Utakan Lord, am I a one-woman converting machine? XD Gracious. You really are. You got me to give PotP a chance, and also the one who in part inspired me to become a metalhead. It is rather frightening, but awesome nonetheless.

I'm dressed as a Slytherin student in celebration for the 7th book coming out, but I can see where you get the Elphaba thing from. I think it's the hair.
I like debating. Though I admit that I tend to get too "passionate" and I can get mad easily if I'm really into the subject. I try and keep my mind straight, and if the debate's online, I will leave the debate alone until I'm calm so I don't go off.

I thiink I may have come up with a theory on why Raoul is considered a fop. Straight from Leroux, Chapter 2, The New Margarita pg 18 in my copy. Gaston Leroux "The shyness of the sailor lad- I was almost saying his innocence- was remarkable. He seemed to have but just left the woman's apron-strings. As a matter of fact, petted as he was by his two sisters and his aunt, he had retained from this purely feminine education manners that were almost candid and stamped with a charm that nothing yet had been able to sully. He was a little over twenty-one years of age but looked eighteen. He had a small, fair mustache, beautiful blue eyes and a complexion like a girl's." Perhaps people read this description and thought of Raoul as a girly-man because of it this would then lend to being a fop in a totally unbaised view. Just tossing my opinion in the ring.

Well, it's not the appropriate definition of a fop. A fop would be more like Phoebus from The Hunchback of Notre Dame (the book). He was a womanizer (oddly, people accuse Raoul of being a "playa" when all evidence is to the contrary, he is very uch a gentleman) and showed off his position as Captain and his wealth as means of attracting girls.

Basically my friend says the phrase 'Constantine is a girly man!' in a really retarded voice, while doing a superhero pose. Anyway, yeah. Raoul, a 'playa'? Hahaha! Erm...yes. He was quite a gentleman. If only normal men existed in our lifetime...eh...

It has to do with parents' obsessions with treating them like they were the center of the universe when they were small. As they get older, they expect everyone to treat them the same. That is not to say that nice guys don't exist anymore. It just takes a bit of patience to find them.

That's not to say that I don't have friends who are guys, but still. And most of the guys around here are total morons. Well, there is a better word to describe them, but I don't think I should use it.

As I've said before, in the age the book was set in, men were more effeminite than they are now. Weeping openly was considered normal, and men, if they wanted to attract women, were more "chivalrous." That isn't to say there weren't jerks or rude men. Even Philippe had some faults, though he was Raoul's older brother.
PoF: I've been here almost 18, and I've seen plenty. Personally, dating isn't on my to-do list, so I don't make an effort to snag me anything right now.

Would you believe 6th graders are dating at my school? It's creepy I tell ya. Well, since I'll be gone from there this year, it won't freak us out as much, but still. 6th graders! ::shudders:: Basically my to-do list is the sole thing of passing math this year.

Indeed. I've been here for a little over 18 years and I've seen some cool, nice guys.
But believe me, at 14 it's terribly hard to find a good guy your own age. I was lucky to find one...only then he realized he was gay and we broke up. But otherwise, in my early to mid teens, nice guys seemed to be an extremely rare luxury.
