"Thah fuh uh... up," Sid said.
He could close his mouth enough to make the right noise, but every time that brought that nasty underbite of his up a little too close. Probably not as close as it seemed from the corner of his eye, but still he kept flinching every time he made the effort.
"Ah unno ih ahl evah 'e abul tah halk righ'."
Another accidental t made him go saw far as to tilt his head up slightly... if he poked out his own eye he'd know it. He had to get over that.

Alec imwardly grimaced at the last bit Sid had spoken, regretfully feeling pity for the man. He didn't have to say it but they both most likely knew already that he'd never be able to speak like a normal human being ever again. It was times like these that Alec began to go so far as to resent those with facial structures intact.
"Meh... Pehple'll unehshtand'." He didn't know what else to say. he was somehow finding it harder to comfort such an older person, knowing they were smarter and more wise to accept something so stupidly simple as 'It'll be ok'. Although some people needed to hear something of the sort, Sid didn't seem the type to be bothered with optimism.

"Ah..." Sid trailed off, deciding what he wanted to say was too complicated to get out as something even remotely comprehensible. He flipped the page and, just to save paper, wrote on the back of the one he'd just used. He paused, crossed something out, and squeezed in a different word next to it. Then, looking as sad as his gaping jaw would allow, he added something under the first sentence.
He held it out for Alec again.
I scared a new girlwomanoff earlier today
she won't be the last
He sucked up the overabundance of saliva that had developed and grumbled over the fact his mouth seemed to alternate between being parched and being a slobbery mess.

Alec read the message and automatically took on the visage of a kicked puppy somewhat, his large, dark eyes gave sufficient expression to what he was feeling at the time on most accounts. For a long time he didn't say anything, clearly reading the sadness on Sid's face.
"A' ge' looksh li' tha bu'..." The teen sighed and gave a futile shrug of his shoulders. "Effeh-one's n' th'shame boa', yammo?" He wiped at his mouth again, smacking his jaws a few times to try and hold his drool in check.

"Righ'," he said, nodding along with what Alec said. "Ah yoh."
Of course he knew that, but it didn't make it any easier, not when there was no more acting it would all go away if he just ignored it. He added a few idle scribbles to the page as he thought about that.

Alec nodded understandingly, knowing exactly where Sid was coming from. He was in denial for most of his early time on the island until his first change occurred. It was always after that point onwards where people changed, sometimes dramatically, sometimes for the worse it seemed. It was like one could predict the loss of the lives they once had after each change occurred in succession, though to Alec it was the wait that was killing him, the inevitability.
Seeing that Sid was still writing, the teenager paused in his contemplation and leaned forwards to see what was being scribbled down.

The bottom half of the page had nothing but nonsensical loops and swirls on it, something to do while he let everything sink in. He glanced up once he realized Alec was watching. As long as he had his attention he turned the page and wrote I'll be okay.
If he said it enough times- and wrote it enough- maybe it'd become true. Right.

Despite the ugly look of his gums, the sharkboy managed to offer a smile and nod in agreement. Everyone would be ok if they just stuck to the basics living. People like Amaya, who'd been there for so long, must've survived by just... living life, day by day. Someone would save them all some day, someone much better than him.
"Ye look tiyeh. Lesh go back?"

"Yeh," Sid said. It served to answer both the question and the statement. He slapped the notebook closed and put it and the pencil back in his pocket. His tail flicked again, which got another annoyed grunt out of him. Sid stood back up with the help of his cane and waved vaguely at Alec's stuff with his free hand. Might as well be of some use.
"Lemme cahree suthen."

Out of curtosy Alec stacked together the light items that wouldn't prove very cumbersome for the man who couldn't exactly walk properly on his own. He himself grabbed the awkward objects like the drum, some rolled up posters and other such nicknacks before handing Sid the small stack of clothes the like. As he turned to lift the rest of the things off the ground, he spotted his toothbrush that he must've brought with him out of habit. Bitterly he picked it up and flung it hard into the bushes towards the river, before finish the task.
"Lesh go, a th'fies awe shtawt'n t'pish me off." With a smirk, he waited for Sid to lead the way.

Sid simply nodded in response, giving no indication he'd seen the toothbrush chucked away. He turned back towards the duplexes and started walking. He set a fairly slow pace for the both of him, but it left them plenty of time to make awkward, garbled conversation along the way. Or maybe they could just enjoy the silence. Either way it helped just to be moving.
