White Feather

"Hm..." Feather muttered, raising her head as she squinted into the distance. She held a hand over her forehead to block out the midday sun. "How about that rock, over there? It might be a tad of a hike, but we should be able to do it." The girl thrust her other hand in the direction of the said stone, which in reality was a bolder placed at the near end of the meadow.

"Fllyyy rock!" Alex chirped, prancing wildly about as he saw Raven's nod- she was going along! "Come on, Waven! Lessgolessgo!"

Raven chirped happily in agreement, spreading her arms and stretching them as far as they would go, beginning to speed off in the direction of the looming stone.

She tripped and stumbled numerous times, all but two butterflies abandoning her feathers. Foot catching a small mound in the ground, Raven rolled headlong into the rock and lauged so much her sides began to ache. Flopping to the side, the child scrambled up the rough surface, wind noticably picking up atop of it. She grinned, tipsily standing, waiting.

"Waitforme!!" Alex whined, following closely after her with a rather pleading look on his face. "Waven could TELL me before wunning like that!" He sounded annoyed, but it was fairly easy to notice he was only joking. The small toddler clambered up onto the rock after Raven, and not after long, was flapping his wings anxiously as he waited for Feather to arrive upon the scene.

"Hang on, you guys! Sheesh...you sure go fast for little ones." Feather gasped after she caught her breath, leaning against the rock for support. She had also followed the two, though she remained a safe distance away.

"Hm...do you want to go together, or seprately?"

Alex cocked his head, pondering the question silently. He wanted to try to fly...but he was also kind of scared. He turned back towards Raven.

"Go wif me...?"

Raven grabbed his hand and held it tightly, nervous jitters clotting knots in her stomach. Now that she was here... she wasn't so sure she could do this... Her resolve to at least try shoved its way back into her mindset, and she let loose a tight nod.

"'Kay..." she said softly, gulping. She readied herself on the edge of the rock, glancing at Alexander to make sure he was, too.

Bird, who was still catching a few breaths, stood a little straighter as they took their stances. "Okay... on three?"

"One..." Feather murmered, reluctant to let her baby just randomly jump off from a tall rock. He was just a little guy! What would happen? She swallowed her doubts nonetheless, and continued.

"Two..."

Alex braced himself.

"THREE!"

He didn't think. He didn't have to think. Alexander jumped off the rock's ledge, closing his eyes and flapping his wings furiously. He couldn't see Raven- he had no idea what she was doing. He continued to beat his feathery appendeges, opening his eyes only after a few seconds of his initial jump, realizing he was suspended in mid air. Sure, he wasn't going anywhere, but he WAS off the ground! He let out a quick cheer of accomplishment, and tumbled down to the ground in a rush of parting feathers.

Bird scrambled to the front of the rock, holding out her hands lightly to brace whomever might tumble.

A burst of wind wurged up to greet her as she took a wild leap off the stone, lifting her up higher than Alexander-- she could only tell by the slight tug of his arm she was still clutching. Her arms fully extended, Raven didn't dare open her eyes, fearing that the mment she did she would tumble, or.. or wake up, or still be on the rock and have to take that terrible jump again.

The wind died, and she fell with Alex down into Bird's waiting arms, who oomphed when the two bundles landed.

Warily sitting up, tremors shooting through her arms, Raven glanced around blearily, metting Alexander's eyes. There was a short pause...

Before Raven let out a high-pitched squeal, elated.

"Wediditwedidit!!" Alexander cried, his words slurring together worse than usual. His expression broke into a wide grin as he happily bounced in Bird's arms, leaning over and pulling Raven into a deep embrace. "We...flew!" He spoke shrilly, hardly able to contain his excitement. "YAY!"

"...Wow.." Feather trotted up next to Bird, smiling happily at Alex and Raven. "You guys did it! Sure, it was only a few moments, but you really DID do it! Congratulations!"
PostPosted: Wed May 04, 2005 5:34 pm

Bird beamed in pride, an enourmous grin engulfing her face. "Well done!"

Raven squeezed Alexander back, very, very pleased. A few butterflies were still dancing around them, doing backflips and twirls, creating a small circle around the two. The girl was bouncing as well, wriggling and cheering and just about ready to burst in joy.

Raven, noticing her plucked feather in Alex's goggles, picked one of his up from a crook in Bird's folded arms, surrounding them. She tucked it behind her ear, smiling in a pleased sort of way.

Alex giggled wildly at Raven, reaching up to touch her own feather which had obviously spurred her actions. He petted it savoringly, apparently cherishing the happy moment.

"Waven...FEATHER FWIENDS! Yus." He concluded with a happy nod, hesitantly reaching out to touch the feather tucked behind the girl's hair. It seemed almost as if the little plumes simply fascinated him to no end.

Or could it have been deeper than that?

"Yeah. Great job, you two. It can only get better from here!" Feather agreed, reaching over to pluck Alex from Bird's arms. He whined faintly at the meer thought of being dragged from his 'feather fwiend', but brightened when he realized it was likely he'd see her again tomorrow.

And the day after that.

"Well...I'd say that's enough flying for today..." Feather murmured, gently stroking Alex's hair, though careful not to accidently take Raven's feather from his goggles. "Maybe we could do this again, sometime? It's been a lot of fun, Bird! Raven, you too!"

"Yeah!" she cheered in agreement with Alexander. When he was removed from Bird's hold, Raven giggled and clasped her hands together, wiggling further into her mother's arms, which cocooned around her. The child nuzzled into them appreciatively, a yawn escaping her.

Bird chuckled, pumping a fist into the air. "You have officially broken the ice! Whoo!"

Raven's fingers kept playing with the tuft at the end of Alex's feather, comforted at its softness. "Bye, Awex! Awex's Momma!" she chirped, waving an arm as her mother turned, waving herself, and headed back home in the dying sunlight.

"Come here, honey!"

"NO!"

"Please...? I'll give you some cookies if you do!"

The reply was hesitant this time, as if the child was rethinking their previous refusal.

"Oh..okay.."

"YEAH! Now, Alex, come here and let mommy help you get undressed." Feather gestured for her boy to come toward her, smiling pleasantly. She reached behind her with the other hand, checking the water's temperature for one last time. Lukewarm.

Perfect for a bath.

The small boy nodded, stepping towards his mother's outstretched hand. However, both of his own hands remained fixed on his goggles, but more specifically, the feather tucked safely in it's band. It was Raven's feather, the one the boy had aquired from the two toddler's previous encounter back at the meadow. He had been clinging onto it for dear life since they had walked home that night.

Feather pulled off Alex's shirt, and proceeded to remove the rest of his clothing, plopping him into the serene depths of the water. She left the feather alone, however.

The water rushed over Alex, beads of the clear liquid dripping off of his feathers. He winced, finding the sensation frightening rather than pleasnant. He waved his arms frantically about, his distress sending surges of splashes in Feather's direction.

"WATER NOOO!!" He cried, on the verge of tears. He struggled to stand up, intent on getting out.

"Alex!" Feather said firmly, wiping splashed water from her face as she stood up, gently but firmly setting Alexander back into the water. "It's only water! It won't hurt you!"

The boy calmed at his mother's touch, and settled down. The pool of liquid began to stop quaking, as well. "But...scary! And...weird!" He whined defensively, sniffling innocently.

"It isn't scary..." Feather replied with an amused grin, taking a cupful of water and pouring it over Alex's head. He didn't flinch this time around.

"It'll make you nice and squeaky clean!" She took a sponge with a colored print of a duck stamped across it and began scrubbing Alex vigorously, soap suds flying everywhere. Alex giggled and caught some of the bubble-masses, molding them into various shapes with his small hands. He hardly even noticed Feather had already began lathering some tear-free shampoo into his thick mess of hair, careful not to disrupt neither his goggles or his feather.

She poured a few more handfuls of water onto his head and body, and washed away the last of the fun bubbly-soap. Alex was sad to see them go, but at the same time, was glad that the bath had finally come to an end. No matter what his mother said, the water still scared the crap out of him.

Towel in hand, Feather plucked Alex from the bath and allowed the drain at the bottom of the tub to swallow up the remainder of the soapy water. She proceeded to wrap the boy up in the fuzzy dry cloth and take him to his bedroom, where he was later changed into some fresh clothes.

"Now...for those cookies..." Satisfied that Alex looked acceptable in his new outfit, Feather scurried out of his room and into the kitchen.

The boy stood up from his bed, and clumsily walked over to the open balcony door. He sat down in the doorframe, looking out at the city's skyline, and enjoying a brisk breeze which always seemed present in his quarters.

The feather which he cherished so much danced in the wind, as well.

Ish ALL my fault! I hurt Waven!

I only wanted to go flying with her off of the table at the Eden place! I didn't mean it! But it happened, and I'm all to blame! I swear I...I didn't mean to do it! She's crying because of what I did!

She'll never forgive me...I just know it! Our friendship is ruined!

What if she can never fly again because of me?!!!

Stupid...water...it's messing up the paper and I can't even read this hardly anymore. Why can't I stop?

I need to go...go get a tissue...

Kashimi flits into view, a whole hoarde of little scrolls attached to him in various places. He dives down, hovering a moment, then dropping one of the letters down for Feather and Alexander.

The letter reads...

Hey, it's Jadaria. I've been rather busy, lately - not quite able to get around to the main building, you know? I feel back for Kaji, though, so I'm sending Kashimi around with these notes for everyone.

Feel free to drop by my house if you'd like to have tea sometime. I'm sure Kaji would love it! The kids could play in his playroom, and we could chat a time.

((This is an invitation to roleplay in my journal. I'm not always around in the main thread, but I'd like to play. If you'd like to, drop by and post. :3))

"MOMMIE, MOMMIE! LOOKIE A LETTER!" Alex tumbled out of the open apartment door and fetched the small scroll of paper, and quickly turned around, stumbling over to Feather who was watching TV on the couch.

"Hm...?" She took the note, giving Alex a nod of awknowledgement, and spread it out, her eyes moving carefully from side to side as she read it. Hm...come to think of it, Alex SHOULD catch up with the other Edens, seeing as he hasn't really talked to anyone but Raven in a while...

"How's about an erm...road trip, Alex? We can go visit Kajika and Jadaria!"
Feather stood up, peering down at her child with a smile.

"YEAH YEAH WOAD TWIP!!" He cheered in response.

"Alright! Let's go!" Feather sweeped the boy into her arms and strode out of the apartment, it's door slowly creaking shut.

Out of the building and into the street they went.
