My family was like that when I was younger. violin is another one...Most parents considerate to be a sign of prestige. Also, music and intelligence go hand in hand. If you play an instrument, your more likely to do better in school than most. My parents started me out with piano when I younger. I stopped playing a few years ago and switched to guitar. I don't mind either of the two.

well im Chinese and like i play the violin although i tried the piano before...i thinik my parents dont wanna pay for classes haha ^_^;

 ...My mom..got me drums when I was 10. oo; Because she felt guilty when she bought a flute for my older sister. I don't even play it. xD;

yeah.....most asian parents does that....
like my parents xp
i play piano since i was about 6 or 7 yr old.....
my teacher said i was tallent....but she said i'm too lazy to practice...
(ture....i practice only twice a week xd xd )
but i don't play anymore....since i move to US
one of my cousin...she play piano since she was 3!!!!!!!that's just eek

They want us to be multi-talented? hah
I have lots of asian friends who play the piano but a few dont.
I do actually and saw lots of other asians play w/ me b/c...
the last years I took lessons was from a filipino teacher! X]

The question is...Why do parents always want their kids to play piano and be a DOCTOR and go to Stanford/Harvard?
Those aren't the only good hobbies/jobs/schools out there you know.

She has had more experince then me, I have only been learning piano for about a year.

i guess asian parents..
especially the chinese expect more from their children...
they want straight A's in studies..
more important activies less entertainment involving their children...
so their children could stand a better chance getting scholarship...
btw..
i wasnt offered to learn piano..
but most other people around me have to learn piano..
their parents say "ITS A MUST"
