If he doesn't learn to show some respect now, some other dragon will threaten him worse! the young one huffed back, but he also withdrew his claws. Seeing the boy's eyes widen would have to be enough. Now the dragon pretended to be bored, and turned with his snout held high to leave.

True, but human's are fragile creatures. And in addition to respect, the must also learn trust. Frank, I wouldn't disapprove if it hadn't been his first encounter. We don't want to make him scared of his own dragon when he sees it. The last comment was said with an air of humour at the idea. Drxisisliege was pleased to see the young dragon leave. She ewaumws relaxing in the sun, knowing that the only crisis that had been averted was the one Katrina had made up in her head...

Katrina, for her part, waited with a smug smile of satisfaction for Amius to come to his senses.

Cedric returned with an abruptness and air of command that seemed tailored to affront Katrina. He was used to commanding, and pretended not to be used to concessions. And besides, he had information he knew she would want to hear and do something about, and probably the new kid too. Yeah, his son, whatever his name was. Jaimes?

"The dragons humbly propose that you accompany them to the Tower of Kay to give the royal family the shock of their lives." As Cedric went on, his tone became more clearly mocking, beginning with a near quote of the dragon's message and ending with his own translation. "You better damn well accept, or else they plan to outcast you until your better half--" that was, Drxis,-- "can teach you better manners."

Cedric gave a slight bow to Drxisisliege in order to smooth over any offense he might have given. He suspected that the other dragons had told Drxis nothing of this plan of theirs. "Drxisisliege is required to attend if you go, Katrina."

"And you," he added to the younger man. "will remain under the care of Drxisisliege as well, until such time as you are of age or returned to your homeland."

Drxisisliege inclined her head towards Cedric in an understanding gesture. The Opal dragon was used to the ways that dragon society worked.
She will have to learn manners as she goes, she has many years of learning her own ways to undo. Drxisisliege said sympathetically.
Katrina was bothered by what she termed as a rash and unnecessarily excessive demand. She simply contained a sigh and fiegned an aloffness to the whole prospect.
"Very well" Katrina said, trying to fly in the face of Cedric's grave presence. "I doubt Drxisisliege would like it very much if I refuse."
No Was the simple reply.
"You'll be joining us, won'y you, Cedric?"

"I will," he said, mimicking her haughty tone unconsciously. "But..." The illusion broke, and suddenly he was a worried old man whose nuerons did not fire as fast as he wanted them to. "My wife... they will not let her come. I do not want to leave her by herself." It would be impossible to be certain if he was merely fretting over nothing, or if there was a substation reason behind his worry. But to Katrina, he thought suddenly, it must seem ridiculous. "Never mind," he muttered sullenly.

"Why ever would you fear? There is a field full of DRAGONS here. No harm could come to her unless she was too foolish to know what is dangerous." She looked at Drxisisliege, contemplating what reaction they would get, a Feteran and a dragon in Tok...
"I dare say we would be in greater danger. Speaking of which, when are we leaving?"

Cedric snarled at her but did not elaborate. He had his own reasons for worrying about his wife, and he wasn't going to share them with a snooty 20-something-year-old. "We're leaving yesterday," he growled and turned away. "Aimus, come with me!" He didn't want to leave the boy with a bad influence.

Drxis would be able to find out when they were leaving and communicate that to Katrina. They would be leaving as soon as Cedric and his wife made arrangements, which should not take long. They had to gather provisions and say goodbye.

Katrina sighed aloud, not knowing what to do. She sat down on a rock and wished there was at least once decent human being around. Unfortunately, Cedrics wife seemed to keep to herself. She barely noticed that Drxisisliege sauntered off to a nearby field to stalk the area for some food. Katrina was just going to have to wait for Cedric to get tired of whatever little game he is playing.

OOC: "aimus" hasn't posted in a while

IC:

Cedric was back soon, but not with Aimus. "Aimus' mother had a different idea," he chuckled, forgetting that he was supposed to be snappy with Katrina. In under five minutes, the small ensemble was ready to leave-- Cedric, Drxis, and Katrina. Yep. That was it. What? It's not like they were mounting an attack!

Cedric had brought a sort of dragon-saddle fitted with food and clothing, among other things, and asked Drxis if she would wear it. "It will be morning when we arrive."

OOC: my next post can skip till they arrive if you want xd

"Well, I am sure you and I will manage on our own. Besides, now you do not have to worry, so it all works out in the end." Katrina smiled at Cedric, hoping the man would not concern himself with the matter any longer.
I will gladly wear the saddle Cedric. However, I suggest you put it on as Katrina has no experience with saddling creatures of my size. Drxisisliege was very calm and polite about the whole matter where Katrina had to quell almost indignation at having to saddle her dragon as if it was some type of pack animal. She soon got over it, covering it up by making a fuss over tightening the straps on the saddle bags.
"I'll watch so I can do it next time." she said absently. She knew if Cedric even sensed her pride, he would disapprove, which Katrina wanted to avoid for reasons she could not quite place at the moment.

Cedric barely had more practice than her. He'd ridden without a saddle a couple of times, but it had been uncomfortable, and there had been little in the way of carrying provisions. This solved those problems. And the best part was that he didn't have to worry about the older dragons bulging out their tummies like a tricky horse might to slip out of the saddle later.

He went slow enough for Katrina to watch him, and double checked the various ties and straps by giving them rough yanks. He offered Katrina a boost up, for even with Drxis sliding on her tummy, it was a bit of a stretch to try to get up that high without climbing all over the dragon's scaled legs. After that he rode behind her and hunkered down for the windy ride. At least the dragon's warmth would fend off the cold, high winds, and surely dragon travel had to be faster than any other kind of beast.

"I have no idea what to do when we're spotted, but there it is." Night was cresting into day as the precipice of a tall, fat tower illumined against the empty sky. Empty excepting them, of course.

When one of the archer-scouts on the top of the tower spotted them, his shouts ignited a fire of activity on the ground and inside through the windows. People on top of the tower, as they grew from the size of ants to the size of anteaters, scrambled out of the way, leaving the entire flat surface of the tower empty.

Ah, a landing pad!
PostPosted: Sat Nov 25, 2006 5:11 am

Drxisisliege casual ignored the scattering humans as they cleared aconvienent place for her to land. Using powerful back strokes to slow her decent, Drxisisliege seemed to hover a moment before touching down on the 'landing pad' as lightly as a grown dragon could. Katrina was impressed over all by the saddle, it made the experience of flying that much more enjoyable knowing there was at least something stoping your from just rolling over and plummeting to a ground that looked like a scale model...

It did not help their situation that dusk was falling.

Cedric laughed with glee as they landed, having little care for teh seriousness of the situation. Royaly's first reaction would be out of his hands, and he had great hope that it would be a good one, especially once they realized that Cedric was involved. The current king, his younger brother, felt indebted to him for not pursing his claim to the throne after returning from the dead-- from Feretris. They would have to get over Katrina.

"Le me off!" he laughed before they were quite stopped. A new set of guards, part of the king's elite, were filing up from the top floor and filling out around the border of the circular roof. The gaurds crouched, trying to minimize the risk of falling over the edge. There was no wall protecting them, but only circles of iron like chain links for griping in the floor.

Once he hopped off, he offered Katrina a hand down. "Welcome to the Tower of Kay. I'm sure my brother will be delighted..."

At that, an aged guard recognized him: "Cedric! Have you control of this beast?"

Beast? Oops. "No need to fear, men. If the dragon wants us dead, there is little to be done about it. Will the king come up or should we come down?"

The guard gave a slight bow of his head before disappearing below.

"I hope he comes up here. Our genius lizard can't come down with us."

Katrina accepted the aid Cedric offered for dismounting. She did so as gracefully as she could manage and was softly on the ground. The guard's slip of the tongue did not go unnoticed. Drxisiliege swiveled the massive head around and fixed the man with a reproving experssion which was undoubtably lost on someone who had never seen a dragon before.

Katrina did not immidiately participate in the reproving of the guard, who stayed with Cedric between him and the dragon. She was too busy taking in the physical features of these people, Cedric's people. For all her life she had noted the difference in skin, hair and eyes between her and pure bred Feteran women. She always felt an outsider because of it and her attachment to animals. Now, where those difference were so common, her Feteran blood marked her. She was quite the same complexion as Cedric and the guards, her features were similar...but still...different. It did not stop her from being civil, but it was a matter she would have to dwell on at some point.

"If he wants to make a good impression he should be advised to put in an appearance to the dragon." She said, more to Cedric than to the guards. "It wouldn't due to ignore the presence of what will indoubtable be the central subject of this visit." A man...in charge! Oh but Feteras would never dream of it.

"That is very true, yet what if he were afraid?" Cedric laughed, "or what if his entourage were afraid for him? He might be reluctant to go against the counsel of his people." Cedric shrugged. Even though he laughed, he was nervous. He was already making excuses for his brother, and the poor king hadn't even made a decision yet. It was Cedric's opinion that the king should come up immediately, for to do so otherwise might look bad.

Apparently the king knew as much, for the decision was swift, and soon the young man, his younger sister, and a handful of choice gaurds graced the tower top. "The guards will keep us from being disturbed," the young king announced briskly as soon as he appeared from below. "Light the torches, already!"

Small flames soon ringed the tower top about them. The king and his sister both looked excited but apprehensive, mirroring Cedric's look moments before. "Katrina, Drixisliege, meet my brother Harlan and my sister Maura."
