Yue blinked before shaking his head and chuckling in amusement. "Right. Sounds reasonable." he said. He looked at Allister with a small smirk. "I've never been this comfortable with someone in a short time before." He'll admit, he's starting to like the librarian. Usually it'll take him weeks or even months to open up to someone without suspecting them. He sighed at the thought.

Jasper entered the ballroom looking even more harried than usual. One of the servers had an emotional breakdown over the slavery fiasco and Jasper was dragged in just as he was about to wind down for the night even though he had been working since the sun had risen. The palace servants had been in a flurry for a month over this event and most like that maid were at a breaking point. Thus the occasional breakdowns. Jasper mostly just served the royal family so he wasn't at that point quite yet, so he would wear on. He took a tray saddled with refreshments and was given strict instructions that he was not allowed to make anything (he didn't get what the big deal was, the last person who drank tea he made only threw up a little). Another more subtle reason for him being there was to be a moderator (coughmeatsheildcough) in the event things went straight to the underworld. Which might be needed judging by how upset everyone was over the poor lion girl incident. Though Jasper had to say that Crown Prince Byakuya handled the matter splendidly, making the servant feel a bit of pride for the man he served. Jasper was also happy to see Prince Tamlen (he had a crush on the man in his youth and avoided him for a month. Good times) comforting his sister Princess Rinalia (serving her was stressful but incredibly rewarding) before inviting his fiance Lady Rebecca to dance, leaving his sister in the protection of Lady Chell. Busy as he was with checking on the young royals, Jasper failed to miss a particularly enthusiastic hand gesture that ended up becoming a backhand to his face. Jasper grunted in pain (he was thankfully used to this enough not to yell out) and stumbled a few steps back only keeping the drinks on their tray through his water magic, though he had to bend over a bit because of the spots dancing in his vision. 'Well this is one way to end the night' He thought blearily. (You can pretend to not see him if you want)

Jasper was able to steady himself in time to dodge a person about to waltz into him. This, unfortunately resulted in the servant bumping into another guest. 'This is why I try to avoid crowds.' He mentally grumbles to himself. 'I can't go two feet without an accident happening. If it wasn't for my magic I would have had to exchange my tray three times! People are going to think I'm clumsy!' Shaking off the thoughts Jasper turned to the person he bumped into and gave a low sweeping bow, holding his tray of drinks aloft. "My deepest apologies for bumping into you-" He rose to get a good look at the person's face. "-Sir. May I offer you a refreshment?" He put the tray in between them to hide his assessing eyes. He was handsome all right, and rugged as well. While Jasper wasn't the type to judge, and this was an event open to everyone, it was also very politically sensitive. It was the perfect opportunity to create chaos, thus the servant was a tad more suspicious about strangers he didn't recognize as official guests. Plus, staying still and talking to someone might help his spinning head. 'Seriously, was that person a Ištarazilain or something? I can feel a goosebump forming on my forehead!' Jasper thought before focusing on the guest again. " I haven't seen you around before, are you a visitor? Possibly from the king of Ventiaus's party?" Jasper asks the man with a polite smile. "If so I hope you enjoy Thalassia. If not, well, I hope at least you enjoy this ball!" He finishes with a small laugh.

Jasper relaxed a bit a the lack of offended yelling. Not that he really expected it, this man gave the impression of a gentle giant, but in a party filled with nobles one had to be mentally prepared for certain things. Hmmmm, he'd like t get to know this man more but technically Jasper was working and as a server he really shouldn't be chatting with a guest. 'Oh whatever.' He thought. He really worked himself too hard and deserved a break anyways, mostly since if he wasn't gang pressed into going this job he would have been deeply asleep by now. Plus it wasn't as if he wasn't working, even standing still the occasional person would grab a drink off of the tray. Plus, information gathering. Course of action decided, Jasper smiled at the man towering above him. "Interesting, our names almost rhyme." He says with a small laugh. "It's very nice to meet you Kass, I am Jasper Parrox, at your service." Jasper finishes with another bow. "If you don't mind he asking why did you decide to attend the ball? Visiting family in the area perhaps?" The servant asks curiously, unable to think of a better question. How much skin Kass was showing was mildly distracting Jasper, plus the servant was exhausted. Hopefully to nomad wouldn't notice.

Warm. If there was one word to describe Kass at that moment it that. A surprising trait for someone born in Thalassia, though he did mention being a nomad. Perhaps his travels shaped such a thing? Ouch. Jasper didn't mean to bring up something that would make the nomad feel bad, though he should have known better than to bring up family in times of war. "My apologies if my question brought up painful memories, that was truly not my intentions. I lost my parents in this war." He confesses softly. Now the mood was too dour, so he added "But I still have my uncle."'Still not good enough.' Jasper thought, tired mind scrambling for another subject. 'Wow he has beautiful eyes.' Also appeared without his permission and Jasper struggled not to blush. So instead of lightening the mood, he instead grasped the thread of conversation Kass left dangling. "Heading into Thalassian was probably a wise choice, though there's no reason you can't visit the two other kingdoms. The king of Ventiaus in particular tries to keep relation neutral." Something else occurred to Jasper. "Though his opinions on Thalassia may change because of.... Were you here earlier tonight to witness that awful event? When that noble tried to give Prince Byakuya a lioness shapeshifter he enslaved? The prince handled the matter spectacularly but it may sour relations if other countries thought we endorse slavery." Jasper finished, shaking his head. The thought of it made him feel even more stressed but if Kass was worried about diplomatic relations it was probably best to tell him.

Jasper looked thoughtful and torn at Kass's request. On one hand, Jasper had his workaholic instincts already yelling at him to keep serving, and his Uncle Solomon would already be scolding him for slacking off this much. On the other hand, Jasper was working unnecessary overtime, was exhausted, and didn't want Princess Rinalia catching him overworking himself again (she could give an impressive guilt trip). Also, handsome stranger wanting to spend time with him. Before he could come to a decision Jasper felt the tray being lifted off his hand. Looking over his shoulder he spotted another servant taking the tray for himself. The man bent down in whispered into his ear; "The Head Server sent me to replace you since he didn't realize you've been working all day. Might want to do something about that bruise on you forehead. Have fun." Winking at the bewildered and blushing Jasper and putting a glass of wine in his hand the other servant sauntered off. 'Well that decision has been entirely taken out of my hand.' He thought with exasperation, calming himself down while his back was turned away from Kass. After a moment Jasper turned back to his conversation partner and gratefully accepted his offer and lead them to a sofa in an alcove along the ballrooms walls that had curtains that could be let down for privacy. Jasper sat himself down with great relief and turned toward Kass. "More enemies is the last thing anyone needs, let alone an entire country. Many people just want this war to end, while many want to continue it. I'm personally hoping Prince Byakuya takes a liking to the Ignius ambassador and she takes a liking to him. A royal wedding might wrap things up nicely. Or make it worse, but I can hope, can't I?" Jasper finishes with a chuckle. Then he looks at Kass thoughtfully. "You said you are a nomad, correct? Do you have any stories of your travels to tell? Only if you don't mind of course, I'm just curious since I've hardly even left this city, let alone Thalassia." The servant is quick to reassure the other man. It was odd, usually Jasper was almost painfully shy getting to know strangers outside of his work but with Kass opening up came easy. He just seemed to have an air of reassurance and protection.

Tasha looked to the prince next to him and as much as he desired to dance with the other, and it showed on his face he had to think about what would happen when the prince learned he wasn't a woman? Would he be punished for fooling a royal? Would his mother? Seeing so many people at the ball already the young noble started to speak. "I-I would love to dance with you, but I should probably check on my mother and I'm sure you have other things to do besides spend an evening with a someone like me." Tasha tried to give a good reason for declining the prince since he could think of no way to avoid a dance now without telling Byakuya who he really was. The man before him had sent a noble to the front lines for slavery, what would he do to someone that made him look like a fool? It had been nice while it lasted to pretend for once who he was didn't matter since no one at this ball was aware of who he was, save for those from Arthur's court. "Please forgive me your highness, perhaps another time?" He asked shakily knowing either way he probably wouldn't get the chance. His mother would be livid with him and might end up leaving the ball, or Byakuya would forget about him and he would only see the prince from a distance. Ishtar had been watching the room from her dimly lit corner having greatly disliked being in crowds since she was a small child, part of it was due to how she was concieved and brought up, but also because of her wolf nature. She hated dealing with the none shifters that called themselves better then her just because she was the product of rape didnt mean she chose that life. As her attention drifted from the scene with the lioness and the male that approached her she listened in on the conversation for a moment before the sound of a slap and the grumbles of a servant caught her attention. She turned and watched as Jasper conversed with a man that smelled of the wilds, well, at least that was where he had come from based on the scents he gave off. Watching the pair for a moment she saw another servant approach and suggest taking a break from being over worked. So, the servant thought he could converse with a guest after mentioning he had basically been worked to the bone annoyed her. Sauntering over she eyed the pair for a moment. "Jasper, I do believe when the other servant suggested you take a break it was a push to go home and sleep. If your so tired that you cant do your job and serve the guests you shouldnt be here but home resting in your bed. You have been working all day after all. Im sure this gentleman will be here when you return. The ball wont be over for some time and we dont want to cause any sort of scenes with you collapsing. Besides, it wouldnt do to have a servant seen conversing with a guest while still in their work clothing. It would cause jealousy among the rest of the staff." Turning her attention to the man Jaster was speaking to, she gave a small nod of her head. "I do apologize if I spoiled any fun you were planning on having, but if he is as tired as he professes he should be sleeping in a bed alone and not chatting with someone at a ball. Im not sure how he ended up working this shift as well, we do have plenty of servants to care for both the day and night shifts. Missing one or two wouldnt have caused the entire ball to drift into chaos." ((i do apologize if she seems like a b***h. but having a servant that is exhausted looks bad if your a royal. Jasper shouldnt have been allowed to serve at the ball period if he is that tired and overworked. It would basically be saying that the royal family doesnt care if their servants are worked to the bone and die from exhaustion.))

Jasper listened to Kass’s views of his country with interest. He had only heard the opinions of other Thalassian’s so the man’s well-traveled ideas were fascinating to him. By the time the nomad was about to tell stories about his travels, Jasper was leaning forward with interest. That’s when an elegant lady walked up to the duo. Jasper was embarrassed to admit he didn’t recognize Princess Ishtar at first glance. The reclusive Princess was so rarely out of her wolf form around him, and it was very surprising to Jasper that she attended the ball at all. Prince Byakuya must have been trying to convince her for a while. But the moment Jasper recognized Ishtar for who she was he paled, jumped up from his seat, and then gave a deep bow in her direction. All Jasper could do during the Princess’s speech was stare at the ground and mutter a cringing apology when the situation asked for it. He took a moment to wonder how the princess knew he had been working all day, then realized with embarrassment that his workaholic tendencies reached even her ears. Though she may have misunderstood the other servant’s intention for relieving him (the wink said enough about that). He was also nowhere near the point of exhaustion, it was just that someone slammed their hand into his face, though she also wouldn’t know that and Jasper wasn’t telling. But the princess was entirely correct about his state of attire. But he wasn’t worried about jealousy, since if the other servants had something to gossip about, they were (mostly) happy. But when she talked about him going to bed alone, Jasper blushed in mortification and was suddenly thankful that Kass was to his back. His… preferences were something of an open secret amongst the staff (keeping a secret around here was pointless), but it was only based on his lack of interest. Jasper at least puts a bit of effort into trying to hide it. After all, when it came to carrying on the Parrox bloodline to serve the royal family, personal interests came second. ‘But Uncle will be furious if I don’t at least deny it!’ Jasper thought in a panic. When Kass spoke up Jasper was both relieved, thankful, and wanting to shrivel into the ground in mortification even more, though the servant admired the man’s spunk. It was just that Jasper didn’t know how to deal with Princess Ishtar since he was bad with strangers, and to him, the royal treated everyone par Prince Byakuya as a stranger. She was cold and distant, and Jasper didn’t know how to bridge that gap or if it was even his right to. So he merely served her as best as he could. But the last thing anyone needed was for her to get angry at a guest, mostly due to him. It was meatshield time. “Your highness you have my deepest apologies for any discord I may have caused and my sincere thank you for your concern. If it pleases you, I shall go and change my attire immediately. I did not in any way mean to dishonor you or your family. I assure you that your servants are working hard for the palaces sakes, but not to the point of collapsing. We would never do something to blacken the royal family’s name or overwork ourselves to such a state. Or we would at least remove ourselves first.” Jasper added at the thought of the maid who had a meltdown. “And in regards to my interests, I assure you that I have no such intentions. I merely was enjoying a conversation with such a well-travelled individual; though I once again thank you for your concern. And I once again apologize for my lack of decorum my lady, it will not happen again.” Jasper finished with another low bow. Hopefully, that would diffuse a bit of tension. It would even be better if her wrath focused on him. A noble getting mad at a servant was nothing special or significant. ((OOC: Sorry for taking so long, my first draft was destroyed so I had to rewrite it crying . No big deal, I actually like how things are going. A bit of drama is good for a story and character development. I actually disagree with te work thing. Organizing and running a large, fancy, politically sensitive ball must be hard work with all of the guests and things to do and all. I would be more surprised if the servants weren't exhausted at this point, the next day will probably be a reprieve for them. The thing with Jasper was probably just a few of them panicking, though Ishtar's scolding was well deserved. Remember all of the assumptions are just from Jasper's perspective, but sorry if I assumed a few things too wrong))

Companions Valerie Mood Gentle Wearing Formal ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✭ ━━━ She wasn't wrong. Forgetting everything you once knew and gaining the confidence to be free wasn't something someone did overnight. It had taken him a couple years to learn he didn't have to worry and could be himself. "Of course it's because you're a shifter. I wouldn't care if you were human. But, you and I have a bit in common and if I can help you like the pack helped me, I'll do whatever I can." Aoeros noticed she started to look around and he had to wonder if she was looking for a way to get away from him. Studying her for a minute or two, he realized she didn't want to be crowded like she was and gave a gentle smile. "There are private balconies if you want to get out of the ballroom. I also saw a garden, but I'm not sure if it's empty like it was earlier."
