Leeroi struggled under the mass of daywalkers, pinned under the sheer weight of them all on him. He tried to wiggle out, lashing at the daywalkers around him, but they just kept piling on. With his gun out of reach, there was little he could do to fend them off. He held onto Psykgi's hand with a near vice grip, anything to help pull himself out of the sea of zombies.

"I'll cover you!" Hemera followed Psy's path, then as the redblood grabbed Leeroi, Mera focused on keeping the daywalkers at bay in the midst of Psykgi's efforts. She occasionally found openings, getting to swing instead of just hold them off. Some of the daywalkers went down, leaving more space. More ability to see. Breathe. And in the wake of that space... She caught sight of something.

"Ma'am!" she called to Eostre. "Can you grab Corporal Furore's gun?" Before it got kicked farther off or something... She would do it herself, but she had to keep on top of her share of daywalkers while covering trolls unable to defend themselves.

She hacked away at the daywalkers, chunks of decayed, nasty, infested trollflesh splattering around her to stink on the floor.

There he was again - her hand found Leeroi's and she held on tightly. "I've got you!" Apparently, the seargent had found his gun - good.

She put down her axe - it was a two-hand job, and she couldn't exactly use it effectively one handed. She could get it back later - it was, at least, in view.

"Cover me!" she called back to Hemera as, kicking her axe behind her, she pulled with all of her strength to get Leeroi free of the mass of daywalkers.

Avoiding the zombies became easier as the numbers diminished, corpses falling to the ground around them, giving her the room required to fight. Eostre nodded to Hemera, shoving a zombie into the wall before moving towards the gun. Clever girl. She scooped up the shotgun, the weight unfamiliar in her hands and turned to the corporal. Between Hemera and Psygki, it looked like he managed to get free, thankfully.

"Furore? You still kicking?" she called to him, grinning. "Catch!" she said, and tossed the gun to him.

Pulled free from the daywalkers' clutches, Leeroi appeared to be shaken, but not afraid. He shot both Psykgi and Hemera a thankful smile for helping him free, then grabbed the gun that Eostre had thrown. "Feelin' fine! Thanks for the backup!" Leeroi said, cocking his gun back and firing at the handful of zombies left. He let out a proud laugh as three of them fell to the blast.

Leeroi popped back up, and his gun returned to him. Of course. She should have known he would be fine. Still, it was easy to worry in tense situations. "Furore!" Mera sounded relieved, but needed to mask it some. "Glad to you could make it. As popular as you are, you need to let your fans know you have a previous enagagement!"

With that, she swung her boomerang.

"Two remaining! On the right!"

"Always!" Psykgi said, her smile returning briefly before she turned to the next matter - getting her own weapon back. It was right where she'd dropped it and she ran towards it... only to have to dodge as the daywalkers came after her. The painkillers had set in - her side didn't ping her as she tried to manuver around them to get her weapon back - but she knew that, in truth, she wasn't in very good shape. Certainly, she couldn't keep dodging... she needed to get her weapon back.

Get out of the way! she wanted to scream at the awful things, but she had to focus.

Just two now. Eostre kicked and fought, pulling them away from her teammates and closer to her, where she could thoroughly disarm and behead them. Between her brass knuckles and the trench knife, she took them the both of them out handily. The gushing fluid of the zombies, their dismembered corpses - it all fell to the ground, finally quiet.

With that, she wiped her gloved hands on the pants of her uniform.

"Alright, stay put a second, I'm going to search for another door. You all take a quick breather," Eostre said to her crew as she bounced out, seeking ahead of the team to look through the corridors. After a few minutes, she found one, and returned to her team to signal them to follow her.

"Hemera, can you check the door for me?" she asked again, putting a hand on her shoulder. Leaning in, she smiled. "Looks like things are going well between you and the corporal, Moachm. Glad to see it."

With a smile, she pulled away to go to the door.

"Yes, ma'am." Mera went with Eos to the door, though couldn't help but feel her face heat up some at Eostre's comment. She had to glance at Leeroi then back to Eostre. She bit her lip. "I- um- yes. It's a little surreal." Sudden, but pleasant. Tension-relieving with the timing. And with something akin to...giddiness. But balanced with the seriousness of the mission at hand. "A nice surprise. But. Um. Yes- I'm still completely engaged with the mission. Prioritizin."

Speaking of, she checked the door as asked. It didn't budge, as per usual. And... "One of those panels, ma'am. Over there." She nodded towards it. "Your specialty, yes?"

In the meantime, her ring buzzed. "Hostiles within. I suppose we should assume that will just be the case at this point. I can take readings if you like, ma'am."

"Of course darling. I expect nothing less of you," Eostre said. Still, the lack of tension was nearly palpable. Good for morale, she figured. As long as they were able to focus when it came time to fight, she didn't care if they held hands and bantered.

At the panel, Eostre fiddled with the inner workings of the trap until the soft buzzing ceased, marking a disarmed trap. Now, if only it were this easy for her to unlock it. She wondered if she'd have to study these old doors sometime, get a better sense of it.

Eostre glanced at Hemera's buzzing ring. A reading might be useful, if they could gauge what was within, exactly.

These doors would be the death of her, she was certain. She could almost feel the awful sensation of being watched and judged while she struggled to unlock it with precision strength, as she had ever since that ship with Ardais. A shame.

With a sharp inhale, Eostre slammed her shoulder into the door. With a groan and a click, the door was open. Time to face the horrors within.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

If this is your fourth mini-boss fight, you have reached one of the steering systems! Roll 1d4 in the spoiler below:

1 - The other teams appear to have been successful in their endeavors. There's enough power available for you to reengage the system. The entire room illuminates and roars with life. It's perhaps dangerous to hang around in here too long, but in the meantime the amount of energy in the air makes you feel powerful.
2 - The tendrils of the ship's wiring look like a crime scene, or perhaps a particularly gory nest. Headquarters gives you harried instructions to shut down and isolate the area before the whole ship goes up in flames.
3 - An undead helmsman is still tethered to the center console. They don't have the ability to provide power, but their presence is preventing the back-up systems from triggering. You remove the zombie and the system reengages successfully.
4 - The room is dark and cold, but with instructions from headquarters and the efforts of the teams on the other decks, the system has enough power to reboot itself. The ship begins to thrum with life. It makes your horns tingle and your hair stand on end.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Another psionic. She knew the moment she walked into the room and that same pressure, like buzzing and whispering, pushed at her thinkpan. ********. She needed to hit fast, and hard. Before the writhing mass triggered some weird attack and left her and her squad defenseless against it.

She slid up close and punched it hard, feeling the awful texture of the fleshy mass even through her gloves. With a swift kick, she pushed back and looked at the wetness and wrinkled her nose. Nasty.

"Careful, everyone. We have another psionic. Don't ******** around too much. We try to get this taken care of quickly, alright? And stick close to one another," she commanded, moving closer to Hemera as she spoke.

Mera let out a pained gasp, feeling tendrils of pain invade her head. She grit her teeth, though couldn't stop the squeak. It hurt, feeling fingers dig into her mind, sending fire down her nerves. But she was prepared this time. Prior experience, while little, was enough that she wouldn't be decimated by it. Hopefully.

She took Eos's words to heart. Act fast, act smart, keep together. Like every other awful time, this would pass.

Hemera moved just so, so she could get decent aim in, and tossed her boomerang, hoping to slice through the mass. In the meantime, she had to lean on the wall for support. A good move, since the thing sent a mental blast right at her for hitting it. She took a hard, painful breath as her nose started to bleed again.
