Temperance looked unhappy with the results, but if this was how it had to be. "I can, at least, patch up those who... get hurt?"
The mask Shun had tossed her was caught but not put on. She couldn't put one on rightfully until everyone else had one. Especially with the reason hers had come off - ignorance. Temperance did not deserve a 'get out of jail free' card unless everyone else was covered.

"Look, I'm not really sure what influence it has on anything, but the ... the pieces of the cage that we ARE able to talk to, they all seem to believe in their roll of -dying for the cage. I can't say why, and I'd rather not see any of them die, but maybe we should see if someone understands why they feel that way. Also, the man in the Plague mask said, that the Sorrowful one, that she wasn't who I thought she was when I brought up that she was the Deer Siblings...Sibling."

"To what purpose?" he asked with a slight frown. "What end does she wish for by taking over the court?"

"Power, control?" Chris offered to Nathaniel, cutting into the conversation slightly. "She seems to take a great deal of joy in being able to control the tithes, of course a court would give her more power."
He frowned for a second, considering. "I don't think she's a double though. It doesn't make sense, the doubles are for the purpose of taking over for the others. At least, that's what the other Thorne told me. He was going to take over Thorne's life at the end of the night, if he didn't get out."

"If we had something to show her, that may work better. I am uncertain how easily she would be fooled otherwise," he noted to Jack. Shun's attention soon shifted over to Chris and Nathaniel.
"This... is perhaps stretching it but... I have heard that Ezra wishes the Sorrowful One to be out of the picture. What if Melany is her double? She would still be fulfilling that purpose of taking over."
It really was stretching things. It didn't answer why the Sorrowful One seemed to just be taking all of this.

I think we should try and break the cage."If they were supposed to be sharing their opinions, and this was the time to make a plan, he'd better be plain about it. "I asked the Sorrowful One her opinion. Asked, in an ideal situation, what choice would she want made. Her court was taken by Melany- her voice," Which was clue enough as to who she was, "And she told me that if the Spinel Lady dies she would reclaim her place, but she didn't ask for that. She said she would like to see the cage broken. And so does Adoelle." Sunny's words, his deal with her, suddenly rang through his mind. Take responsibility. Nathaniel was glanced to with a shrug, "I'm not sure how she benefits besides the obvious appeal of being in control.. but I know she also doesn't want the cage to fall. Breaking it is a danger to her.. perhaps we can get two birds with one stone."

Chris' mouth was in a thin line himself - but he couldn't deny what Algie was offering. If Adoelle, and the leader of the court wanted the cage to be broken, then it was there choice. Even if it broke his heart, he'd still support her.
"Breaking the cage... it has something to do with the enemy. It keeps it trapped, but it also keeps us trapped. To defeat the enemy we have to break it..." Chris trailed off, and then finally added, "I think it involves deaths."

Furrowing his brow, he paused at Alg's new input. Voice. There was only one mute he knew of at the ball. The things she tried to convey to him rang in the back of his head. The masked ones were there to witness the deaths, as well as to show they still align with the Sorrowful One. With her.
"Admittedly, letting Adoelle would be easier than trying to tithe Melany..." he noted, though there was a bit of hesitation in his voice. He was having trouble deciding what the best course of action would be. He definitely did want Melany out of the picture, but Alg did bear a point.
"As far as the cage goes, it holds the one known as the Enemy. I cannot tell you much about him, but he means bad news. While he is caged, he cannot be rid of. Releasing him would allow that... but it is hard to say what else that would entail."
