nice post! i kind of wish this hadn't fallen down where I didn't see it.
In post 2, did you get bored with the formatting, or did gaia truncate it? because it was going all nice and spiffy and then boom, tiny little black things. : (

Although the kanji for the numbers are not used very often anymore, it is still a good idea to learn them. In case you ever do see them somewhere.
I totally disagree. You see the kanji for numbers in all the randomest places. Learning them now will help later. Months and usually days are listed with kanji (十月二十四日, Oct 24). The word 一番, as in "いちばんのすきなものは なんですか? what's your favorite (first-in-series liked) thing?" I know they're not used in, like, the financial world, and you're not gonna walk into a store and see the price listed in kanji numerals, but they're /so/ simple to learn, it's almost like why not learn them and get them out of the way? Plus you never know when you'll avoid looking like a stupid foreigner because you know the kanji numbers.
I know I don't say much in either yours or Mikagi's posts, but I do find them helpful. I don't know if anyone will find my post helpful, but at the very least, I'm doing it for me! Because there are always kanjiphones that trip me up, and I need to keep them separate.
I think, in a strange sort of way, doing a teaching thread is an excellent way to learn. Obviously not just everyone should be trying to teach; you have to /know/ before you can /teach/, but going over stuff with such a fine-toothed comb can really make it stick in your head.
Best of luck with the 500! 500's not too bad, if you learn a bunch of very common kanji, you can hit 300 very easily, and so 500's not impossible.
