Samantha turned bright red, caught in an eye lock by a stranger and not knowing what to do with herself. She tried to look away, but her panic made that seem impossible. Of course the pretty young woman she was staring at would know, and looking away would just make it seem creepier!

But staring intently was not making it any better, either. The other girl waved and Sam heard herself speaking a little too loudly, over a mess of other voices that were not as difficult to hear through as her tone now implied.

Panic volume.

"U-uh... th-there's an empty seat over here, if you're in need of one," she stammered, finally dropping her gaze and staring intently at her own feet. She held her hand to her chest, though not out of her usual shyness-gesture. It was hurting. Maybe she should have told the receptionist that it was probably broken, and not that she just thought she might have hurt it a little...

Not wanting to impose probably dropped her to the bottom of the list.

Maybe if she continued to stare at her feet, she could just lose track of time and be called to get seen to. Somehow, she doubted this massive line that seemed to be forming would move in a hurry just to abate her self inflicted embarrassment.

Hello, stranger!

Turning his head, a smile flashing to his face immediately, thinking he was about to be greeted by someone or at the very least make eye contact with them, Grant was surprised to find only a man walking away from him. Weird, he could have sworn he'd been closer, or watching, or something.

Well, he waved anyway, just in case he'd not been paying enough attention, and the smile he caught on the man's face as he turned a corner was enough to put Grant at ease. Who was he to judge how very creepy it had been? People couldn't help the smiles they were given, right?

Grant continued to smile brightly as someone approached him, lifting his hand and waving it rather furiously next to his face in greeting. He chuckled, not too shy about anything these days. Not that he ever had been: even mistakes and embarrassments were a-okay with him so long as he made people smile and feel better about themselves.

It was sort of his calling.

"Do I look that confused? I bet I do! I was just thinking, I have no idea how I'm supposed to find someone when I don't really know them that well. And it's so busy here! I thought maybe I could walk right in and help some friends out, but I think maybe that was a little too optimistic, even for me!"

He grinned at her brightly, offering her his hand. He looked her over and realized she was already bandaged, and felt an immediate urge to help further.

"Oh! Are you okay? Were you already treated here? I've never been to this clinic, but it seems like they must do good work if everyone wants to come here!"

Toren Estel

Toren didn't usually go to The Center for such minor injuries. While he had frequented the Center a lot, it wasn't for small wounds. Cuts and injuries he could take care of himself were done at home. After all these years as a Negaverse officer then knight, he learned how to set bones, pop back in joints, stitch flesh, and had a collection of pain killers and antibiotic he bought either illegally online from fishy overseas websites or from corner street medics with a loose set of morals and bills to pay. Sometimes he went to a few doctors he knew in the city who, due to coming overseas to the United States, no longer had valid licenses.

The only reason he was in today was because a stray dog they were assessing at the shelter had turned on him and bit his arm. It wasn't the worst he ever felt, but policy was that if it caused blood, you went to the doctors and had it filed on paper. So he sat in a chair, a bandage from the shelter wrapped about his lower arm, waiting to be called. It was late and he knew it would take all night which really annoyed him. A whole patrol night down the drain. What a waste.

Caerwyn Hesperos

There was something to be said for knowing what the ******** was up with his health, Caer supposed. Being sick was one thing, but he was sick all the time, and he and Salem had finally gotten him checked out, and...there it was. Apparently, at some point in the life he no longer remembered, he had lost his spleen, and its absence left his immune system a mess.

Which was just great. It meant he knew what precautions to take....but it also meant that an open would on patrol, even a minor one, was an emergency. So when he cut his calf in a fight, he hadn't exactly resisted Salem scooping him up to carry him to The Center.

Not that he would ever say no to being carried by Salem, really.

"I think you can put me down now, Ale. I can walk to the counter from here." He said, gently.

Mathias shook his head and made a face at his wife when she pinched his arm.

"I'm not annoyed," he said, which was true - kinda. "And I know I dragged you here - because if I didn't you'd be at home possibly bleeding all over everything and then were would we be?"

The question being rhetorical, he raised his free hand in a placating gesture.

"I'm just tired, been pulling a few too many long nights is all."

Otto Moor

He snorted softly, but it lacked any real conviction. "Repay you with more worry? That makes total sense." It was grumpy and he knew it, but he was getting tired of sitting there. "And you wouldn't dare," he added, not as sure about that as he'd have liked to have been.

His fingers slid along hers where they rested on his thigh, listening quietly, but he lifted his head to look down at her when she admitted that this was the first time she could remember stepping foot inside a hospital. Otto supposed it was possible that she just hadn't had need before now, but it seemed incredibly unlikely. Besides that, something about her tone or phrasing suggested a different reason altogether. Which she confirmed as she continued on.

"I didn't know you'd started out with them." The White Moon. Otto had been told he had as well, that he'd been a knight before Labyrinthite had brought him over. When he powered up he still had a little Mercury bauble on his wrist, but had no idea what it was or where it came from. "What did you forget?" Pale eyes lingered on her face. "You don't have to answer that, I'm just...curious."

A pair of nurse chose that precise moment to pass through the little examining area they'd been sitting in and one of them stumbled, catching herself on Otto's knee, and he reached out automatically to try to catch her arm. "Jesus, are you okay?" She stood again--stepping gingerly--and apologized. Then she and her friend were hurrying off before Otto could reassure either of them that he was fine, that no apology was needing, and <********> He should have asked one of them how much longer they'd have to wait!

"Damnit." Anger and annoyance flared up, but fizzled just as rapidly, and the man slumped back against the wall, suddenly half exhausted. "Are you sure we can't just go home?"

So many eyes were on him. He wished he wasn't so aware of it. Of all the things to hone in on, he wished it could be Rhys. But no, it was the stares he noticed with a razor precision awareness, as if every direction he turned, there were varying degrees of horror and pity reflected back at him from irises of every color and shape. Even Zachariah: Hitch could feel it, the lingering gaze that made his insides crawl.

He'd been breathing hard from the start, but the more it got under his skin, the harder it seemed to be; the longer time went on, the more shallow and frantic it got.

Hitch acknowledged Zachariah with what he hoped was a sympathetic look - then opted for a nod, instead, nodding worked because it was hard to give ******** sympathetic looks when he was ******** bleeding everywhere with one ******** eye in his head.

Why ain't the doctor here yet? - why am I still ********' waitin'? - ******** it hurts, it hurts -

Zachariah's words washed over him, and in a voice that didn't really feel like his own, he kind of laughed. Except it wasn't really a laugh at all. Ironic ******** choice of words. "Death is mercy, " he choked out quietly, the memory pouring out of his lips like blood from his missing eye. "That's what she said. That's what she ********' said to me."

He nodded kind of numbly again that sure, Zachariah could stay. A friendly face. Someone who cared. He huddled further into Rhys still with a low hiss, squeezing his hand harder, shutting his one eye to try and shut out everyone else's face. He was basically checked out of the exchange between them, his foot slowly tapping against the floor at first, then faster and faster until he finally half-shouted in his ragged voice, "Where the <******** IS THIS ********' DOCTOR? FOR ******** SAKE, IS ANYONE GONNA ********' HELP ME?!?!"

Grumpy, yes - but she smiled fondly in response, squeezing his thigh and laughing softly to herself. "Don't make me do something you'll regret, handsome~" she trilled sweetly.

Desdemona didn't totally know how to feel about the way he looked at her when she admitted to it. Maybe this hadn't really been the time or place to talk about it, but then there it was. She shrugged her shoulders lightly in response, a light smile on her face. "It's fine, " and it really was; it was a long time ago now, after all. "Pretty much everything. My transition was... rough." To put it lightly. "I remember bits and pieces - nothing good, though."

Most people didn't ask. And why should they? What mattered was Amphitrite now, not the pathetic thing she'd been before. - come to think of it, how long had it been since anyone had? Asked, that was?

She didn't have long to think about it. Not with some floozy of a nurse falling over herself onto Otto, and a surge of annoyance washed over her. "Wow. Effective staff - instead of helping the people who came in, they're spectacularly falling all over themselves, " she hissed under her breath, feeling more annoyed than she had any right to, really.

In an instant she took a breath to try and calm herself, reaching up and lacing gentle fingers into Otto's hair. "Someone should see us soon. We can't possibly be waiting that much longer."

Toren, sitting alone, would hear a strange scuffling noise on the other side of the double doors that lead into the examination rooms. He might want to ask if anyone else hears it, because there seems to be no one noticing it...

Zachariah Faulkner

Zachariah honestly could not quite tell if Hitch's husband was offended by the suggestion that Hitch was lucky to be alive or simply alarmed. The tone he was using hinted at something between the two, a fervent measure of passion that was not necessarily something Zachariah was used to seeing. At least, out of himself. Others emoted that way.

He attempted not to.

And yet--

The laughter from Hitch caught his attention. He shifted his attention from the husband to the eye, the lack of eye, the owner of only one eye, and he could not help a scoff under his breath. In some ways, it was funny. Whoever ambushed him had a taste for melodrama. In some ways, his mind was inclined to agree. He could not let himself entertain those thoughts. "Sounds like a melodramatic b***h."

Sounded like the kind of melodrama he may have expected out of some members of the group that made a habit out of eating souls--

It seemed that Hitch wanted to stay quiet for now, so Zachariah was fine doing the same, settling nearby as Rhys--that was his name--directed. He was not necessarily sure how he was supposed to be behaving. Was he feeling concern? He was uncertain. "Zachariah," offered he, in turn, not bothering to offer his hand. There was no point. "But you already knew that--"

His voice was suddenly cut by Hitch's screaming, and Zachariah reeled. Considering his voice sounded like nails scraping against gravel, he was uncertain how he was even managing to scream.

He chanced a glance at the clock.

To Rhys, mostly, because he was uncertain if Hitch would answer, Zachariah asked, "How ******** long have you been here, anyway?"

Salem Thanatos

Salem made a noise of discontent as he, trudged towards the nearest chair, away from everyone else. He scowled at the half assed excuse of a bandage wrapped around Caer's leg. How many times were they going to have to go over basic defense before Caerwyn learned how to properly block and dodge? Probably around the same time they'd just buy him a new spleen.

....

Could you get a new spleen? Curiosity got better of him as he pulled out his phone and began idly researching.

"No." Salem snarled quietly. "You're going to stay put."

Desdemona Jacobs

Dessie smothered the sigh that she felt build in her. Sitting there in the waiting room was boring and the seats hurt her a** but it wasn’t exactly like she was here voluntarily. Patrolling gone wrong is what brought her to this clinic, she had quite a few cuts and bruises herself but they weren’t here for her. It was her companion that was here for a doctor.

“You doing ok?” The blonde muttered quietly to the pale male next to her as she pressed her sweatshirt sleeve against a deeper cut on her arm. Ian would get looked at while she swiped some butterfly bandages for herself. If one of those staffers even thought of touching her they were the ones who were going to need help. Dessie lightly worried her bottom lip before asking once more, “you sure you don’t want to ask Xander for help?”

Ian Bach

Hissing as he shifted he shook his head. "I'm fine." Or rather he would be, soon he hoped, but for now it was liveable...right? It certainly seemed it despite how banged up he looked...and felt. He was also a bit of a bloody mess. "I don't want to bother Xander. He's at work...and I'd rather not worry him with our presence." It would keep Xander, likely, from doing his job and tending to others. He'd be too worried for the both of them. And honestly he was an eternal, no matter how little he did to show he'd earned his wings, he could handle himself and didn't need fussing over.

"You should get checked out also." Though he doubted she'd allow anyone close enough to her to check her out. Dessie would forever be Dessie, as far as he figured, and that meant she kept most people at arms length...or further.

Blythe Clemmons (Lt. Edenite)

Blythe looked up when addressed, brows arched for just a moment out of habit. It was probably because she had been engrossed in another conversation with her teammates over Discord about how not to do a patrol. She quickly smoothed her expression into a polite smile. "Of course," she replied, comfortable leaning against the wall rather than taking a seat herself.

She glanced at the sick child and surreptitiously leaned away. Wouldn't it just be her luck to get sick before she got her vaccine? "Hello. Happy to get a day out of school?"

Tom Wolf

At this time, Tom had only gone to the urgent care because of slicing his arm open while preparing dinner and had been in the waiting room, hoping that his name would be called soon that his arm could actually be stitched up. Sure, he could have done it himself, but his apartment wasn't as sterile as he would have liked it. But if he had to wait too much longer then he would leave and take care of it himself. But for right now, his arm had at least stopped bleeding with the gauze and cloth that he had already put on it.

It seemed quite a few people were already waiting here too, but Tom didn't pay them any mind. He didn't recognize any of them, and he was only waiting for his name to be called. In the meantime he was attempting to play Pokemon on his gameboy with only one hand, which was proving more difficult that he thought it would.

Erich Jäger

Erich grumbled to himself as he tried to get his shoulder into a comfortable position. But that was hard considering he had dislocated it. Or at least he was pretty sure he had. After all, he had heard the pop and then felt the pain that had immediately followed it after he fell from a bit of rock climbing. He wasn't going to mention the fact that he had no safety equipment and had been climbing freestyle. Nope.

But he couldn't help but feel cranky about it since he had already been here for a while, and there were so many other people waiting to be seen and he hadn't even been called yet even though he had gotten there a couple of hours before. "Urgent care my a$$." He muttered to himself, trying to think of something to do while he just... continued to wait.

He should have brought something with him. A book, game, anything! But instead he felt like he was going to fall asleep! And as soon as he did that his name would be called of course. So here he was, up later than he ever wanted to be on a normal night, just trying to see if he could get a doctor to look at his shoulder and pop it back in.
