As Kotoro continued his way through the busy street, he couldn't help but feel someone's eyes on him. He surpressed the urge to turn around or even let his own eyes wander. This was, afterall, the most crowded area of town. There was bound to be a new set of eyes pass over him every few seconds. Mentally brushing away the thought, he slipped into a small foodmart on the corner of the street.
He immediatly went to grab the essentials: Milk, bread, cheese, and chocolate snack cakes. With what he already had back in his apartment, it would hold him over until his next pay.

Oliver, too, slipped into the foodmart. His gaze moving over the different edible items in the store, and landing especially on those that the other purchased.
'So this is what humans eat? .... where's the meat?' he wondered curiously. Nix did like meat quite a bit. Watching all of this was making Oliver hungry. He chose a rather curious-looking food from a produce bin-- a peach-- and bit into it non-chalantly.
"Excuse me, you have to pay for that," a busybody female employee bossily notified Oliver. The Nix... didn't understand. Pay? What did 'pay' mean? When he didn't respond, but took another hungry bite out of the peach, the female manager grabbed his wrist and tried to forcibly remove his fruit from him.
Whether it was survival or territorial instinct, Oliver turned on the girl and clutched the peach to his chest. He hissed and bared his teeth, accented by very sharp canines. "NO!" he shouted, "Mine!"
"Sir, you have to PAY for it... then eat," she yelled back, going in for it again.
Oliver clearly did not understand. Fruit was fruit. It was free game in the forest... why not in the village? Besides, it probably came from his forest to begin with. What was this 'pay'?
"You want me to put it back?" he asked, finally willing to stick the nearly completely consumed peach back in the bin.
"No! What are you, an idiot?! I want you to PAY me for it! Get in line and pay!"
Oliver shook his head, not comprehending still.

Mie-tanuki Kon nodded slowly, although his mouth was quivering slightly and his shoulders trembled. The tears had the affect of making him look even more like a child than he usually did, whic was saying something. "Kon... Kon is... alright," he mumbled, holding his hands up at the other's request. He sniffed, eyes closing breifly, and then looked back up at the other. Strangers - especially taller ones - made him nervous. He just... didn't know what to do. "Kon is fine," he repeated, retracting on of his hands so that he could wipe the tears away again. Ryu gently smiled. Kon...was that his name? Whoever he was, he was completely adorable. He looked over the wounds and found them to be nothing serious-just as he had predicted- but stayed nonetheless. He just couldn't bring himself to leave this boy all alone, but he couldn't understand why...As he looked into those eyes, he knew. Those eyes-those beautiful eyes...or, rather, the tears in them. The boy pulled his hand away once again to wipe away said tears, but Ryu caught it again. Slowly, he lifted one hand up to his face and wiped away the tears. Again, a small, soft smile tugged at his lips as he murmured "All right...If you say you're fine then you must be."

Kotoro was stopped by the scene, barely blinking. What was wrong with that boy? For half a second, he thought he remembered seeing him on the street not long ago, but he was torn from his thoughts when the woman was once more shouting. "Hey, lady," he said, approaching the two, arms still loaded with his own groceries. "The guy probably just doesn't have any money. Besides, it's just a peach."
When she started rambling off on if it was 'just a peach' and started giving them all away, there would be no profit. Without profit she wouldn't get her own paycheck and without a paycheck she couldn't buy her own peaches.
Kotoro wasn't particularly paying attention to what she was saying. He was just staring at her continually moving mouth, how it seemed to jerk in the right corner with every other word she said. And.. was that a little bit of spit that shot out? He had had enough of her. "Alright! I'll pay for it myself if it'll get you to shut up."
She seemed struck in disbelief when a harsh tone was thrown back her way, but it seemed to do the trick. She wrinkled her nose with a curt nod and stiffly walked back to the cash register.

The blond nodded - his tears had stopped and it was now safe to move his head as there was not much chance of further tears being dislodged. "That is what Kon said." He flinched slightly as the other reached over to touch his face. He couldn't trust humans, not after what he'd seen them do, even if this one seemed nice enough. It was instinct, after all. He seemed a little disoriented, as if the boy couldn't quite remember why he was here. It was all too hard to patch together his two worlds: the human one where he had a job and had to work to live and the animalistic, instinctive world where he had to fight to survive. It was like trying to fit two puzzle peices together when each peice came from a separate puzzle and, try as he might, they just wouldn't fit.

Ryu noticed that the boy seemed startled, confused and lost, but tried to just shrug it off. "Are you lost? You certianally seem in a hurry." With that statement, Ryu felt yet another smile tug at his lips- it felt like it was the five- hundreth smile of his day since meeting this boy.

Eyes widening as his subject came to his defense, Oliver watched the redhead take verbal harassment on behalf of him and his single peach.
He watched in awe as Kotoro managed to get this hostile female creature to leave him alone. Quite happily, he took another bite of the juicy peach, a trail of its sticky fluid running down his chin. That is, until he wiped it away with the inside of his wrist.
"Mmn." he commented. Tilting his head to the side, he eyed this human and his groceries. "Thanks," he murmured, hoping it was the right thing to say.

That little bit of change in his features that had occured when he had urged the woman away, that small touch of aggravation vanished just as quickly as it had bloomed. Once more he was back to his passive attitude. With the said gratitude, Kotoro's golden brown eyes fell onto the younger-looking male.
"Just fulfilling my daily good deed," he said as he moved to lay his things onto the counter. He was still slightly curious about the boy, though.
"So were you just trying to be a smartass with the hag and get a free snack or what, kid?" he just had to ask.

Oliver pulled his goggles down so they hung loosely around his neck. Oddly enough, no imprints were made against his smooth face.
He shook his head, but didn't verbalize any response to Kotoro's question.
"Would you like some?" he asked, extending his peachy hand and nearly pressing the fruit to the other's lips.

Kotoro's lips tightened in refusal to take the over half-eaten fruit. He thought if he were to open his mouth to speak, Oliver may shove the unwanted peach in there anyway. You could never be too careful around young boys.
Bringing two fingers up, he gingerly pushed his hand down and away from his face, not wanting to get any stray juices on his own hand. "You go ahead," he said. "I'm not really hungry." Thankfully, the elderly women at the shop always insisted he try their baked goodies and other foods. It did well to take care of lunch. "Besides, you worked hard enough to keep it. You eat it." He wouldn't necessarily call it sincerity, but an excuse to get the fruit away from him.
When the cashier finished -making sure to add the peach to the charge- the red-head fished in his pocket and paid. This place was always cheap. That's why he liked it.

"Kon... Kon has work!" he exclaimed, his expression immidiately cleared of confusion as it become determined. "But see, the way was blocked and Kon can't find the way..." The boy was obviously not very good with directions. It had taken him a while to learn the way to his work and suddenly having to find a new way would be even more difficult. "But Kon hasn't found anything yet," he said with a small, hopeless shrug.

"Hn, what a coincidence- I'm looking for something too, and I can't find it either...but I'm not looking for work...I don't know where to start- I'm not even totally sure what it is I'm looking for. Would you like some help? I know the city pretty well- I'm sure I could get you wherever you need to be."

He nodded furvently and said, "Thank you. Yes... Kon is looking for Soak Salon. Kon does make-up and hair things... a make-up artists," he explained with a bright smile. In fact, he often did work for theatre troupes, although his usual work was at a particular salon. Being a shape shifter himself, he was particularly gifted in changing other's appearances. He looked at the other curiously. "What are you looking for? Maybe Kon can help you after work - although Kon is not very good with finding things and directions and such," he said, an embarrassed sort of smile on his lip, cheeks tinged slightly pink.

I'm very curious- it sounds like an amazing profession to be in." He took hold of Kon's hand, gently guiding him out of the alleyway. "And if you don't mind, I would like to stay and watch. That way you can help me with my search- I'm sure that your help would be invaluable."

Kon nodded. That seemed fair, that the other should stay and watch in exchange for his leading the hopeless blonde to his work place. "Well, Kon does make-up and hair and things... things to change the way people look. Sometimes Kon does clothes and other things, too, but mostly just on the people themselves." The boy was a little afraid of stumbling again and ending up hurting the other as well, but he didn't seem in any immidiate danger of doing that as long as he watched where he was going.
