Tsarine awoke with muscles and limbs aching as he stirred himself from a dense sleep. The hole he was gathered in with the others appeared to be gathering heat which meant day was upon them. For the moment, he seemed dazed till he remembered the precious cargo that had been entrusted in his care. Frantically his muzzle was already checking the swaddled infant in the pouch. Seems the pup was fast asleep which relived him with its tiny form inhaling and exhaling. Tsarine's mind wandered with the possibilities of what the baby would actually eat once the squeaking continued. For the time being he'd focus on Vitalia's quest till he was required to seek out nourishment for his adoptive pup.

Ears swiveling he heard Vitalia's command to start moving again.

"Ayala?" he spoke allowed wondering where his companion was. Being her home the Scuttle Scoot must of sneaked out over night. She was one that tended to go where she deemed important.

Then a voice responded as if on cue.

"Yes Tsarine?" she answered as if she had never been absent in the first place. Beside her she had placed a vile of something that would help them with their adoptive pup. Her lungs were rising and falling immensely, otherwise she was her usual self.

The young noulicorn was grateful for Ayala in ways he could never express. From the moment she attached herself to him he learned more as he was growing. Not only of size but mentality was expanding with her knowledge. Taking the pouch he placed it around is chest along with his other supplies Ayala had dipped over his head securing.Feeling the heat's tendrils trying to overtake the hole he knew they must continue their journey.

"Ayala..." he queried as she scurried up on his back, "Have you seen a large skeleton like the map showed?"

Momentarily, she paused pondering, "I'm not sure". I've not strayed everywhere in the Barrens, silly

"Alright. We'll keep a look out for anything that might help us find Wanderlust."

User Image The sun had barely started to peek over the horizon when Draven stirred from sleep. Bluebell laid atop the basket of supplies trying to keep out of the mud that was the floor of the hole. The canvas they had stretched out had kept most of the rain off of them, but some had still gotten in, Stretching from where he laid, the grey dappled buck nosed at Bluebell before moving to shove aside the canvas. Stepping out into the pre-dawn, he shook the dirt from his hide. Turning around he pulled the stones from the canvas and picked it up by the front pole.

While giving it a shake to release any mud, dirt or whathaveyou that had clung to it off, he laid it out to roll back up. Bluebell pulled the two long poles from the hole and placed them back where they belonged. While she was rolling the canvas, Draven fetched the basket from the hole. Giving a glance at all the other sleeping bodies, he went back topside to finish repacking. By this time, the canvas was rolled, stones packed and tired ready to be secured to his sides.

"Leave the edge of the canvas so that you can pull it up. It's going to get hot fast." He advised as he laid between the basket and shelter bundle.

If Bluebell had answered it was lost within the call of the elder whom was rousing and waking the others. He was standing with his supplies refastened at his sides, Bluebell finishing the ties under his belly. Soon she vaulted onto his back and took her normal spot. Seemed they were hunting for the large bones. At this point, Draven might have had an idea of where they were, but with all that had happened the previous evening he felt like they had gotten turned around.

Still he waited for the others, perhaps even taking a few steps away to give them all space to get themselves sorted out. Standing on one of the lower dunes, he watched the ever hazy horizons for anything that was to peek out at them. Hoping for at least a glance of the bones..

User ImageSleep didn't evade Dousan. It had been dreamless, but enough to shake the previous day's fatigue that had gripped him so. The light of growing day stirred him to waking. His exhaustion had been such that he had just fallen asleep however his body settled, but his muscles complained stiffly. Emerging from the crevice, the buck stretched and shook and moved around to loosen himself up again. As hot as it was, the heat, at the moment felt, nice against his back. It helped soothe his aches from the awkward sleeping position he had assumed in the close quarters of the crevice the search party had sheltered in.

Their next landmark to keep an eye out for was a giant skeleton. Hm. Surely, such a thing would stand out against this landscape. Dousan climbed to stand atop the nest mound to scan the horizon to get a better vantage point. Was this behemoth just laying on the surface someplace? Or was it half submerged in the baked earth? Were they to look for massive predatory teeth, for a cavernous ribcage? He narrowed his eyes against the glare of the sun. Turning slowly from his perch on the mound, Dousan kept his eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary.

Tempest had passed out rather quick. It did help that she tried to catch up with the group on her own and burned through her excess energy nicely. It allowed her to actually fall asleep punctually instead of tossing around. Regardless of when she falls asleep or how much sleep she gets, Tempest was up with the sun and bouncing around camp. Her energy had been renewed and she was ready to fully join in on this journey.

Even as the sun burned and blazed around her, it didn’t curb her enthusiasm. At least not yet. Tempest wasn’t fond of dry heat and was sure being out here would wane on her and even test her. This was a good thing. It would either make her stronger or break her. The unknown of it all thrilled her nonetheless.

As she pranced in place or back and forth in nervous energy, she watched the others rise and prepare to move out. It was now she was able to get a better look at the older winged doe who was leading them. Tempest’s head bobbed as she took in the doe and then observed the other nouls individually. Some had companions with them too. She’d not yet had the chance to really bond with a small creature like the jacks and scuttles. They where apparently handy to have around.

“Oh how cute,” she murmured looking at a jack hop. She then eyed a large grey buck with a take charge kind of attitude and tilted her head. Swiveling her head around she noticed that quite a few of the party where bucks. Huh….but there did seem to be some does in the group. Tempest started to prance in around the nouls, stopping to observe each one. Sometimes getting too close to one. Personal boundaries was a thing Tempest had issues with understanding at times. She was usually rebuffed for her invasiveness, which allowed her to realize how close she was.

After a moment, she realized everyone was standing about and looking….at….? Tempest paused in a fidgetiness and gazed around her. What was everyone looking at? Or maybe looking for? Was she suppose to be doing something? Did she not hear? Tempest hopped up on a small boulder to gain a vantage and looked out, mostly to mimic what everyone else seemed to be doing.

Adahy, Tsarine, and Dousan spot the white glare of what might be a massive ribcage, rising faintly in the distance. It’s located west of the group’s current location.

Dousan can make-out the detail of a jutting spine and horns.

Aldywn and Draven catch sight of movement in the distance, south of the group. At this distance it’s impossible to tell what it was, other then definitely alive and much larger than the dire rats the group encountered the previous night.

Tsarine noted first hand the sun was quite angry if not menacing. Soon as he stepped towards the bright light his coat began to bake. Scuttle Scoots from what he was learning survived by soaking in the rays around them. Far as the pup it slept peacefully with an occasional squeak or yip. Feeling at ease Tsarine now focused on finding those bones from the map. They'd be rather large of course showing him he was useful in finding things. Who was he kidding, anyway? Tsarine risked his life to seek the truth finding Pippen still nestled in his blanket.

Ayala loved the Barrens first thing in the morning. Her motive of stretching completely out on Tsarine's back helped her soak in that much welcomed heat. Her lithe body enjoying such a treat such as morning's first warmth. Long before Tsarine awoke Ayala had been out gathering things for the pup and their travels packing it with Tsarine;s things, She also took it upon herself to find a substance that could feed the infant once it started squeaking. It wasn't easy mind you though she had no problem finding leftover Dire Rat milk stowed away which she brought back with her proceeding to feed Pippen. At first the baby protested but Ayala was patient. Once Pippen was finally back into slumber she herself went looking for insects that wold tide her over.

Tsarine gazed outward to the West noticing something glistening white off in the distance. Surely, he was seeing things but the more he examined his find the more he swore on what he saw. Then it seemed to fade out in a haze over the horizon. Blinking he looked again not seeing his discovery. Perhaps he'd wait and see if anyone else was seeing things as well. For now Tsarine decided to stay quiet and keep a vigil over the rest of the rescue party.

User Image Draven squinted towards the south of the group. Something had caught his attention, something in the haze. At first he had thought it was the Dire Rats back for round two. But this was something larger then that. Much larger... Taking a few wary steps in the southerly direction, trying to get a better look at whatever it was just outside his vision.

As he went that way, whatever it was seemed to vanish into the haze. Was it just his imagination? Or had there been something there.. Frowning, he hated all this, it seemed that he brought in all the trouble there could ever be known to the Noul kind. It was really setting him on edge and he hated it even the more.

"And now I know why I always traveled alone. I never ran into this much trouble." He muttered to himself, probably only loud enough for Bluebell to take notice.

"And the most of these Nouls would have been rat food if not for you too." she pointed out making him only shake his head.

Turning away from where he had been looking, probably the worst idea he had ever had. Draven started walking in the direction that bones had been seen. Bluebell took up sentry on his flank, her keep eyes watching behind them for any other movements. She didn't think that her companion was going nuts. This heat and straight sunlight could do many things to a Noul and most the time it was never good...

To the West Adahy can just see white glare. It might be a ribcage but who can tell at this distance. Adahy can hear form other nouls that something not so good is behind them but what it is can only be described as larger then the dire rats. "Great just what we need." Adahy says with an eye roll. Furry Tail simple lessoning and the pup in the saddle bag was fast asleep. Hopeful this larger then dire rat creature is into nouls. Adahy thought to himself as he waited for Viltalta to decide what to do next.

Tempest wasn't seeing anything. Not that it was any surprise, she'd look out at the wavy horizon and then have to blink a few times and look away. Everyone seemed to be just looking around and waiting on a winged doe to give them guidance. They hadn't moved anywhere yet either. It was then her stomach growled a bit and she decided to rummage in her bag for a snack.

While she munched on her snack, she saw the large grey buck walk passed with a jack hop sitting on his backside. Her head tilted and she watched them. He seemed to be really trying to figure out where something was while the jack hop watched his back. Was he expecting something to sneak up on him? Casually she looked the way the jack hop was looking, but didn't see anything that way either. So she took a swig of water and then hopped after the grey buck, stepping into his hoof prints.

"Hi, whatcha doing?" she said to the jack hop on the buck's back.

searching for landmarks
+1 from rat fight not used

Aldwyn's grey gaze swept over the plains and landed on a blot of shadow moving toward them. It was impossible to make out exactly what it was, though its size and speed seemed to outclass the dire rats they'd faced yesterday. He glanced back to their group, all searching for some sign of where they might be. There were a few he didn't recognize from the previous day, so perhaps the shape was just another straggler? Though it could be something much worse...

He had to assume that while they were out here in the Barrens, in the clutch of the sun and dry earth, anything that came to greet them was not likely to be friendly.

Others seemed to be moving toward another shape, a large outcropping to the west. It seemed a wise thing to do, but Aldwyn couldn't simply move on without at least speaking up of what lay behind them. "There's something coming up behind us," he stated, notching his head in that direction. His eyes barely caught more than the movement. The wind carried no defining scents on the breeze, and the sounds were much too far off even for his large ears to pick up. "I'm not sure what it is, but it may be better to face it than to try and outrun it for who knows how long..." Especially with some of them still recovering from yesterday's fight.

If they spent the time between now and its approach deciding how best to handle it, maybe they would fair better than if they expended too much energy trying to outrun it. They could only move as quickly as their slowest member, after all...

As the others around her began to search - and call out their findings - Viltalta squinted through the sun’s glare to determine what they’d seen.

“We have two options.” She ruffled her wings as she spoke, a frown darkening her scarred face. “We can head toward the landmark or turn and face whatever is watching us, but we must stick together.”

Looking and forth between the two option, Adahy new his choice was really an easy one. He had had enough fighting for a whole herd of nouls at the moment. "I stay we press out toward the landmark." If whatever is behind us catches up to them then they could face it then. But for know Adahy did not want to get more injurers then he already had and those where just dire rats. "Do I get a vote Adahy?" Furry Tail said form Adahy's back. "Sure." he said knowing the young hop would vote the same way. "To the landmark then." Furry Tail said with a frim nod and a harder then his age voice. It was cute really but Adahy knew that Furry Tail did not want to see anyone get hurt anymore.

User Image So it would seem that he hadn't been seeing things as it was made known to all that they had something following them. Snorting slightly to himself, Draven glanced around to everyone else. Seems that a couple want to head for the landmark. He felt that was a good choice, if there was something following them then they could use the bones to have something at their backs. The fight with the rats was sloppy, even for something that happened in the dead of night. He was one for heading for the landmark. If whatever it was that was following them now continued, they could dispense with it there.

Bluebell's ears flicked at someone seemed to be talking to her. Taking her gaze off the direction directly behind her companion she looked at the Doe that stood close to the side. Bluebell wasn't much for explaining things to others, she had mostly left that to Draven, but his mind was mostly on one thing. This left it up to her to talk to the Doe. "Protecting my partner's back. He keeps an eye out for forward attackers while I make sure that no one sneaks up behind." She put it simply. "Don't need a mess like last night with Dire Rats. Those buggers were everywhere..." She paused for a moment and looked back outwards. Scanning the area...

The buck didn't seem to notice her invasive presence but the jack hop, female it seems, gave Tempest a moment of her time. Must be handy to have a friend to watch your back, she thought to herself. Tempest had a hard time making friends with other nouls as a foal. A lot of them didn't like how high energy she was, her inability to give others personal space and that she sometimes played rough. One reason she never really seemed to admit was her sometimes abrasive attitude, her need to rock the boat, stir the pot, call others out. Tempest felt that if they didn't take her at her worse, they don't deserve anything good out of her. A friend was out there for her, but she doubt it was from among this ragtag group.

"Dire rats?" Tempest finally said to the jack hop. "I caught up to the group after that. I seem to have missed something exciting...been kind of boring so far."

Her ears swiveled around and it seemed everyone was casting votes on what to do. Continue on wards or turn and face someone.

"Are we being followed? I could use some excitement, but usually it's best to make sure you have the upper hoof in a conflict."
