Muris snuggled against him, then accepted the flowers, giggling, "A secret admirer, huh? Well, hopefully he's you, as I don't think I could handle another one."
She smiled again as he noticed Aquae, putting a hand gently on the girl's head for support, "Aquae, Alcie is a very good friend of mine," she contributed.
Aquae studied Alces carefully before gently touching his palm-- as far as she could tell, that was what he wanted her to do, "My name is Aquae." her voice was still very young and hampered by her toddler tongue's newness to speech, but the words were still fairly well-formed for a child her apparent age.
"Aquae is also kithain to Shiaree." The idea wasn't surprising at all to the mouse fey, as she was well aware of the fey-like nature of her kithain's people.
"She asked me to look after her, as she can't always be in Tir Nan Og, and Aquae is still quite small to be wandering about on her own."

Alces looked down at the tiny hand that rested in his palm, smiling helplessly before wrapping his fingers around it. Though it was not on purpose, Alces thought the little girl was well on her way to becoming a proper lady, even from this young. He was suddenly reminded of the Lady Rose, and briefly wondered how long it had been since he had seen her.
This thought fluttered past like so many did, and he took Aquae's hand, pulling it gently forward and kissing the top of her palm. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Aquae. You speak so well for one so young, you must be as bright as the vivid colors your wings display!"
He let her hand go and stood back up, his eyes turning back to Muris and filling once more with affection.
"She's lucky to have you then, I'd wager. She's so smart, too.. and it's wonderful to see more of our kind come into the world."

Muris nodded her agreement, "It is good to see more of our people here. We wouldn't want to be overrun by the numbers of the Moon Court."
She shivered just a little bit, subconsciously, at the thought, "Though, I think it would be a while before Aquae here could be much help against -them-."
Aquae accepted Alces' hand kiss gracefully, letting her hand fall to her side after it. She didn't feel particularly inclined to add anything else, though, and so simply observed the two elders carefully. After a moment, however, she decided talking wasn't always bad, if it gave way to information, "Are you married?"

Without thinking, Alces rose his arm up to give Muris a quick, comforting hug when she shivered.
"Shiaree must be special indeed to have been entrusted as kithain to both of you. I've been meaning to ask her something the next time I see her, if she returns would you let her know I request a moment of her time?"
He spoke quietly, and cautiously, as though his mind was heavy with thought. When the small voice piped up from below them he turned to Aquae, but the words themselves didn't sink in for a moment or two.
"Me?" He asked at first, before he understood. ".. Us?" His eyes returned to Muris for a moment, and suddenly what the girl asked was clear as day. His cheeks tinged as pink as the rose petals at their feet, and his words stumbled over one another in reply. "Well, no.. that is to say.. not yet.. I mean.. not that.. ah.. well.. no."
Internally he chided himself for just how ridiculous he sounded, and he gathered his wits for a second to attempt a recovery. "I must regret, Lady Aquae, that I have not had the honor of being blessed with Lady Muris as my wife."
Smooth, Alces. Now if only he could stop blushing, he thought.. perhaps he could regain what little courage he had left.

Muris was also tinged a bright red, and she lifted Aquae up into her arms again, perhaps more for moral support than anything else, "Er. Yeah. No, Aquae, we aren't married. I'm sorry you got that impression."
She couldn't decide if she was more embarrassed by Aquae's question or by Alces' reaction to the question. Blessed with...? Not yet...? Well, she wouldn't worry about that just now. She was sure that sooner or later she would..well, that wasn't important.
"And yes, Alcie, I'll tell Shiaree. She should be around relatively soon, actually. She just had to make sure things were set back at the Ranch, as she does want to take an active hand in caring for Aquae just as she did with me when I was little."
Aquae furrowed her brows curiously. Well, hadn't they been acting like they were married? That's how her mother and father had always acted, anyways, with the kissing and whatnot. And she didn't know either of them, so how was she to know.
Adults were weird, "But you act like it. My mom and dad acted like that."
She snuggled against Muris when the woman picked her up. Weird and horse-loving or not, Aquae -did- really like the mouse-fey.

"Thank you." He replied quickly, bringing his hand back from around Muris and resting it against his shoulder while two fingers tugged at and twined his neckfur nervously. When Aquae spoke next, it was a welcome distraction, and he smiled at her words.
"Well, that makes a bit more sense. Your mother and father must have loved each other very, very much. And I do love Lady Muris." His eyes fluttered up to Muris for a brief second, offering her a tiny, knowing smile before returning his attentions to the child. His head tilted slightly as he watched her cuddle against Muris. They looked so cute together! His dangerous wandering mind couldn't help but think, even for a moment, that Muris would make a wonderful mother.
"So!" Alces chirped out brightly, attempting to sway himself from his thoughts. "May I be so bold as to ask what my Lady's plans are this afternoon? Have I stolen you from anything dire in my selfish need for your presence?"

Muris had to smile at Alces' comments. He was just so darn adorable with everything he said. And those big brown puppy-dog eyes...She snuggled Aquae absently, running her fingers through the little girl's hair, "No, you haven't. I was just reading to Aquae. I've finished most of the chores around the stable."
Aquae brightened at his, "I helped," she informed Alces carefully, "Clean things. Not horses." Aquae simply wasn't very good with the horses. She was too small to really help brush them or anything, and they made her a big edgy because of their size...which in turn made them edgy. Animals were like that.

Alces made a comical face of distaste. "Chores? Chores! On a day as lovely as this? You two should be out here enjoying it! I insist on stealing you both for the day, and I would be deeply hurt if you refused my offer."
He slid his hand into Muris', capturing it as his fingers intertwined with hers while he grinned softly at Aquae. "It's very sweet of you to be helping though, my Lady Aquae. Let's see if we can't find something to brighten your day in reward for such kindness."

The mouse-fey grinned, "You know that the horses can't just take care of themselves. I have chores every day," she said softly, kissing Alces' cheek and squeezing his hand gently.
Aquae smiled. She definitely liked this Alces, "Something fun? What?" she asked, squirming a little when Muris sneaked closer to Alces for her kiss, and then straightening when she finished.

Alces' cheek went rosy as it was kissed, and he beamed down at her happily. "Oh, of course I do. But that is still no excuse for you to deny my offer." Turning to Aquae, he winked and held out his hand, palm facing downward. "Well, when a day such as this presents itself, often those clever enough to take advantage of it do so with a stroll, or perhaps even more complex of an idea, a picnic. Would either of these please my ladies?" He finished this last question with a flourish, bowing regally from the waist as he awaited their response.

Muris smiled, "That does sound like quite a bit more fun than cleaning tack," she mused teasingly, Shifting Aquae around a bit to make herself more comfortable, "I should love to go on a picnic with you."
Aquae bounced in Muris' arms, "Oooh!" she squeaked. That did sound fun! She wasn't entirely sure what a picnic was, but it must be better than hanging about the stinky horse place all day.

Their response made him grin. "How fortunate, then, as I just happen to have noticed a basket filled with picnic goods here awaiting us. Quite the coincidence, isn't it?" He snatched the picnic basket that had been hiding behind a bushel of hay, and took Muri's hand. "And I think I know just the place." He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it, wrinkling his nose softly in affection before taking a few steps back and leading Muri and Aquae towards him. He turned and set a quick course for the valley, with a spryness in his step that signalled how content he was at the moment.
