Okay I have only seen the anime, but I think I have a good amount to say about the silhouette in the door way. I believe the person to actually be Nyu but that she has gained much of Lucy's memory. If you notice there is at least two times when Nyu has memories of the past (the day Lucy and Kouta went to the zoo, she remember them spalshing water on eachother at the river, and the night on the train when when Lucy killed Kouta's family, she remembers him scream at her to stop), so that means that she is starting to remember at least some things from the past. Though there are two time Nyu remembers Kouta screaming at Lucy to stop. Nana senses Lucy the first time Nyu remembers but the second time Nana doesn't. Lucy is gone because of the horns both breaking off. The symbolism with the music box and the clock also leads me to believe it is Nyu. For those who said stuff about if it were Nyu she would have just burst in; well Lucy's/Nyu's body would be extremely fatigued if it were right after what had just happened. If she had gained much of Lucy's memory I think she would be less likely to be the same as before. If it was Nyu then Nana wouldn't have sensed her and Nyu actually had long hair until she cut it off. So the long hair thing doesn't really make sence with the timeline, but the way Kouta, Yuka, Mayu, and Nana are acting it seems like quite a bit of time has pasted since the big battle. So maybe her hair grew back. No matter what, I say it is Nyu but I believe she has at least gained pieces of Lucy's memory.

I think it's Nyu personally. The clock/music box symbolism spells it all out. Also, the thought of Nyu dying would destroy my world.

It's Nyu, no doubt. Her horns are gone, and the manga explained that that means she can never use her vectors again. She also did live with them in the manga. The whole clock idea left me in complete awe, such symbolism! Even though this anime was a lot simpler than the manga, I was impressed with the ending. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a second season though, because it sure left a lot of holes in the anime. What about the evil director guy? Not to mention the two characters left out of the anime, the diaper chick (her name escapes me,) and Anna, probably the most important diclonius born.

I say its Nyu. No, not Lucy. Nyu. It ties in perfectly with the manga.

In the end wen the box stopped(Lucys favorite object) and the clock started runnin(Nyuus favorite object) it signified that Lucys time with Kouta is over and now Nyuus relationship wiv Kouta properly begins. Therefore da person behind da door was Nyuu ,just my opininon

I'd like to think it's Nyuu, but the idea of introducing a new character would be pretty nifty, in my opinion.

...The ending is what really made me like this anime. Yes, I loved it ever since the first episode...but the ending was the thing that made me say to myself, "Yes, this is the absolute best series on the f**king planet--none compare to it."
I think the main point of the ending was to make us think--kind of like the House Of Mirth. The silhouette could be Nyuu...or it could just be someone at the door. There was a time I even thought the figure was Nozomi, after I had read the part in the manga where she comes in. o.O You never know...
There was one theory that I found really sweet, and that I sort of adopted as my own. When the girl appeared at the door, the clock started again. The girl was Nyuu, and the clock's working signified the start of Nyuu's life, no longer troubled with the murderous Diclonius instinct. You know, a "happily ever after" story.

Dyclonius If it was Lucy, Don't you think Nana would have been able to sense her? Remember her horn was shot off, and from the looks of it, both seemto be gone. When the horns are removed, so they say, Lucy would get weaker. Maybe there wasn't enough power for Nana to pick up. Plus, Lucy didn't have to intent to kill Nana this time around.

Judging from the shape of the person it looks like a girl. I think its lucy. They make it seem like she dies but I'm having a hard time believe that Lucy just dies. It takes a lot more then bullets to kill her I think. I mean she totally whipped Nana and was doing prettty well with Mariko and Mariko was crazy so yeah I believe that Lucy survived and came back.

I say it's not Lucy, but NYU. Throughout the whole series, it showed Nyu's obsessive fascination to the clock inside Kohta's house... And it just so happens that the clock that was broken the whole series, starts working again? And If you look, the person doesn't have horns. Lucy got both of hers blown off... but that doesn't mean she dies right? She could just be blown into her Nyu state. Then again, I could be wrong about the whole dieing thing. Maybe she was converted to a human by having both her horns blown off. Orrrrr of course, I could be going on about things being so ridiculous that hardcore Elfen Lied fans would call me and idiot sweatdrop haha. But yeah... this is just my thoughts.
