Somehow during his moment of relaxing in his chair, nearly everyone that was standing right near him were now randomly spread out within the market, Jean had gone off to make his cloak, Zuhra following behind like a lost puppy with a dropped pelt which made Lupus laugh slightly before he turned to look at Masako who had at some point stood up and walked off to draw apparently. Reaching up to scratch the back of his head he looked around once more before standing up and moving off to the side of the area where no one was at. He wanted to at least be out of the way in case people came rushing by, he did in fact take up a lot of space in the street.
After a while Jean emerged from the workshop he retreated to, large wolf cloak in hand. With a wide smile Lupus stood up swiftly, taking large strides to reach him before his hand reached forward to gently grab the cloak from his hands. Swinging it around he put it on slowly, making sure it was all set right and tightened properly before letting a wide smile spread across his face. His huge frame was already a somewhat intimidating thing before, now you add on the wolf cloak and it seemed to give him a primal ferocity. Reaching forward he patted Jean on the shoulder gently, giving the man a wide smile before letting out a booming laugh as he watched the lovestruck Zuhra for a moment, now that his cloak was done he was past being angry and instead was amused with the man and his new love. Walking over to the man he would wrap one arm around his neck before grinning and speaking. "Let's go, we need to do more missions since we got halted last time. We need money for food and some better equipment."

Love is but such a fleeting feeling, as Zuhra was coming to know. The poor Ancestor had already learned that there was three stages to the so called love emotion. The first you experience is puppylove, followed by pain and betrayal, and lastly, sweet sweet revenge. Oh boy, when Jean walked outta that shop and ignored him and the pelt and walked over to Lupus to deliver the goods to him that was the final straw, Hell hath no fury like a vampyboi not getting the succ.❝Well, I guess since Lupus gave you the pelts and said you could keep the excess, but you didn't want this one back so it's mine now, but I don't have a need for it and I'm really cold right now, so I could use a good fire to warm me up and fur should make some good kindling..❞
Zuhra glared as he folded the pelt in half and tucked it under his arm as he reached down and grabbed his flint and steel from his bag of holding, giving it a few strikes to produce a few sparks to make sure it still worked before going to position the tools over the pelt as Lupus anchored his arm over the shoulders of Sir Vampsalot. Oh yeah, Masako was here too.❝If you're cold Masako you should get over here, it will be warm soon.❞

Zuhra was right there below him, but when Jean looked at him now, he felt nothing. Nothing at all... except anger. This was the man who stabbed him and made him feel strange things he no longer felt. His gaze hardened as his suspicions began to form, but Lupus was quick, and before long, he had grabbed the cloak out of Jean's hands. As Jean watched him don his handiwork, a smile came to his lips unbidden. Yes, this was exactly what he had in mind. Not as spectacular as his previous creations, but he was getting there. It wasn't his ideal type of beauty, but this was what fit the giant in front of him. Jean gave the giant a satisfied nod and simply added, "It looks good on you. Come back when you have finer materials and I'll see about upgrading it." Further words would be wasted.
Besides, his attention was unfortunately attracted by an insect almost as soon as Lupus's euphoria passed. Looking down upon this dark-skinned beauty, feeling that his appearances were such a waste for such rotten insides, Jean's eyes narrowed as Zuhra dared to threaten the wolf pelt. It was a valuable resource that he needed to further his skills. He would miss it if it disappeared, yet at the same time, perhaps because of his spoiled upbringing, he was more willing to part with it than his pride.
Jean still didn't fully understand what had gone through his mind moment's earlier, but he had every reason to blame it on some sort of trickery on Lupus's end. To harm his body and tamper with his mind. As he, himself, was his mother's creation, Jean could not forgive such transgressions. Moreover, manipulating his emotions and mind truly left a bad aftertaste. People... truly could be the worst, and Jean's dislike for the man was only fanned by the latest words spoken.
His pride unwilling to bend, Jean coldly replied back, and this time at a temperature that dropped with pure disdain rather than a forced front to hide internal heat, "Oh, apologies. I thought you were trash. I don't pay much attention to wastes of space, so I thought the pelt was just lying there by itself. You can keep it. Consider this as charity to a fool if your brightest thought is to warm yourself up by setting a wolf pelt on fire. Enjoy your temporary comfort, good sir." His bit said and his actions explained, Jean scoffed and continued to look down at Zuhra.
Truth be told, while he was more willing to part with the wolf pelt than bend the knee, he still wanted it. It was rightfully his, after all. He'd give Zuhra a bit to change his mind. He supposed he'd be willing to take a shot at making Zuhra a cloak. Ugly as he was in Jean's eyes now, Zuhra's appearance struck a fine figure as a model closer to Jean's tastes than Lupus had been, and in these backwater times, he didn't get many opportunities to work with such models.

_______________Trouble Brewing... ||
While Jean and Zuhra were busy insulting each other, a conversation from a passing pair may have caught Lupus's attention. One of them wore leathers and carried a bow, suggesting she was likely either a hunter or a scout. "There have been a lot more yokai patrols coming closer to the town."
The other, who wore everyday--albeit weather appropriate--attire, nodded with concenr. "They know we're here, so maybe they're testing just how far they can go before we fight back. After all, there are a lot more of them than there are us."
The hunter glanced around briefly, but not in Lupus's direction, poorly checking to see if anyone was listening. "I heard from the north gate that there's a pretty tough looking patrol at the next abandoned settlement up the mountain. They're just sitting there. Waiting for something maybe? Or maybe they're up to something." She rubbed her arms as if to fight off the chill, but it was obvious this was a chill that went deeper than the skin. "They aren't saying anything so as not to scare people, but... I'm worried."
It was then that the berating seemed to draw the pair's attention, and, upon seeing Zuhra taking a flint and steel to a pelt, their eyes widened and they moved on, pretending they hadn't seen anything.
Trouble Brewing Rank: C Requirements: None. Party recommended. Objective: You heard a rumor about a 'tough looking' yokai patrol that had made its camp at one of the abandoned settlements between Ikeinasu and north to the gates of Tsukihara. Perhaps it would help the guards rest easier if the patrol was removed from its station. Rewards: Exp and loot based on combat.
[PS: We're just going to use the Tsukihara Capital Outskirts, since there's no point in making a thread just for the road leading up--it still counts as outskirts, I think.]
Examining himself more in-depth Lupus gave a satisfied smile, fully happy with the cloak now that he was done seeing it and making sure it fit properly. When Jean mentioned coming back with more materials to upgrade it his eyes shined briefly before he rummaged in his sack to retrieve a single samehada scale from within, showing it to Jean before speaking loudly. "When you can work with this form of material I'll come see you about some upgrades, but for now the pelt should work. If you're interested in the scales I have a hefty amount still. "With that said he watched Zuhra and Jean interact before shaking his head slightly, mildly amused yet also finding Zuhra's attitude somewhat childish. In the end it didn't matter much to him, and with that in mind he laughed before turning his attention away out of boredom. Despite his ears not being as good as Zuhra's he managed to just barely overhear a set of hunters talking to each other however they ended up running off when Zuhra began to light a pelt on fire.
With a shake of his head the Stragari stood up straighter, reaching over to scoop Masako up and onto his shoulders before turning to speak to Zuhra. "I have to imagine you overheard that man and woman? If not then we have a potential mission to check out. If you're done with your toddler squabble we can go ask around about it. "With that said he would look at Jean and Zuhra before focusing on Zuhra since even though he had crafted the cloak Lupus didn't know Jean or anything about him. So he wouldn't really trust bringing him along, at least not yet.

Zuhra's eyebrow twitched in in visible anger as his eyes sharply narrowed and fixed themselves on the once appealing now insufferable person in front of him. With his jaw clenched and a vein protruding from his temple the young Ancestor struggled to keep his vexation in check but managed to bite through it. Taking the hand that held the steel he would pinch at the bridge of his nose as he took a deep breath.❝Look, I'll give it back to you if you just make the ******** cloak,❞he attempted to negotiate as he stowed away the fire making tools back into his pouch while extending the wolf pelt out with his other hand with a firm grip.
The silver and golden infused liquid ran it's way back up his body and covered Zuhra back in the armor he had on before, save from the helmet as it was getting cold and he needed at least some temporary protection from the wind. Should Jean agree and make it, Zuhra would closely follow the male to his workshop while he made it and promptly leave after receiving it to reconvene with Lupus and Masako outside, but if he was rejected then into his pouch it went until he could get enough coinage to get it made elsewhere.
(( Aaron said we could skip him this round since he was grabbed by Slakko ))

When Lupus attracted his attention momentarily to tell him about the Samehada scales, Jean's eyes lit up with intrigue. "Yes... These... I don't feel confident in my handiwork enough to use them yet, but certainly. I'll let you know once I'm ready."
Then it was back to Zuhra.
With merely a nod to show he had heard Zuhra's words, Jean took the cloak from Zuhra's hands and turned back into his workshop without a second glance back. Well, without a second glance back until he tried to close the door, only to find that something, namely Zuhra, blocked it, either intentionally holding it open or unintentionally getting hit by it. Jean frowned at this intrusion, but said nothing, and merely turned back around to continue in.
His work was quick and efficient. First, turning the pelt into leather, then cutting and stitching the leather to create the base for the cloak. He spent a few minutes flipping through and drawing in a sketchbook before beginning the cuts, supposedly to plan out a design. Impatient as Zuhra might have been, in the end, it turned out to be worth it. Whether it was because Lupus was giant or because Zuhra was just that good of an inspiration, the cloak Jean had made appeared to be much better than Lupus's despite the clear animosity Jean held towards Zuhra. [1/1] [Tier 1 wolf cloak; 3/7 wolf pelt uses] [Tier 1; Rank 2] [masterwork]
Of course, Jean didn't expect a "thank you." His rotten preconceptions aside, he knew the sort of consequences his prior attitude brought. He simply handed Zuhra the cloak as part of the business deal and, if Zuhra was nice enough to put it on in front of Jean, savor the finished product. Indeed, it truly was a shame that Zuhra was rotten on the inside.

Jean bonked Zuhra with the door as he headed into the workshop and once both were inside, the taller of the two would close the door behind them while craftyboi went to do crafty things. Leaning against the door while he waited, Zuhra had nothing better to do but watch the work process that went into making the cloak, from the transformation to leather, the sketching and planning process, followed by the cuts and finishing touches. As heated as he had been, Zuhra still had enough of a proper head on his shoulders to notice the fine work that had been completed by Jean, so much so that he could say his might have been even better made than Lupus'.
As cold as he may have been, as a person not the way he was currently feeling due to the weather, even Zuhra couldn't find it within himself to stay angry and even felt the tiniest bit of guilty. Doing Jean a favor he would quickly don the new fashion statement that was to keep him warm in these trying times, and took a gander at himself while he modeled it off to see how it looked when properly worn instead of just laying on a work table. Zuhra would scratch at the back of his head and grumbled to himself before turning to leave, but stopping himself at the door as he reached into his bag of holding and pulled out singular wrapped candy cane and placed it on the table near the exit.
❝It's not much but, it's.. nutritious you could say. Tha-,❞The last bit trailed off as he quickly made his exit and went to regroup with the others now officially protected from the cold and looking like a snacc.❝What were you saying about what the people who walked by were saying,❞Zuhra asked as he sauntered on up beside the dos comprades.

Jean stared at the candy cane left behind. Well, better not to waste it. Jean pocketed the candy. After Zuhra left, not wanting to cross paths with him, Jean left through the back door. Though, right before that, he brought out the clothes he wanted to give to Shea and neatly folded them.
Having spent the majority of time in the crafting district, he knew how to get around the place, using the back allies even if need be. He also knew the haunts the different artisans tended to be at. Shea, he'd noticed, tended to practice most of his crafting in one particular workshop. In these three months, Jean had cemented that he liked the boy... just not the antlers. He shuddered at the thought of those terrifying, twisting, branched appendages, so similar to the tentacles he feared even more. Needless to say, he was hoping to just leave the stuff he'd made for Shea without having to actually see the boy.
Of course, Jean didn't knock when he entered Shea's usual workshop. Shea wasn't supposed to be there, after all. (Gods know where he got that confidence from.) Except Shea was. Oh no. Shea was definitely there, and to make things worse, it seems his antlers had grown half a centimeter since the last time Jean had the bad fortune of seeing them, something he generally avoided by looking at everything but Shea's face on the rare but not entirely distasteful occasions Jean spoke to him. Jean's face paled, almost as if he was the one who had been stepped in on unannounced and not the other way around as was the real case. In a panic, Jean threw the neatly folded capelet in his arms Shea's head. "Hurry up. And wear that," Jean spoke in the tense voice he usually had whenever he talked with the deer, "Before you scare me to death."

I'd barely finished working on the last of the four gems when to the shop opened, the door complaining as it did, making me jump from the sudden noise. People usually didn't visit, and even if they did it wasn't without knocking. I turned wide eyes toward the doorway to see who had barged in.
And blinked when my gaze fell across Jean. Although we'd spoken to each other on occasion over the last few months, he still actively avoided interactions due to his fear of me. Well, not with me specifically but the protrusions attached to my head. And since they were on my head, it made it kind of hard for him to look at me without blanching like he was right then. We stared at each other for several heartbeats before he seemed to finally compose himself enough to throw something at me, just as I'd opened my mouth to speak.
I wasn't sure why I expected the impact to be hard. I couldn't imagine the pale-haired young man to intentionally try to hurt me, but I flinched regardless, which was hidden by the pile of cloth as it landed on my head. Beyond it, I heard Jean tell me to put it on. So shuffling it around for a moment, I oriented it the way that seemed right, pulling the hood of the capelet over my head, concealing my antlers, while the rest of the fabric fell over my shoulders. I tied it closed in the front and turned my gaze back to Jean. "Ah... thanks?" I said questioningly. I understood the intention, and if it made him feel better then that was fine. Besides, any small amount of additional warmth was nice, especially since most of the humans' hats didn't fit me.
Jean grunted. An elegant grunt, of course. More of a huff than a grunt, honestly. Anyways, once Shea had his horns covered, Jean was able to bear looking at the deer enough to appraise his own handiwork in motion. It was... slightly lacking. The capelet was the right size, but its measurements were off enough that Jean could see almost immediately how he could tailor his work to better complement Shea. A tuck there, a stitch here, a pattern at the hem.
It was too bad that, aside from the pattern at the hem, the rest required that Jean take actual measurement, and though he may be willing to look now, he was far from willing to touch.
Before long, the steady, half-lidded gaze from the pale crafting shut-in ended. Would Shea think it creepy like the sprite did? Who knows. Jean didn't care to be bothered by such opinions. While it was hard to call Shea beautiful in the same way that the sprite or Zuhra were, his appearance was still good in its own way, and more importantly, his kindness and earnestness made him an interesting subject in Jean's eyes.
You know, it was just that he usually had a hard time keeping Shea in his eyes.
*shudders* "Ugh. Antlers." *shudders*
"It's more for my benefit than yours," Jean made no attempt to hide his honest thoughts as he finally spoke after giving Shea the once over, and to thank Shea for bearing with his conceit, though he didn't bother phrasing it as such, he asked, "Your headband should be getting ragged by now, right?". Jean actually didn't know because he never actually looked at Shea's head, and even now, the capelet's hood hid most of it. Of course, this was Jean. There was no polite waiting for Shea's response. Nah, the words just continue rolling out without any regard as the p***k pulled out the headband he had just recently made, "I happened to stitch a headband that should be better than what you have now. I'll just give it to you." Shea could wear it, or if he didn't particularly care to wear either it or the newly carved amethyst Jean caught sight of, he could use the headband to practice, hopefully successfully, setting the amethyst. Jean would find either use acceptably appeasing to his sensibilities.

The intense stare Jean gave me was one that only an artist judging their work could give. I was something that I'd learned a small bit about in my time there. I had a natural hand for the various crafts the place had to offer, so I could see where he was coming from. He didn't seem particularly pleased--although it was hard to tell because he always looked grumpy--but guessing the size only worked so well.
He finally tore his gaze away with a shudder that I assumed had to do with my antlers and moved on. He mentioned it was for my benefit, which brought a small smile to my lips. But then he brought up my headband. My hand moved to the old and faded fabric I used to keep my hair out of my eyes. There was nothing really special about it; it was plain, bore no symbols or fancy designs or anything. But it was my most treasured possession aside from my amulet, given to me by my best friend. Given back to me later by... someone. Someone who had trusted me, despite... A small throb of pain stopped me from thinking any further on it. Another reminder there were things I wasn't meant to remember. Regardless, I knew it had somehow survived a very long to and had been through many adventures.
My gaze moved to the piece of fabric he claimed was 'better' than what I had. While he wasn't wrong, he couldn't understand the significance the one I owned had to me, nor, I felt, would he care. He didn't seem the sentimental type, after all. If it weren't for the limited supplies the town had, I felt that he would wear different clothes every time I saw him.
I nodded toward the table to let him know he could set it down if he wanted, so he didn't have to come any closer. "If you want...," I started, looking back at Jean, "I can make the adjustments. Or I can take my own measurements and give them to you. The Veldt have always had to have a bit of unique designs for their clothes, because, well... you know." I didn't want to trigger any more panic in him than needed, so I neither explained what I meant by Veldt, though he could probably guess that I meant 'people like me', nor did I mention the word 'antlers'. "Whatever works best for you."
Upon receiving the option to simply set the headband down on the table, Jean was more than happy to do so over walking withing goring range of Shea, he knew Shea would never but still, to hand him what essentially amounted to a thank-you gift. As the length of designed cloth was set upon the table, Jean's eyes raised as Shea just began to speak. They raised up to the deer boy's chest and then stopped. In place of studying his face like others might when listening to him, Jean settled with just studying the pendant that hung from his neck.
Jean didn't move until Shea stopped speaking. He straightened his back and crossed his arms in front of his chest. There was a quiet moment, Jean mulling over the decision with his eyes closed. The perpetual frown his face appeared to be in deepened at sporadic moments between his thoughts. Honestly speaking, in these three months, he'd come to terms with the idea that, if Shea didn't have his antlers, Jean would actually like to take the opportunity to craft something for him. Well, take the opportunity to craft after he'd gotten his hands on materials that weren't simply plain cloth. However, therein lied the problem. The antlers. Jean didn't feel comfortable even drawing them out on paper for concept sketches.
Not sure of his own answer, Jean came up with an excused instead. His annoyance at himself painting his voice to sound a little aggravated, and thus snobbish considering the content of what he was about to say, Jean scoffed, "At this age, aren't these bodies still growing? Measurements will probably become inaccurate after little more than a week passes." Despite it being just an excuse here, Jean actually found this whole growing thing to be quite annoying. He'd caught his body measurements changing several times these past few months, which then required him to make adjustments to his own clothes. He'd never had to go through this in the past. He was created in the shape of an adult's body and everyone he was surrounded by since his first memories were, likewise, also adults who no longer changed so dramatically within the span of a single year.
However, what he had to say wasn't all bad. Opening one eye to peek at Shea (or his chin, at least), Jean sounded not as snobbish as he asked a question he had been hodling in since Shea's second sentence, "What about these Veldts and their clothes, though? What kind of unique designs did they have?".

Jean seemed thoughtful for a moment. His gaze still avoided mine though, despite my antlers being hidden by the hood of the caplet he'd made. Covering them up didn't mean they didn't exist after all. When he finally did respond though, he pointed out that we had bodies of children that would probably grow out of any adjustments within a few weeks. My head tilted slightly to the side in thought. "I hadn't considered that." After all, I was still used to the idea of being older and as tall as I was going to get. Even if my memory of being older was fuzzy. All in all, it was probably best to just leave the capelet big, because i'd probably grow into it within weeks, if not, months.
Jean's tone changed as he continued, sounding less like a jerk and more genuinely curious. He wanted to know more about the clothing we wore. Well, the Veldt specifically. I smiled cheerfully, happy to talk about my home to someone. "Beastlings in general tend to wear loose clothing, since it gets so hot out on the plains for a good portion of the year. For the Veldt specifically, adults especially, have bigger..." I trailed off, failing to find another way to say 'antlers', and instead held my thumbs to the sides of my head, fingers splayed. Ah... I couldn't help feeling that demonstration wasn't any better. Anyway. "Shirt collars are typically wider to allow the head to fit through without snagging. Even then, especially for children, that's a common occurrence. The heat also means most outfits are sleeveless. The other option is buttoned shirts or shawls or something. Then of course a hole in the back of the pants for tails, which is pretty standard for a lot of Beastlings, except maybe Derth..." Oh, right. "Um... Bears."
