" The island kahunas of Alola are hand picked by each island's guardian deity, and we can't refuse this duty once the Tapu has chosen us. Tapu Fini is the guardian deity for Poni Island. "Kahiau began as he was debating how to phrase his words. " We are charge of tending to our specif guardian's ruins when necessary and selecting new Trial Captains for our island. Island kahunas serve as the final obstacle in that particular island's trial and battle a Trainer in a Grand Trial. So if you are allowed to do the island challenge, I would be your last obstacle for the Poni Island part of the trial. He told the lad before he thought he heard a scream in the distance, most likely a pokemon screaming as it was very faint to them there in the in Poni Wilds area, not knowing that it was his sister screaming due to an injury.
" The island challenge is a rite of passage for Pokémon Trainers in the Alola region. Trainers can partake in these rites once they turn 11.The island challenge involves traveling through each of the four major Alolan islands to complete completing various trials on each island. By your looks, you might be too old to do the island challenge. How old are you exactly? " Kahiau asked him before his own Rockruff came of his ball. The Rockruff rubbed against his leg and Kahiau chuckled slightly at that.
Selene had Amalthea stop again at his his words... She began blushing at his words as they replayed in her head. Most of it was due to embarrassment. "You still support me, after all this time... Forgive me please for taking your words from earlier in the wrong way. Even before we met this morning, things have been stressful... " Selene said back to him, looking at him before looking away.
"Since the pokemon contests have started on Alola a month ago, we had been more active with people getting in trouble by either something they did or pokemon... The look and how you reacted to that I was a ranger reminded me a lot of the comments I had been getting. Most of them couldn't believe that I was enjoying doing this dangerous job when I could be an idol or try to reclaim the Kalos Queen title. You're too pretty for a job like this, go be a model. Similar sayings like that when this is what I want to to do with my life. I wanted to slap them all for those comments but I didn't. I gave them a smile as those comments drove stakes into my heart as they left the Ranger office.... I was getting a few comments like that before then but seems like it has tripled since the Alolan contests began..." Selene told him, even thought it's a month since it started. "Sorry for venting that anger at you when you didn't deserve it." Selene said as she was still blushing due to embarrassment.
Next, she took a couple of deep breaths to calm herself before looking back at him and hoped that she wasn't blushing as much now. Selene gave him a weak smile when he reminded her that she had beaten him in battle."That's true, I did beat you for once. I never realized how effective the move Attract would be against Judge." She began to chuckle slightly at what he said about Kahiau having Tapu Fini smite him possibly. A smirk came across her face before saying " Now that that sounds like a great idea! I'll be sure tell Kahiau that the next time I see him." She said teasingly at him, and had Amalthea go again before chuckling again with a big smile on her face.
"So it's like a gym challenge?" Dan asked to confirm. He assumed there were differences but he did not yet know what those were. It sounded like it might not only be Pokemon battling. "What do you do? What are the trials?" However, this Kahuna then noted that Dan might be too old for the challenge. Too old? Since when was that a thing? "Uhhh, I'm 15." He heard a noise in the distance but could not tell what it was and thought it might have been the cry of some Pokemon. He did not pay that much mind, and proceeded to be distracted when Kahiau let a Pokemon out of its ball. It was a canine looking thing. "Awww! Can I pet you?" Dan asked the Pokemon. He dropped to one knee and extended his hand to let the Pokemon sniff him if it wished, and to see if it would come closer or shrink away.
Pidgeot and Jolteon turned their heads in the direction of that distance scream. Being Pokemon, they were able to tell that it had not been the cry of another Pokemon, and so it must have come from a human. It sounded like distress. Pidgeot and Jolteon exchanged looks. "I'll go investigate. Stay here and keep our Dan out of trouble," said Pidgeot. She opened her wings and then jumped and went airborne. She circled her way higher into the sky and then flew in the direction of the scream. Jolteon nodded to Pidgeot and watched her go. Then he looked to Dan and Kahiau, and the new Pokemon that Kahiau had let out.
Dan saw Pidgeot fly away and wondered what she was doing. She was going in the direction of the sound they had all heard, so she must have been going to check it out. He was disappointed that he could not go with her, but he did not want to run off suddenly in the middle of a conversation. Or, more accurately, he did not want to investigate with adult supervision--that was boring--so he would wait until he could go investigate without arousing suspicion.
Pidgeot's sharp avian eyes allowed her to lock onto a pair of humans walking together even from a distance--or rather, one was walking and one was riding. There was no one else around, so the scream they heard had to have been coming from the female. Whatever had happened, there was nothing distressing going on now; the two seemed jovial. Maybe the girl had simply tripped or been startled by a wild Pokemon. She was the one who was mounted, and on something Pidgeot had never seen before: It resembled a Rapidash but not one that she was familiar with, not the kind with the fiery manes and tails. Pidgeot saw that there was a second Pokemon, a little Pancham riding on the Rapidash with the lady. Pidgeot continued to circle overhead and watch the humans and their Pokemon.

I deserve every but of your anger and then some. Merrimack thought to himself as Selene apologized for venting to him. As Selene moved onto asking her brother to set Tapu Fini on him he thought That's probably what I deserve, not like Tapu Fini would do it. Confirmed sightings of Alola's Guardian Deities where common enough, but as far as Merrimack could tell, they never really did anything of consequence - least of all at their Kahunas' behest. So he just laughed it off. "Gihi, I'd like to see him try. Most of time , even he has no idea where Tapu Fini is."

Selene enjoyed hearing his laugter again. A smile was on her face now and chuckled at his words back about her brother and Tapu Fini. "Ain't that the truth! As some of his friends from Unova would say. Kahiau goes to the Ruins of Life every morning at low tide to check on things there and rarely see Tapu Fini there. Most of the time when I do see the two together, there was injured pokemon involved. Every now and then, I'll spot her flying overhead at a distance." Selene said as they came to the edge of the Poni Wilds.
She was debating whether to stick to the path or take the shortcut. Selene opted for sticking to the path as it would take a little longer. This time together was a healing balm to her even though their time together started roughly. "The last time I remember seeing her her up close was when Tapu Fini choose him to take *Tutu Wahine's place as the Kahuna for Poni Island. " She mention as a sad smile came to her face at that.

"Yeah." Merrimack responded absentmindedly to her comments about Tapu Fini, not knowing what else to say. "Oh, let's go this way." He said, moving toward the short cut. "It'll get us to the Pokémon Center faster." He wanted to make sure Selene's wrist got looked at as soon as possible. Then there were the other things he needed to do... This walk with Selene was a special kind of torture. It was like all the years they'd been apart had washed away with the tide and the two of them could pick up where they left off. If only Team Rocket would wash away... He knew it wouldn't be long before he was back to his usual work and all this would seem like it never happened. And she's a Pokémon Ranger now... "I can see why people think you should be a model, you could make a lot of money with looks like yours - which is fine, but I don't think that's really the best use of your talents. Wouldn't you rather take care of Pokémon like they do at the Aether Paradise? Or work with Estelle as an Astro-whatever? You're at least as smart as she is. There's plenty of things a girl like you could do."

Selene pouted slightly as he headed towards the shortcut. "Spoilsport..." Selene muttered to herself but knew that she did need to get to the pokemon center sooner to get Dr. Zemaitis to take care of her wrist. A sigh escaped her lips as they went along the short cut.
Selene was about to say something else but the Sly spoke again. She chuckled at him trying to say Astronomer like Estelle was. " A Pokémon Astronomer, it's interesting but I rather be out here for now. While being Kalos Queen, I did do several modeling gigs, some for fun but most of them due to my sponsors requests. I tell ya, I rather be out here or at the Aether Foundation than doing another modeling jig. Some of those sessions were pure torture, using those eyelash curlers... It certainly pays well, and I got a nest egg saved up from them in a case of an emergency."She said as she remembered that she was supposed to do one soon.
"Damn, I actually do have a modeling session coming up soon due to the Alolan Pokemon contests. Even though I'm a judge this time and not a contestant. Hopefully it won't be as ridiculous as some of the ones I did in Kalos. One photographer tried to get me to do an lace underwear shoot but I couldn't do it then, won't do so now..." Selene said as she really hoped that the modeling session would be a short one.
"Thank you for thinking that I'm good for more than just a model Sly." She said as her right hand started up to hold her friendship necklace but pain in her wrist stopped it halfway. She groaned slightly at the pain before having her hand go back down again.

Merrimack's face turned beat red at the thought of Selene in lace underwear. "Y-yeah, n-no problem." He stuttered after she thanked him. Then went on more composed, "Hey, I know you can do anything." He felt another twinge of guilt noticing her start to mover her injured hand before pulling it back. "Sounds like these contests are going to keep you pretty busy for a while." That'll be good, it'll keep her out of the way while her 'partner' patrols the island. Maybe we can pull of our plan quickly, without her getting involved in any of this. Especially if Monitor focuses on the operation and doesn't get involved in the contests. But what are the odds of that...

Selene was watching him out of the corner of her eye to see what his reaction would be to the lace underwear.'Gihii, wished that I could have taken a picture of his adorable, beat red face of his... The stuttering was cute too. For now, I'll pretend that I hadn't notice it.' Selene thought with a smile that was slightly mischievous.
"It will be busy but not as hectic as I was expecting to be thankfully. Only one contest a week and where it held, is rotated through the islands. Yesterday was the second time that the contest was held at Melemele Island. Next week will be at Akala Island. Then Ula'ula and finally Poni Island before going back at Melemele. "She said as Selene hoped that that Team Rocket grunt Monitor doesn't make an appearance.
"I really hope that Morticia Monitor doesn't make an appearance here.... She caused me enough trouble back before I became Kalos Queen. At first, she was going after my shiny Braixen but at that time she was still a Fennekin. After I kept her from capturing Meloetta in Cyllage city, she kept coming back for the two of them. Then she disappeared.... I hope it stays that way.... She would be the one that I would want Tapu Fini to curse more so." She said with a slight frown on her face.

"Tell me about it." Merrimack reflexively answered her statement about Tapu Fini cursing Monitor. That blasted witch...That's twice now Selene's mentioned her. Monitor's really gone too far and...wait - WHAT DID I JUST SAY!?

"She would taunt me about how I was small I was compared to her womanly figure having bigger curves than I... She even suggested I go get plastic surgery done so I could get a man....That was after I got stood up by a guy the night before. I gave her that roundabout kick to her face that day. It was satisfying.... " Selene said before it sunk in that he might know her with how he agreed about having Tapu Fini curse Monitor. She turned her head to look at him and seeing his expression.
"What the Arceus?!?!? You know that witch of a woman?!?" Selene asked with a shocked expression on her face. 'Did they date? Is she the reason why he didn't meet me that day long ago??? s**t! I'm torturing myself just thinking that ... I hope to Arceus that they hadn't dated each other... If she had a better attitude than she does, it would be one thing but I couldn't see him going out with her with that attitude of hers...' She thought and just the thought of it, made her sick.. She shivered slightly at those thoughts.....

Merrimack kick himself for his slip up, and for letting himself get too comfortable with Selene. Even if he had no chance of a future with her, he still didn't want Selene to know what he'd been doing all these years. Did I say too much already? No, I can play this off, there's no reason for her to think I work with Monitor. "Unfortunately, yeah. If you think you're the only trainer Team Rocket's screwed with, I know of a kid with a Pikachu you need to meet." I didn't even have to lie about that. Hopefully that'll satisfy her.

A sigh escaped her lips after hearing what he said. "I know that I'm not the only one that been targeted by them. She had gone after some of the other trainers in the showcases as well. I did what I could to keep her from getting their pokemon too. That's how I first meet her, and wasn't until our second meeting that she saw Seraphina. " Selene said as those memories came to the forefront of her mind.
'Those days back then had been much simpler than things now... Almost wished I could go back to that... Only if he could have been there with me then though... '. She thought as she let go of the bridle with her left hand and it went up to the friendship necklace that she wore almost daily. It more of a habit at this point but she find it soothing to be able to touch it. The friendship charm that she had was representing moon spirit in a form of a white koi fish. While Sylvester had the black koi fish charm that was representing ocean spirit. "Do you still have it?" She asked him as she had Amalthea going again with using a gentle foot command.

She has no idea... Merrimack thought, feeling a mix of relief and guilt. When she asked 'Do you still have it?' it took him a moment to notice what she was touching, the friendship necklace he had the counterpart to in his pocket. A large part of him wanted to take it out and show her, but instead he said: "What, that weird Whiscash necklace, nah, I must've lost it somewhere. Maybe Judge ate it." Maybe it be easier to just tell her I'm in Team Rocket and let her hate me. But I can't...

She chuckled at the idea of Judge eating the necklace. "He wouldn't have eaten it. Judge would have played with it though and might have accidentally lost it due to playing with it. " Selene said as she thoughts went to Judge and was glad to see him today after all this time. ' Maybe more so than getting to see this Reckless Rhyhorn. But glad to see them both though.. ' She thought as they drew nearer to the Seafolk Village. She knew she needed to get her wrist looked at but still wasn't ready to part ways with them....
