Myles

Myles seemed to be enjoying himself; so far he hadn't totally wiped out so he had enough to be happy for just for that alone. He didn't immediately register that someone had called to him; he almost lost his footing, startled when he realized that someone recognized him.

His face was just slightly tinged in embarrassment and he waved enthusiastically to Jack. He was still having fun, but it was obvious he'd been in his own little world while he was running the race. He seemed to just adore the themes going on and was having too much fun to really care about how he was doing.

Still, he reached the top and grabbed a sled; he wasn't very careful with this because it was just sledding. You probably couldn't get hurt too badly. Either way, he seemed to share some small love of speed, and despite his lack of dexterity, he managed to weave around obstacles without slowing down.

Jeremy

Jeremy didn't quite flinch when he heard someone call out 'Fischers'; he knew he recognized that voice from somewhere and spared only a second to double check.

Jack, he remembered. He raised a hand in acknowledgement and offered a quick smile without slowing down. It wasn't that he wasn't having fun, he was just plagued by thoughts of a nice warm bed.

Still, if he had people rooting for him, he couldn't let them down. Besides, if eyes were on him--even for just this moment--he had to do his best. He hastened up the hill and, while far less enthusiastic about the sled designs than his brother, still managed to be fairly skilled on one. Only, Jeremy was arguably a bit more reckless than Myles; even if he seemed to have good control over his steering, he seemed more interested in getting speed than avoiding obstacles.

It might have been talent, or pure luck, that got him down that fast without hitting anything--or anyone.

Emily Wren Wiley - Competing
Quote:
8+1+1 = 10!

OK. So there was sledding, and Emily Wren finally slowed to examine the bright waffle cone sleds before finally selecting one carefully and climbing in. There were 'rocks' all around of chocolate, and finally, after watching a few pass, she began to move, following trails away from the rocky road rocks as best as able. For once, she wanted to be careful, and it gave her time to think, settling in as she guided her sled. How many others had she failed as Elpis anyway? Porrima? Sinistra? Cor Coroli?.... A whine finally came from the young woman, and she shook, sighing. Not. Cool.

Allison Abson - Competing
Quote:
8+1-1 = 8!

This was not Ally's thing. She was not commonly atound ice and she'd never been sledding, so when she boarded her sled, it wasn't long before it careened off course, Ally yelping as it slammed into a choco-rock, and she yelped as she went flying into a mound of 'ice cream'. No, it wasn't real, but the cold was HPORRIBLE and she whined a moment, wiggling before moving back to her sled, shivering and looking HIGHLY put out. Rude. Rude sled.

Gayla - Competing

Galya felt like she'd been having okay luck with this race. It wasn't what she'd expected as she made her way away from the gumdrops. Now though, was onto the mudslide slopes. She wasn't expecting what looked to be carefully sculpted ice cream mountains. There in a row were tiny little sleds they were expected to use.

Gayla paused softly as she looked and finally took one that had some peppermint trim. She thought to herself, this would be her lucky sled. However, as she sped down the slopes, it turned out it wasn't quite that lucky. She kept clipping the chocolate chunks, whatever they were made out of; some sort of foam?

It took some time before she actually got the hang of steering the sled and by that time, she'd actually reached the bottom of the slope. Gayla was admittly a little disappointed.

Zoya and Kata

"Man, I want to learn to be able to special effects like this. Look at those slopes Kata! The sign said it was mudslide; think it's suppose to be the ice cream? Because that totally looks like it could pass as ice cream!" Zoya was excited as she spoke, however she cringed when she watched Gayla clip a rock here, and another one over there. "Come on big sis you can do it!"

"I don't think we have enough money for any of us to learn to do that, sweetie." Kata said with a small laugh. She didn't want to think about what that could cost, though admittedly it was all really great looking. However, the more they saw the more Kata wanted to start looking at dyi projects that could help her simulate some of this. It'd be great for a birthday party. "Ew. I hope those chocolate chunks, aren't terribly hard because that'd hurt every time she hit them."

You've reached the bottom of the Mudside slopes, just in time to avoid a cold breeze that sweeps down the slope behind you and pushes you further down the path towards the next area of the race--the Gingerbread Lake!

This is the return of the Milky Way, though! Perhaps you saw it from the top of the slopes, or perhaps you were too quick; the river ran parallel to the slopes and is flowing into a lake. Along the shore of the lake, many little boats are laid out. These bumper boats have been painted to represent a Christmas theme, and they all look like cute little Gingerbread boats. Bows and garland, bells and ornaments decorate each boat.

Clearly, you have to get across the lake--and swimming doesn't seem to be an option. But there is hope! From here, you can see the end of the race, across the lake and through one last section!

Quote:
Roll two four-sided dice! The first roll is for speed and the second roll corresponds with one of the following prompts; prompts can positively or negatively impact your roll:

1 - You've decided that since the end of the race isn't that far; it won't hurt to have some fun with this one. You run into some friends and make use of the fact they're bumper boats! (- 2 speed bonus)
2 - While you have a little fun bumping into the occasional person; you're still fairly focused on getting to the other side! (+ 1 speed bonus)
3 - Forget the fact these are bumper boats you want to be the first to get to the end! You're confident that you're talented enough you can still have fun doing it of course! (+ 2 speed bonus)
4 - Oops, somehow you've managed to stall out your boat. It takes a little while figure out how to start it back. (- 1 speed bonus)

When you are finished filling out your post, tally your score (make sure to add or subtract the results of the second dice according the the prompt it correlates to). Please record the results at the bottom of your post in Bold Light Coral along with your Peppermint Forest, Gumdrop Way, and Mudslide Slopes score. Keep up with your scores as they'll determine where you finish the race!

Alerana Ikaros

As she reached the base of the hill, Rana saw the lake they'd have to cross. A moment later she spotted the boats on its shore, all decorated like gingerbread cookies. She jumped up from her sled and raced for the nearest boat, determined to make up for some of her lost time earlier in the race.

She climbed into the thing and, after a moment to figure out how it worked, sent it forward about as fast as she could make it go. But focusing on speed meant she wasn't controlling it very well, and soon she was heading straight for another racer's boat. She tried to turn her boat aside, but wasn't quick enough and...

...bump. The collision was far less jarring than she expected. It was actually even kind of fun. She turned her boat to keep heading across the lake, but now she was a bit less concerned with avoiding the other boats. She bumped her away across the lake, not exactly moving very fast, but at least she was enjoying herself.

Peter Gallo (competing)
Trying to catch up, Peter kinda zoned out during the last leg of the race, but now he was back on track. He didn’t seem to be having any luck, and he wasn’t too happy to see another stream of milky white. At least there were boats this time. He quickly climbed into one and tried to figure out how to make these stinking things work. Eventually he got it on the right course to get through the gingerbread lake.

Charlie Durand (competing)
Yikes, she was falling farther and farther behind, but she couldn’t help but be distracted by how great all the decorations looked. They really put a lot of effort into making this a fun race, and she wasn’t even upset that she couldn’t figure out how the boats worked. Once she was able to get it pointed in the right direction, she felt as though she could at least try and catch up a little.

Amigar - Competing

Amigar was so happy to have made it this far and not only that but she had learned so many dessert ideas. Looking ahead she entered the second to last part. Gingerbread Lake. The yummiest one of all. She noticed the boats which were adorable they made her think of a gingerbread boat fondue idea she could do for the christmas party at her family's bakery. It would be amazing! She shook her quickly as she remembered she was still in the race.
She hoped into the boat and began her decent across the milky pond. It wasn't until she was almost there she heard her boat stall. "no..." she said as she just kicked it multiple times. It took a few minutes but after a little bit it started chugging along. Allowing her to finally reach the end of the milky journey and continue onward.

Sabrina Luna - Competing

Luna was trugging along this was definitely a fun race. She didn't really care about winning, but she was looking forward to finishing. After All it was a first for her the race anyways. And with all the holiday decorations she couldn't wait to hear what her dad was going to do to the hotel.
As she noticed the boats shaped like yummy gingerbread men she hoped right on in and started it up. As she smiled going alone in the milky way. she heard a sound it was strange and then she stopped. She cocked her head to the side and tried to pull it again and again. it was the only thing she could think of and while it took her awhile. but before she knew it she was on her way and off towards the finish line.

Deme - Competing

Deme was just ready to be done. Never before had he said that especially in a race but his legs were jello. Less than jello he just wanted to fall over, but he was going to finish. No matter what place the runner in him would not let him fail.
He just flew past the next sign and straight to boat. He hopped in and then went right to rowing little did he know some kids were playing bumper cars and he was hit. Suddenly in the mix. He played along for a little bit and then went along his merry way unto the next task.

Caelum Dawson || Competing

Once again, the last leg of the race was decked out to be festive. Caelum sighed as he chose a boat and hopped in; he was dead tired from so much running, but knowing that the end was near lifted his spirits just a bit.

He started the boat up to life and began to cross the water at a steady pace, trying his best to swerve passed other boats. Every once in a while he would bump against one of the other competitors, but otherwise, it was smooth sailing for the pink-haired boy. When the boat pulled up to the other side of the lake, Caelum turned to a steady trot this time toward the finish line.

Gigi Gennaro (competing)

Gigi abandoned her waffle at the foot of the mountain, shaken and a little bruised from the rough ride. Giving up entirely on running, she walked onward to the next obstacle, side-eying the white river that was still flowing merrily beside the track. Further up, she could see the faint glittering reflection of sunlight on a wider waterway.

If they expected her to swim, she was bugging out to the nearest café, charity or no charity.

It was a huge relief to see the rows of little boat lining the shore. They were pretty cute, and looked like a much smoother ride than the waffle. Gigi pushed one gently into the water and hopped aboard. It even had a motor, not paddles. This was properly civilised. She started the thing up, and it puttered its way into the middle of the lake at a genteel speed.

And then stopped. Gigi tapped the motor, which gave a sad purr and stalled out into silence. She was becalmed on a milk lake in a gingerbread boat. Greaaat...

It took significant poking, and a pointer from a helpful (and faster) competitor, before the little motor finally cut back in. Gigi focused her grim gaze on the distant shore. This race was an unmitigated disaster, but she was going to see it through to the finish line – and with dry boots.

Kirra Morrow (competing)

Kirra skidded to a stop at the base of the ice-cream mountain, and slid off her waffle sled onto her back, laughing with the excitement of the ride. That was soooo cool!

Oh, but it was a race! Remembering herself, and the sweet gingerbread waiting for her, she clambered back to her feet and set off down the track again. Her sledding speed had caught her up a little, and the lake was bustling when she reached it, people pushing their little boats into the water and others already bobbing away to the other side.

Kirra ran down to join them, grabbing an unoccupied boat and putting her head down as she pushed it ahead of her into the water.

“Hey, careful!” someone called, and she looked up. Her boat had bounced right into someone else’s, like a bumper-car. And the angry bump-ee was a familiar face, one of the older girls from her drama class.

“Sorr-yyy” she called back, and kept pushing, sending the other boat spinning as hers entered the water.

She climbed aboard quickly, reading the instructions to start up the engine. Before she could sit down, though, her boat was rocked as the other girl bumped her, trying to get past.

“You can’t bump me!” she protested, as her boat drifted gently backwards. “Don’t you know I’m a pirate!”

The older drama girl grinned, standing up in her boat as well. “Arrgh, well I be a pirate too! I was here first, so all these boats are mine to plunder!”

“No, I’m a better pirate. I’m Captain Longjohns Sugar and all the gingerbread is mine!”

“I’ll fight ye for it!”

The two little boats bumped and clashed and splashed as the pair set out across the lake, knocking each other into other people’s boats as they passed.

After a while, Kirra realised there were more people on the far shore ahead than behind them. They were falling behind.

“We could be an armada?” she called. “We’ll capture more gingerbread that way!”

They pulled into dock side by side, giggling piratically.

Tom Wolf - Competing
Tom wasn't that experienced with boats, and it was easily seen when the one he had chosen, after he had finished Mudslide Slopes and put his sled away, so other racers wouldn't hit it, managed to stall out. He panicked a bit as he tried to get the boat to start again, but unfortunately when he did, it was clear that it had slowed him down a bit. He sighed, but was glad that he eventually managed to make it work again. He would have hated to be stuck in the middle of the lake with a dead boat and no paddles? Why weren't those an option anyway? Guess it wouldn't be a good idea since these seemed to be "bumper" boats. Though he wasn't sure why someone would make such a thing. That seemed to just be asking for boats to break and sink.

Jason Wolf - Competing
Jason had finally made it out of the slopes and into the boats. He could clearly see the end from here! Unfortunately, he was distracted by some friends from school whom he knew were competing but hadn't been able to talk to yet. His friends however had decided to have a bit of fun with the boats, and it was some time before he managed to make it to the other side and meet up with his brother.
