I happened to find one of my few (and a really cool) bookmark yesterday. It features a young Johnny Depp looking over lowered shades and the words "I like to read almost as much as I like Johnny Depp." I was at the library one time, wearing my Edward Scissorhands shirt, and a college-aged woman came up to me and told me that she really liked my shirt. Later, as I was standing in line to check out, she came up to me again, said "this is for you," and handed me the bookmark. It looks homemade, so that was pretty cool of her. I have no idea who she was, but now I have a really cool bookmark. Of course, I seem to have misplaced it since I found it yesterday ...

The only homemade bookmark I have been given was from my best friend earlier this year. It's rather simply made, but I treasure it. I was spazzing though because it stuck out of my manga on the shelf and Mom placed heavy books on top of my mangas, bending the edges. I managed to smooth it out and replaced it as my bookmark for book 3 of Harry Potter. The hardcover books are too large to have room on the shelf to stack other books on top of them so now it is safe.

I make homemade bookmarks, so I use thoughs. If those in other books I'm currently reading, then I use pieces of paper, rubberbands, a paper clip, or if it's hard back and has a paper covering, I use that.

I heart my book-marking habits.
When I don't want to put money in the bank - to keep some cash around - I'll usually put it in a few certain books (keeps me from loosing it in a file or in the pile of papers on my desk). One of my jobs pays me in cash once a month, so sometimes I'll put part of a month's pay in a book. The other day, I wanted a couple dollars, so I opened A Child's Anthology of Poetry, and what should fall out? A ten, two ones, and a one hundred dollar bill. xd So now I have an extra hundred bucks that I didn't know about.

I used money once, but someone took it...

Drowtung I have some storebought ones, but most of the time its whatever I can find. Often random tickets, pieces of paper, receipts. That sort of thing. if it doesn't mar the book in anyway, I'll use it. That's basically what I do.

A lot of the books I read have bookmarks already in them, because I have an extended family who all read a LOT and pass books around from person to person, so I'll find tissues, train tickets, shopping lists, and all sorts of things. I just use those and then leave them in the book for the next person who reads it. xd I also once had an unfortunate experience with a used copy of Jane Eyre -- instead of slips of paper or tissues, it contained a very large, flat, dead spider. Didn't help that I was reading in bed with the book held up, so that it fell on my face. gonk

One book I borrowed from the library once had a pressed spider...I mean, I've heard of dried and pressed flowers, but a spider? I didn't even see how it was possible...but the proof WAS staring me back...

Fezzik999 Awesome. I don't use bookmarks, usually I dog-ear the books. Heh... I used money once, but someone took it... Yeah, I always check now, before I lend out my books. sweatdrop Lineth I also once had an unfortunate experience with a used copy of Jane Eyre -- instead of slips of paper or tissues, it contained a very large, flat, dead spider. Didn't help that I was reading in bed with the book held up, so that it fell on my face. gonk Eck! Oh wow, that must have been so gross! The worst that's ever happened to me is finding a squished lizard between pages, but it didn't fall on me. eek
