Day # 89 Theme: Desert
Hayden could get anything she wanted. All she had to do was ask and whatever it was--jewels, clothes, wine, men, women--they would all be hers. But she liked the game too much to simply ask.
She wrapped her headscarf around her face, shielding her nose and mouth from the sand kicked up by the wind but more importantly, it kept her from being immediately recognized. The one downside to her eccentricity is that she favored things that made her stand out, such as pale hair among people with natural dark hair.
The rest of her body was also covered, something not quite to her liking. She preferred to flaunt her body; she liked watching the faces of those who admired what she had but could never touch it. Makar had told her she was a horrible person for that, and he was the only one who would ever dare to say such a thing to her. And she valued his honesty, even if sometimes it was more apt to piss her off.
She made her way across the sand, lifting an arm to shield her eyes from the sun as she scanned the desert for Makar. He was supposed to be out here--patroling or something. To be honest, she didn't really care what Makar's actual job was, even if she should know. Makar was there to be her sounding board; that's all she needed.
Except she didn't see him anywhere, although she was positive that Naja had told her he was supposed to be here. Naja wouldn't lie to her. No one would, except maybe Makar because Makar didn't fear her for some reason. And she'd figure that out eventually.
Hayden sighed, twisted the scarf off her head and shook her hair free. The sun's heat felt too good against her face--discretion be damaned!
"Makar!" she shouted, squinting as she peered around the desert again.
When there was still no sign of Makar, she turned to leave, only to come face to face with Makar. He was covered from head to toe in clothes of varying shades of brown, but Hayden had no doubt that it was him. She reached forward and and removed the cloths covering his face. His dark eyes were somber as she freed his head and ran her fingers through his dark hair.
"I found you," she said.
He snorted. "No you didn't. You overlooked me about half a dozen times."
Hayden waved her hand in a dismissive manner.
"Irrelevant," she said. "We need to talk."
Makar frowned, but when she took his arm and led him to a fallen pillar that cast small amount of shade across the hot sand, he didn't fight. Of course, he didn't fight. As much as he argued and disagree with Hayden, fighting her would be a crossing a line that she couldn't allow, not even from him.
They sat down in the shade, Hayden grabbing fistfuls of sand and letting it sift through her fingers.
"I've done something stupid," she said after a moment of silence. She looked up to gauge Makar's reaction, only to find him smiling. "What?"
"You do a lot of stupid things, so you'll have to elaborate."
She stared down at the fine grains of sand on her palm as she continued. "I've broken the treaty."
Makar took a sharp intake of breath. "What do you mean?"
"I'm sick of that damn demon telling me what to do, and that pompous fancy boy Kratos thinking he owns me." She looked up, locking eyes with Makar. "He doesn't. They don't. So that Auran they've been looking for? I have him."
Makar stared at her with wide eyes. "Hayden, that's not stupid. That's aboslutely insane. You're going to get everyone killed! Don't you remember what happened last time? The reason you were forced to bend your knee in the first place?"
Hayden grabbed another fistful of sand.
