i find that the best material for making buildings and strctures out of is foamboard. it is a small sheet of foam wedged between wo pieces of card. 5mm foamboard is the best.

Another good cheep material is called roof/sheet flashing. Its very thin aluminum rolled up, it is used for roofing and can be found at your local home depot or lows for around $10 a roll. It can be cut with scissors, I highly recommend wearing work gloves while cutting and appropriate eye protection.
