Kayu nodded obediently, and turned towards the exit. She motioned for Aela to follow her with a quick wave of her hand, and walked out into the cool evening air.
Located in the center of the camp was a large round tent, which was often referred to as the Gathering Tent or the Meeting Tent. It was where many of the local residents held their meetings, and it was also where many of the elders told stories of "the good ol' days" to the Kiyap children. No matter what time of day it was or who was using the tent, there was always an "important" person close by. Kayu decided that the Meeting Tent would be a good place to looks for those important people.

(meeting tent! Good idea!)
It seemed as if word had been sent well ahead of the two. It made more sense now that Kayu was Aela's only escort.
Four elders awaited them, one for each Family. Although each family had more than one true leader, each had sent a person who could speak with authority. To signify that they were here in official capacity, the two men and the two women wore armbands made simply from tied strips of colored cloth; red for warriors, blue for healing, green for scholars, and yellow for craftsmen.
A thin man with a blunt nose and a blue armband held the tent flap open for them. "How was your supper? Restful, I hope?"
An older woman with a red armband stood behind him. "The time for rest has ended. You have put us all in a bad position, kiyae, since our two tribes are somewhat at odds. Are you our captor then, or an ambassador?" At odds? Since when?
"Stay, Kayu," the green armband asked her, inclining his head from his sitting position near the middle of the tent. "We may yet need your unique position in order to communicate with the Demere."

Kayu thanked the healer for his polite gesture and entered the tent. She began wondering if Aela would be all right under the circumstances. After all, it was not uncommon for certain persons to breakdown in the presence of the sterner leaders of the tribe. Kayu turned to face Aela and smiled at her, hoping to bring her some comfort if she was feeling any nervousness.
Kayu bowed before the four leaders, and replied to the leader of the scholars. "Honorable sirs, it would be my pleasure to stay in your company for the duration of this meeting." Kayu took a step back, and stood near the edge of the tent. She waited tentatively for the meeting to begin.

(Ahem >.>)
After questioning and staring at Aela for a few minutes, the tribe seemed to decide that she was not a threat. "Go back to your people tomorrow morning, and if it pleases you, bring word of our hospitality." The man with the blue arm-band showed her out of the tent and found a place for her to stay the night if she would accept.
After the girl had left, green armband apologized; "Surely we have kept you, Kayu. But how much do you know of our relations with the other tribes?" The three that were left stared at her with tinges of suspicion and excitement. It seemed akward that the question was asked when not all were present. Hopefully they did not expect Kayu to know protocol.

Kayu was caught off guard at the question directed at her. All of the previous questions were for Aela, so this was a change of pace for her. She cleared her throat and thought for a moment. She looked at the ground as she tried to collect her words.
"In all honesty, sirs, I do not know much about the Kiyap's affairs with the other tribes. I've tried to not get caught up with the politics and relationships between the tribes. However, from what I could gather after staying here with your people for some time now... you do not go out of your way to make contact with the other tribes." She nervously looked up at the leaders. "Please correct me if I am wrong. Again, I do not know much..."

The old woman laughed brusquely. "We ask you now to become very involved."
"We stand very much apart," agreed the one with the green armband.
The one with the yellow, practically silent until now, stood up and offered her hand. "My name is Bilboa. These are Grinder and Craze, and Thole has just left."
"We will wait for Thole," Grinder, with the green armband, acknowledged with a tinge of shame in his voice.
Craze sighed impatiently. "If we must."
"I will get refreshments," Bilboa said with a shrug before also disappearing.
"It's true that what we ask of you," Grinder began in a hushed voice, "is to be very involved. Hopefully you will not think ill of us because of it. We have no idea how... how not to offend you."
