"If it's got a top, I think you should go for it," she said encouragingly. She didn't recognize the car name, but from the way he talked about it, it must be something special in the car world. "All the kids would probably love it. Who didn't wish for a convertible when they were little?"

He'd probably end up getting all of them asking for joy rides. Remi had to keep from laughing at herself. She was thinking about 'kids' in plural for once. Then again, at the compound it was starting to feel like one big family.

He shrugged, "I don't know, I kind of always wished my dad had something other than convertibles. Not once when I was home did I have a good hair day." Silly reason, but it was kind of true. He liked sports cars as much as any other guy, but when you could pick whatever one you wanted they seemed a little less special. Which was why he wanted an older one, so he could fix it up himself, "Wonder if anyone around would be interested in helping me restore one." He knew he could find someone, but it was more about companionship than actual help.

Ah, someone else who had a bad hair experiences with convertibles. Another reason for her extremely short hair, less to blow in your face and look like a mop.

"If I knew anything about fixing up cars, I'd offer to help," she replied sheepishly. She could use tools, but mechanics were her friend when it came to cars. "You might want to ask Carver. He's another guardian who lives in the same building I do. Maybe he'll know something more about cars than I do. Heck, I might even watch."

She would have suggested Marc as well, but something about him told her that man didn't seem the type to get oil and dirt all over him.

"It's not that hard a thing to learn really, I usually have to look up a lot of things when I try it. I could hire a mechanic, but it's more fun to get down and dirty myself, even if it takes longer," he explained, then showed her a bit of a devious smile, "Maybe you could help me paint it. Show up in little shorts and a tank top, get all spotty. We'd have to hose you down." Ah frat boy humor, it could ruin any mood.

She could understand how fixing it up by oneself would be a lot more fun. If she had a car that she put hours of work into, she'd definitely value it much higher than one she randomly bought.

She blushed a bright red at his last comment. Very reminiscent of the Marc incident a few days ago. Though at least this time she was in a public place, rather than some stranger's apartment. She wasn't sure how to respond.

"Er...um, well," she started stuttering, her face turning progressively more red. "Uh--I could...help paint, I mean. I, er, don't know about the whole, um--shorts and tanktop--er, thing..."

Ah well, it was worth a shot. "Well, we'll see about that when the time comes then, huh? You never know, might change your mind." Come on Stephan, don't scare the poor girl. There went that little voice again, reminded him of his sister, always nagging. "What color do you think. The Speedster's really round and sleek, so most people paint it black. But I think that'd be a little bland." Way to change the subject.

Very glad about the change of subject, she jumped into it eagerly.

"Black's definitely a sleek color, but it's horrible to clean and makes a car unbearably hot in the summer," she said, her face still quite red, though softening somewhat. "I'm a fan of metallic blue and green, myself. Either that or gold."

"A blue would be nice, maybe a steel blue with chrome detailing?" He offered, a bit partial to the color himself. And silver went fine with most colors, and chrome was easy to clean. A blue would stay fairly cool, and easy to clean. Easier than a black or a white at least. A pearlescent silver would be nice too, but it was a harder kind of paint to find than just a normal color.

"That sounds like it would look nice," she tried to imagine what it would look like, then nodded in approval. She wondered if everyone put this much thought into cars. Her car had been given to her, and she'd never given a second thought about it. She also didn't really give a second thought about it when she sold it either. For the first wekek, maybe, but after that she didn't really care anymroe.

"So when are you going to get this fabled blue and chrome Speedster?"

"That's a good question," he laughed, "Well, it would be a little impractical to try and fix it up with a toddler around, so maybe not for a little while. I'll start looking for one to restore now though, maybe keep it in a garage for a while while I look for parts and things. It'll be a fairly big project." Stephan had always been a little spontaneous in his decisions, but things like cars and building projects required a bit more planning than say, a party or a trip.

She laughed with him, imagining working on a car and accidentally having an overly curious toddler climbing under the hood. The thought of Gavin covered in oil was horrifying to her neat-freak tendencies when it came to personal hygeine, but still funny nonetheless.

"Well, when you do get it, I wouldn't mind helping with the paint," she added a bit more confidently this time. She still wasn't considered the hosing down part, but painting might be fun. As an afterthought, she realized they had been done eating for a while. The check was sure to come soon, not that she wanted it to be over yet.

As if on cue, the waitress brought over the check, and Stephan immediately put one of his credit cards down on it. "Care for another pot of coffee Remi? Or do you need to be running home to make sure Gavin hasn't woken up and torn the place apart?" He laughed, hoping more than a little that she didn't plan to leave right yet. Living alone was alright for a while, but he missed the noise and the chaos of the frat house, even if he had tried not to get involved in a lot of it. And talking to people was the next best thing.

Remi smiled sheepishly when he whipped out his credit card, thankful for the free dessert. And since coffee was free, and she was planning on getting a bit of writing done late tonight, she figured she might as well stay for more.

"I guess one more pot wouldn't hurt," she replied, resting her elbows on the table. "If Gavin's already destroyed the place that just means I'll be up a bit later tonight cleaning up. Coffee will help with that."

And though she didn't want to say it out loud, she didn't really want to leave yet either.

"Alright, one more pot then." The waitress nodded, picking up the check and the card with it. "So, the apartments are kind of bland, I figure eventually I'll have to redecorate, make it a bit more homey. Any ideas on that? You seem to have been here for a while." Decorating tips, maybe not the best subject for him, but it was an annoying truth. Kids didn't do too well with white walls and only the needed furniture. They like color and light, and all that garbage.

Though she had only been there a week or two, she guessed it was a long time compared to some of the newer guardians.

"Well, I did paint the walls," she replied, trying to remember what all she did. The painting had been a nightmare. The paint ended up either drying a different color than what she painted on the wall, or two cans that she bought that were supposed to be the same color actually weren't. The apartment did look a lot more homey afterward, so it was worth it. "If you do it right, it can really change the feel of a room. That's really all I've had time for so far. It took me about four days to do the whole apartment."

And keep Gavin out of the paint. That had been a nightmare all in itself.
