pixisticks animeyume06 Question, what does, "Daisuki da yo" exactly mean? I heard Kame say it when he sang Natsu no Owari... and somebody asked what it meant, and i said that it means, "I like you" or something along those lines. But then someone came up and tried correcting me and said that it meant, "That's great" and then we got into this huge fight cuz i'm pretty sure it doesn't mean "that's right" since u hear a bunch of anime characters always saying, "Daisuki" when they're confessing their feelings for a person... and since u all seem like u all know ur japanese pretty well, i wanna ask what exactly does, "Daisuki da yo" mean? Technically, it means "I love it/I like it a lot". In speech, it pretty much means I love you. HA! SO I WAS RIGHT!!! Thx so much for telling me.

pixisticks TwisTed_L0ckE08 'Daisuki da yo' is only used by boys, right? Because of the 'da'. confused confused confused Well, nowadays girls are getting more and more prone to using 'da'. But if a girl was to say it, she would probably say "Daisuki da ne" instead of "yo". Although it really depends on the person themself. 3nodding Oh okay. I heard Fujii-san say 'Daisuki yo' to Yuya. Heehee. ^__^ So, I assumed that 'da' is used for boys but thanks for correcting me.

Daisuki desu. (I love [it]) ... polite form.
Daisuke da. (I love [it]) ... casual / plain form.
The 'da' is just the informal form of 'desu' as someone mentioned before. It's not a guy/girl thing ... though ... 'ne' is kind of an 'emphasizer' ... yes, I totally made up my own word ... kind of like 'yo' ... but 'yo' is a bit more of an emphasis in a way than 'ne' ... it's kind of hard to explain.
But guys and girls can use it ... it's not like male / female speech which has its own complications ... like ...
watashi = me boku = me [used by males, or seriously tomboy-ish females]
ore = me [males only, masculine, 'manly man' phrase XD] atashi = me [female ... very very feminine. XD]
anata = you [ ... it also means 'dear', like ... a wife calling her husband ... but we won't get into that]
omae, kimi = you [used by males, omae being more masculine than kimi]
... that's more male female speech ... and if you're even more curious ...
"shinai de kudasai" = please don't do it "suru na." = don't do it [male form] "shinai de" = don't do it. [female form ... guys can use it to, but the masucline way is above] ...
And then there's the whole issue of honorific speech that you use with people above you and what not ... much fun, I guarantee you =).

Yep, that's pretty much what I said. 3nodding And the only reason I brought up a guy/girl issue is because I know there are some ways to say things in a more masculine way and a more feminine way, unlike in English. I just wanted to point it out.

Noirsy Ackies, how am I ever going to remember the plain and polite forms of words? D: You get used to it. xd My advice? Learn polite form first. Once you know the rules, THEN learn how to drop them.

sunANBU ooooh! Pixi! now that you got your computer back, if you're not busy, could you tell me how to get my computer to see asian characters? Ah! Yes, of course. Okay, for me, I have Windows XP, so this is what you do: Go to control panel Go to Regional and Language options Under the Languages tab, check the boxes that say "Install files for East Asian languages" and "Install Files for complex script and right-to-left languages" And you MIGHT have to restart your computer, dun remember. But that's how mine worked. ^_^
