Autumn Smith 20/25, leaving and Healing AlexisShe had not been able to pull Alexis away in time. Her throat was raw. One more person her indecision had failed. When Ezra finally let her friend go, Autumn said nothing more, but collected the heap of Alexis and absconded. As they walked, she willed healing onto them- to be okay, to live. Laced with apology and misery, all in one. She did not look at Alois. There was nothing more to say. He'd been right all along.

[ Maskless Temperance: 25/25 more upstanding than ur sons] "I'm told I have a forgettable face." She wasn't told that. Just that she had a manly face, or a striking face, or a number of other things that tried to disguise themselves as compliments. But Temperance also recognized it was a good idea to simply agree with Ezra. Alois' mouthed words were ignored but appreciated. She owed him a pinch. She nodded. "I will, of course, return soon. I did have a few things to speak to you about, of course, Ezra." Temperance swallowed the lump in her throat. She was supposed to return before doing this, but the opportunity had come and approaching him later on seemed even more dangerous. "A hypothetical probability-" She had no idea who the people in the parlor had settled on and, without that knowledge, defaulted to who she thought of first: Jack. She'd skedaddle afterwards. medigel talking up Jack Hawthorne to be on the selection council hetzerei god lemme talk 2 ur dad, little boy shibrogane no need for reply just shes gon run off after

[ thorne squared | 25/25 & 20/25 ] : crying internally / popcorn.gif
Thorne returns before long, alone and languid, knowing how mistakes taste in his mouth. Everything with the teacher is a slippery slope. Everything with Melany is a dangerous game.
Combining the two is a terrible choice - and Thorne has done it all.
His twin shadows him up to where Melany is, as though suddenly hounding a sheep to its flock. Thorne does not glare at him. But there is a diffused hatred in the corner of his mouth, the flash of teeth between them, not far from where their master sits.
A well-trained hound and a mutt. How fitting.
"Have fun?" Corr asks, wearing Thorne's face.
Thorne looks at the bruises on Corr's neck. His eyes find the other, and the ice in his throat is enough to chill the world over again.
"Did you?"

Juniper Wilcox (Maskless) | 25/25 | Conversing with HuxSeems we didn’t manage to heal all of his hurt. She noted at Hux’s pained expression as he stood. Still, at least he was alive after that terrible beating he took. Jun hadn’t been able to talk to him afterwards as he had shut himself off from the world. Not that she blamed him. Poor guy has been through hell. After all, how many beatings had he suffered through in his time here? A flash of anger boiled in Juniper again, but it didn’t last long. Not with Hux approaching and his wandering eyes. A smirk danced across Jun’s face. “Amazing how you only noticed now considering I was perched on your lap earlier.” She chuckled, appreciating what she could only assume was a compliment. “Points to you for that, by the way.” At his question, Juniper moved closer to Hux, her body almost pressing into his as she placed her own mask between the two of them, pushing it into Hux’s midsection. “I brought you this. I’ve got one too, now worries.” She flashed one of rabbit’s masks in her other hand. “I just haven’t put it on yet. I wanted to make sure that you and everyone else were safe first. You all have been through hell and back and damn well deserve to get out of this sacrificing s**t. Just...keep that hidden until the last second. I don’t want them trying to take it from you.” She offered him a smile. “How long do you think you can stay away from her.” She nodded towards the stage and to whom she assumed was Adoelle with how close Hux had been to her. Glancing at the flute in his hand, Juniper gestured towards the table laden with drinks. “Come on, we can get a drink or something before you have to go back and play the obedient pet.” Shibrogane mention/gesture at Adoelle/patrons

[Maskless Temperance: 25/25 trying to channel charm]
Taking a deep breath, she moved from Ezra to Adoelle, from her to Melany, and on. One by one by one. And for each one, Temperance tried to pretty her words, be convincing, be polite - but for what reason? She knew she was supposed to have gone back to the parlor before doing this, have gone back to find out what the group wanted. But there had been such a hollow in her gut that said if she didn't do it now, she wouldn't.
But for chrissake, she was a nurse, not a diplomat! And this all was exhausting. Temperance wanted the night to be over, the curtain to fall, the fat lady to sing, and to go home. She wanted to find Susan and simultaneously not find her. Temperance had a headache and she walked back to a chair, back straight, maskless face carefully impassive. Maybe later she could find somewhere alone and lonely to sit.

Nathaniel Parrish - 25 / 25 - nominating
He'd thought about it while talking in the Plum Parlor, Nathaniel mulling over the various people he'd spoken to and seen. It was taking a lot out of him, trying to understand everything, the gaping pieces of the puzzle all still missing from the picture he was trying to put together. They had the edges, but not the rest, and it was making his head throb. Every time he thought he had figured something out, another thing only served to disrupt all that he had gathered.
He stepped up to the council, took a breath, and said quietly,
"I nominate Chris."
It was a decision he hadn't taken lightly. Nathaniel did not know too many people, and the few people he did, he did not want to put into the position that lay in front of them. It was precarious and unfamiliar, as was most of what was around him, and he had no answers for what to do. Lily's confidence in him was meaningful and kind, but misguided, Nathaniel thought, because he could do nothing himself.
"He is, from what I've seen, both calm and level headed," he said now, voice still quiet and wearied. "From what I've seen, he is capable and knowledgeable and understands what will be happening within the court this evening."
Mostly, Nathaniel thought, especially since he hardly knew the man. He hoped it wouldn't be seen as presumptuous of him to make the nomination, but he'd already made up his mind, and Chris had volunteered himself, back in the parlor.
Now it was just a matter of wondering whether or not he'd made the right choice.

jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || nominating algernon It takes a bit of doing but Jeremiah approaches her, the Lady Spinel: Melany. Jeremiah gives her a courteous bow and smiles at her politely. "For what it is worth, I recommend my husband for being on the council." He straightens back up, adjusting his clothing, spinning the bone ring on his finger idly with his thumb and then the signet ring. "The man is nothing but charm and manners when he wants to and I'm sure that is worth something to you." His lips twich into a smirk. Melany: ??/??, whoaaa The ring awakens fitfully: What she wants to kill isn't in her skin or in the gray pulse under her thumb. But it is necessary all the same. Ignorant of this whisper, Melany nods at Jeremiah, her attention sliding off him only a moment after.

Chris Watts || 25/25 || Trying his best
When he finally returned to the hall after Thorne, Chris decided he had wasted enough time. It was finally time to face the council, no matter how much he didn't want to do it, and get in some sort of word for Alg. Even if he fumbled his words, it would still help to have some sort of word in for him. For them to know his name, see if he could get in on the council.
Pacing for a minute, he finally straightened up, forcing his hand away from fiddling with with sleeve and walked over to the council.
"If my word is worth any, I do recommend Algernon being on the council. He is nothing but polite, courteous, and great at weighing all outcomes. He will be nothing but a boon to helping make the decision, which I assume is why he would be wanted on there," Chris managed to get out as succinctly and politely as possible. His gaze traveled over to Shiloh and he gave him something of a sad smile, before finally bowing to the crowd and turning on his heel.

Hux Keighley (unmasked) - 25/25 - speaking with Juniper" Hmmmmm, I noticed other things, I guess..." His mouth twitched into a half-smile that was almost flirtatious and his hand automatically slid to the curve of her hip when she pressed against him. He was a bit surprised by such a forward move, but when she pressed the mask to him he realized the reason behind her action. She was trying to be sneaky, not forward. "I don't want it," he said. "Give it to someone else without one." He pressed a kiss to the top of her head, catching a whiff of her scent- something sweet and perhaps a tiny bit tangy. He felt it was a fitting smell for her. "Thank you, though." He murmured. "But I can take whatever hell they throw at me tonight, and I wouldn't feel right about saving myself just to watch someone else die. I'd rather leave it to fate." He tucked a bit of blond behind her ear. "I'd never say no to a drink with a beautiful woman, though. Lead the way, darling."

25/25 | Shiloh Beaumont (unmasked) | o___o;; oh
Shiloh found comfort in the contact. Even despite Melany's presence, even despite Beel's being there, he was calm. He trusted Thorne, and it had proved dangerous at first, but they still stood here despite the trials. He could feel his own pulse when Thorne pressed his hand against his wrist. It was strange, feeling so alive, feeling so human. They would get through this night, but Shiloh honestly wondered...
What about an instance where he was allowed to go home? Did he really want that? Would he be able to adapt? What did going home even mean, when he didn't even have an image to attach the word to? His deep gray room in Court and his teal dyed atrium were more of a home to him than anything else he could recall. When he thought of home, he thought of the everlasting thrum of rain, he thought of Melany and her long flowing gowns and he thought of Noeh, ever calm and kind and graceful. Of course, he thought of Thorne too, but...
His hand left his wrist, and with that Thorne left his side. Shiloh stared, eyes wide as he tried to follow his gaze across the hall. He was important to you too, once; Shiloh caught the image of that blonde man again, and his head again lolled into an inquisitive tilt. It was like the start of this night, when Thorne had left to talk to him, when Melany made a remark about old friends. There he was going again, looking conflicted and sad and happy all at once. Here stood Shiloh, shadowed against Melany.
Her movement and the subsequent kiss on his cheek snapped him out of his daydream. "It's exciting," he admitted to her in a rush. He cleared his throat of any over excitement (honestly, he had only been startled), "I won't let you down, Madam." and it was true. He had spent the past three months preparing himself for this night. Even despite the pain and the abuse and the heartache, he worked for this, and he wasn't about to cast it all to waste. The will of the guests—the will of Jamie—he understood them all perfectly well, but he suffered for this, he put blood and tears into this.
Even alone, he would do it.
Not that he would be alone completely, but Thorne wasn't there when he turned his attention back to the slow trickle of guests, so was there any real difference? If the Shiloh had once been important to the blonde man, he obviously wasn't as important when it came to Thorne. A bittersweet sort of smile blossomed on his face, tired and accepting all at once. That was fine. Shiloh was strong and he had made it this far regardless of things. He didn't need anyone anymore.
With that resolve in mind, Shiloh stood a little straighter, trying to find something interesting in the crowd to busy his mind with. Jeremiah caught a curious look when he approached Melany, but Shiloh offered no words to the man as he talked up his partner. Out in the crowd, Shiloh caught Chel's wandering gaze, recognizing her as someone who had been in the atrium before. He made no move to approach her, as he was merely taking note.
When would the rest of the guests come in here, he wondered?

Juniper Wilcox (Maskless) | 25/25 | Trying to persuade Hux"Other things?" She grinned. The touch of Hux's hand on her waist caused Juniper to pause for a moment. It wasn't at all uncomfortable for her. Almost welcomed in fact. Still, she knew she was on a mission to get something done. She needed to stay focused and achieve her goal so she could get back to the parlor and find out what the rest of the plan was. And then Hux kissed the top of her head. Mind, it certainly wasn't a difficult task for him considering how much he towered over her, but it still surprised her. In fact, it was the most emotion she had felt from the man all day and well...it was completely unexpected. She looked up at him with curiosity in her eyes and didn't protest his decline of her mask. Yet. "Right, a drink." She said as she turned to walk with him to the table, making sure to keep both of the masks between them in an attempt to keep them hidden. "Drinking something a bit weaker than earlier?" Juniper tossed at him as she looked at the flute again. "Champagne, perhaps?" "Look, I understand what you're saying...about the masks?" She clarified. "But we are working to make sure everyone who needs and wants a mask is getting one." She eyed him as she led the way to the drinks, pausing at the table to grab her own small flute to fill up, but she made no rush to do so. "I want to make sure you're safe. You've been through enough."

Rather than approach what would undoubtedly be a joyful reunion, Chel made a gesture for Shiloh to come closer. Hopefully she would do so without notifying Ezra or Melany or whoever the ******** this was.

Hux Keighley (unmasked) - 25/25 - speaking with Juniper"Champagne will do." Hux responded lightly, doing his best to avoid shifting the bits of him that hurt a little more than the rest as they moved forward toward the bar and further away from Adoelle's gaze. When they had arrived at the liquor table, he glanced at each of the bottles carefully before plucking one from the rest and pouring it into his own tall flute. He did this while Juniper spoke, careful not to let any emotion show on his face. He wasn't exactly interested in doing anything that would give him more of a chance of surviving the night, but he didn't think it would be a good idea to tell her that. "I'm safe enough," he said. "Adoelle will be the tithe tonight, she said so herself. All this mask bullshit is probably just for show. They find pleasure in the stress and mayhem it causes." He sipped from the crystal glass, glanced at Adoelle, then back at Juniper. "I'm not interested in playing the game." He said, the tone of his voice not leaving much room for argument. "I'm spent, Juniper. I should've died however long ago but you and Rabbit saved me. You don't owe me anything. Give the mask to someone more deserving."

Juniper Wilcox (Maskless) | 25/25 | Oh? Two can play this game"Are you alright? I mean, are you at least feeling better from earlier?" she questioned. Juniper raised a brow at Hux. "Fine." She shrugged and reached past him, purposely letting herself brush against him in the process as she grabbed a bottle that caught her attention. She tucked the masks, as unladylike as it was, in the top of her gown as she poured herself her own glass of champagne. Once again, she reached past Hux to deposit the bottle of champagne, nearly loosing the masks from their precarious position amongst her bosom. "You do know that we didn't save you just for shits and giggles, right? I don't want you to think I am doing this out of some great need to be proper and 'do the right thing'. I am doing it because I want to. I truly don't want to see you hurt anymore." "But," She lifted the flute to her lips to sip on the alcohol as she pulled the masks out of her dress and held them at her side again, this time against the table. "If they aren't important than I am not going to bother with one either. I mean, they're terribly annoying to wear and get in the way. Not to mention this new mask will clash terribly with my dress." She shrugged nonchalantly with a single shoulder and took another sip form her glass.
