ChaoticConsonance For all those hating on the trumpets -- control is the hardest thing to learn on it, and most band directors don't teach it. A well-played trumpet is a thing of beauty, but most middle/high school trumpeters are too inexperienced to play with the skill that it requires. And how could you not like horn? It's the hardest instrument, so maybe you guys are speaking of talent again, but it's got the most gorgeous, versatile sound EVAR. eek I'd hug you, but I have no idea who you are. My french horn is my baby, I love it and (try to) keep it dent free. Horn is the best. I don't really like the flutes, mostly because of my sensitive ears- the high notes hurt my ears (and this is only the high notes by middle school standards) and if any flute misses a note, AND it's a high note, I almost die. I really have nothing against flute players, though. Many of them are good, but if the flutes as a whole don't have good ensemble (sp?), they're very bad.

LegolasGreenleaf Treyter I really dislike the Trumpets because they dont know when to stop practicing and they always screw up and start over again, and its irritating... their sound Sux!.... oh and snare's because their too loud, and also have no idea when to stop That sounds exactly like the trumpets in my band except they don't practice...they talk, they're never ready for their entrances and they don't stop with everyone else. sounds like the trumpets in my band...wait, i play trumpet...Anyways, It's your band's player. A trumpet in the right hands sound so beautiful. And wanna know WHY we always practice? Because we know that we're the best and that it was (usually) a hard won title. so we practice to stay at the top of out game. And about the missed entrances...well, that's also on you guys. My band has got the best trumpet playersin both the Junior High and Highschool. Well, save Jacob Greene. He just suxs altogther.

And we are the best trumpets at school and I practice too. So Matt and i are the only ones that practice. Jacob sure as hell doesn't. And we kick a** and you know it!

I listened to a recording of my band's last concert, and I'm changing my mind... the flutes just hurt my ears because I sit right next to them. From a distance, they sound very nice. It's... the... trumpets that I don't like now. The ones that blare at you in an almost angry kind of way. There's one trumpet player in my band that actually sounds very good, and he's always in tune, and reaches the high notes gracefully, but the others have serious band ensemble problems, intenation (sp?) problems, and one doesn't even tongue anything, so everything he plays is a constant slur. I respect the trumpets players, but REALLY... some of them...

But I can actually give you best trumpets in school, because you're the highest freakin' grade!!! *brags* Now when you get first band first chair at all-region, then I'll admit you're the best overall.

It's a lot easier to argue at school and B. These people don't care about us.lol

OOG. In my band, we hate the bassoon the most because the bassoons are not in tune. Well in my band they are not. It sounds so horrible and you have to strain all your senses to just find out what the heck they are playing. But they are getting better.
If the bassoons were in tune I couldn't say that I hate any of the instruments. Because we need all of them in the right number because the songs sound wonderful with all the instruments playing their right rhythms, beats, tempo, notes, pitch, and tune. We need all the instruments even if we might like one more than the other. But without all the instruments, there would be no band. There will be no wonderful blend of music. It just would sound so horrible!
But don't take my word for it.

I thought I was the best and that I could beat anyone. But I was proven wrong! I might have been 1st chair in my trumpet section and in the best band at my school but still! I was proven wrong! There was someone else in other schools who were better. Because they practice for hours every day. Because they were experience. Because they were just better. So now I know that I have to practice more and expect that there will be someone better. So I have to become better and better till I become equal. Then, if I'm lucky, I'll be better than they are. Besides, I'm still recovering from just getting my braces off. sweatdrop

I agree with the love of the horn!!! It is a dang hard instrument. I don't like the clarinets. Any time more than 5 clarinets get together, there's some sor tof dramatic chaos that causes tears and hatred and inability to function as a group. This really sucked because we had SEVENTEEN when I was a sophomore. Dang, I hate clarinets. I don't like the way they sound above the break, either. Except well played. And in jazz.

*laughs* I used to hate the french horn until I really learned how to play it. Now I sound AWESOME.
One of the main reasons I don't like the trumpets in intermidiate is because I'm so jealous of the advanced band trumpet players... everything they play has a full sound that melds perfectly with the rest of the band... the trumpeters in intermidiate are the 11 and 12 year old boys, 'look who loud I can play' kind of trumpet players. They tick me off.
Horn is getting pretty simple for me now, the only problem is that I can't play fast enough. I'm still sort of getting used to doing the fingerings with my left hand.
