Why d'ye ask?"

Aww, so he wasn't going to forget she said anything. Darnit! Though a part of her seemed thoroughly pleased that he did answer her; and she wasn't sure if this part of her was a good thing or not. She recalled that disappointment and anger she felt earlier, which was not her own. Brushing that aside and figuring it wasn't important to dwell on right now...maybe some other time.
"Oh...Alright then! Thanks for telling me." She still had a bit of a sheepish tone to her voice, but like always, it was mingled with her bubbly, normal self. "A project? Thats so cool! Was that what you were doing before I pounced on you? Can I ask what the project is?" Yay rapidfire questions! She hadn't meant to; but old habits die hard, and she was rather excited and very curious about this project thing. "Ack..." Vidya flinced internally; he definately wasn't letting this drop right away! "I uh...I have no idea why I asked, actually...Notta single clue. I wish I knew though...So ah...Sorry for sounding weird." The tale then bowed her head a little bit, a small motion to go along with her apology.

Hmm, not only did she bounce back fast, she did it in a major way. Tybalt well-knew of his first mate's exuberance and although it wasn't an aspect he himself harbored, he certainly didn't begrudge her her absolute zest for life. It wasn't an attitude one might associate with a dread and fearsome pirate (and Tybalt resolved to do his best to encourage both things in Vidya, though he thought her incapable), but Tybalt forgave her because she was a girl, and he had long ago dubbed her attitude "girly."
It still took him surprise sometimes when he was faced with it, however.
"'S alright, Vid, 'm used to ye soundin' weird," he replied with a chuckle that sounded somewhere between nervous and indulgent. That, at least, was true. He didn't expect normalcy from anyone in his life, so he was never disappointed when they acted out of sorts. "Aye, 'twas...'m not tellin' ye what it was yet. It'll be a surprise. Ye'll find out soon enough, I'll wager." A sly grin flitted about his lips and his eyes sparkled with secrecy and mischief. He had a grand plan in mind, but he wouldn't reveal it just yet, even though he knew how excited Vidya would be to hear it. No matter--he hoarded secrets like he did shinies, and this one would be well-protected.

Vidya tried her hardest to look hurt - really she did. But unfortunately, she failed miserably; and she too chuckled, though she was still feeling rather sheepish. "Do I really sound that strange?" She looked as though she were mentally sweatdropping; she hadn't realized she always sounded weird! When he went on to refuse the information of his 'project', she looked like she were about to protest; secrets induced curiousity, and curiousity had a way of tormenting the cat. The blue girl opened her mouth to make some form of reply to him, however...
In that moment, something from inside her sidebag gave a rather loud, pleased-sounding shriek, though the pitch of the cry was muffled by the bag it was in; and to top it all off, it sounded more like a broken artificial intelligence machine than anything; which would be close to the truth. The sound caught Vidya completely off-guard, and uttering a surprised cry instead of a sentence, she startled and clung onto the nearest thing out of instinct; that thing being Tybalt. She didn't seem to realize it was him that she'd clung onto, since her gaze was on her sidebag. Her heart was racing from the surprise, and it took her a moment to realize exactly what it was. Well, that and the creature that made the noise wiggled out of her bag. Yupei the faulty communicator chirped happily, oblivious to having scared the daylights out of Vidya.
"...Yupei...~!" She groaned out, watching the communicator as it flittered off on its own while chirping some incoherent babbles that sometimes sounded like 'home, home home!'. "Stupid thing scared me..." Instantly relaxing, she sighed for a moment and closed her eyes, rested her head on the thing she had clung onto...until she realized who it was she had clung on to. With a gasp, her white eyes widened, and she instantly retracted her hands, pressing both of them between her knees. "Ack...! Sorry about that. I didn't mean to." Gee, she'd done a lot of things today that she didn't mean to. While she wasn't embarassed about what she'd done, she was, however, a little afraid he'd scold her like he had earlier; and that just wasn't comething she wanted.
