The difference is in the pronounciations of the dagesh and the vowels.

In hebrew there is a mark called the dagesh that is added under certain cases to change the emphasis on the letter. You add it in the following cases -
1] After "quiet" vowels.
2] Special root-word.
3] A set form that requires a dagesh to pronounce it correctly.
4] A letter got "swallowed up".

There are a few letters in the alef beit that change when they have a dagesh in them according to BOTH ashkenaz and sfard.

The letter bet can be either an "v" sound or a "b" sound.
The letter pay can be either an "f" or a "p" sound.
The letter kaf can be either a "k" or a "ch" sound.

However, there are some letters, like the Taf, that in eshkenaz they pronounce "ssss" if there is no dagesh and "t" if there is. In sfard hebrew there is only "t", and it doesnt matter if there is a dagesh or not.

Another difference is when they pronounce the vowel of "kamatz" ALWAYS the same way, they pronounce their kamatz like the sfardic's "kamatz katan" or a "holam". Meaning, ashkenaz always use the "Ouh" form, and sfard use "Uh" or "O" form depending where its needed.

My English name is Laura, but my Hebrew name is Leora.

Leora means "I'm light", "To light", or "For light". So, basically, I'm full of goodness and stuffs. biggrin
