Veronica had been following along with the conversation silently, and when Preacher turned to them with a question, Veronica stumbled over her words until she'd turned to continue asking Asiya and Chris questions. Listening to her speak, Vero's eyes slowly widened as she listened, nodding at Asiya, heart thumping widely in her chest. Would they have to have 3 sacrifices? Veronica didn't know. She wanted to ask more, but Preacher turned to her, yelled at Alexis, then turned back. After her little explanation, Veronica looked to Darcie and Acacia nervously before looking toward Preacher and the approaching Alexis, who seemed fairly compliant already. She tried to get her thoughts together. So they had to... Become the different symbols? Stars, crown, sword... They all seemed to have such an important meaning, and she... What was she? She had to have been there for some reason or another, right? Veronica stuck a hand out. "I'm not sure I completely get it, but it's either doing nothing and getting stuck or trying and having to think of better options. Let's do this." Veronica felt a strong pressure on her chest.

"What you are doing," Asiya looks to the group, "will not work. Seals cannot be reused, to attempt to reuse it would result in failure." She stares at each of them in turn. "It must be new."

Veronica turned to Asiya, opening her mouth, closing it, and pursing her lips. "Then how do we make a new sigil? What are the steps to make a new sigil?"

"If we gotta use new symbols, you gotta tell us which ones ta use." Preacher frowned and stared at Asiya. There was no ********' way for them to just magically know. Wasn't making the sigil anew count as it being unused?
"You-" she turned and pointed at Arthur. "D'you know what ones ta use?" He ******** up Sunny in the first place, so he should damn well help them fix it.
"Could it have the same meaning," Alexis presses - "as crown, sword, stars? We don't have time for this. We need to create a sigil - it can be as haphazard as it ******** wants but it needs to work."

"If you want to do something like this, then you must make the symbols and you must attach meaning to them." Asiya shakes her head at them. "You are the ones attempting this, do you not understand? To reuse any part of it could mean failure if you are not careful."
"They mean what you want them to mean," says Alexander. "They can be refined later."
He pauses.
He pauses, and Sunny stands up, and he looks to her, and she--
jumps into the rift--
The sudden pressure in the air is unbearable. It pushes the time-travelers towards the rift even as the 20s natives collapse on the ground clutching their heads.
"Protection, duh." That was what swords were for. There was, of course, the underlying meanings mentioned earlier - the thorn, the grave, the death, but those didn't matter as much to her. A cage was constricting, but a cage could be protecting. The crown was order, unequivocal, undeniable. And the stars were, ******** whatever, knowledge or some s**t.
Then Sunny tipped over in the rift (more like jumped, the fool girl), and Preacher's head whipped around. She hardly noticed the other people dropping, clutching their heads. She ran, cursing herself blue, not remembering whose hands she held. Her only thought was to save Sunny somehow.
Preacher barreled forward, into the rift. She was never really good at thinking before doing, after all.
Alexis' mind raced - it wasn't spinning up fast enough, they couldn't think of a glyph -- and then Preacher was charging into the rift with their hand held tight in hers.
Well. This was their life, they guessed, and moved along with her into the void after Sunny. Sunny needed to be the focal point to fix this. "Think of a sigil for watching," they yelled, hoarse, at Veronica, and then at Preacher, "protection - strength -" and they were gone into the void.

Mother ****! Not another freaking jump! Kell watched Preacher hurl herself into the pit with another in tow. Quickly she scrawled the old sigil and its meaning in her sketchbook. Everyone was on the ground, the rift was tugging her again. Head still pounding from the last tear, Kell ran for the rift.
protection. from whom? or what? or FOR who? strength? are we making the spell stronger?
Kell's thoughts didnt get any farther before she was flinging herself into the rift.
If she never gets back to her family she will kill Sunny herself.

Make the symbols themselves? Veronica didn't want to fail but they had to make new things, new... Sigils. Veronica didn't know what to say. Seeing movement out of the corner of her eye, Vero looked over, only to see Sunny stand up and jump right into the damn rift.
Veronica almost dropped to the floor in that second. The pressure was intense, the movements were too much, and Vero couldn't hold her ground. This... loop was collapsing. Before she could even make a decision, Preacher's hands tightened around her own and suddenly the three of them were rocketing into the rift, eyes seeing nothing but intense blackness all around them. Alexis-- screamed something-- protection, strength-- "--Knowledge?!" And blackness overcame them.

The rift is pulling them all towards it, now that Sunny has jumped. This is the end of the broken loop, maybe. It's clear they can't stay here, and whatever Preacher was doing with the sigil, whether it would have worked or not, has been interrupted. Jordan follows the others into the void.
