Whisper to me sweet nothings.
Let the fire dance to the breeze

Candle looked across the hill at her blonde friend, a boy that was like a brother to her and also not. She was crouching just over the curve of the hill behind him, watching him gaze at the sky. Her eyes moving to the tree as she slowly moved, making sure she didn't say anything as she slowly crawled toward the tree, her long white hair pulled back in a long braid, only a few strands escaped from the tightly woven piece .

Candle would make it to the tree and push herself up, pressing her back up against the tree, she would grin as she lifted her arms up along her sides and wrapping her fingers around the lowest branch and she used her strength to lift herself up and wrap her legs around the branch.

Candle would smirk as she would roll onto her stomach, Laying on the tree branch and untieing her hair, wrapping the tie around her wrist as she let her fall down. She would grab one of the long strands and flick it across the back of Zhihao's neck before pulling her long hair out of reach..

light as a feather my hands move
dancing in time with the Candles wicked Flame.

Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris

Between the lands of Bellris and Ethe lay a stone marker which separates the law of the land for each side of the emerald green hills. While the true line of the borders are up for debate Roland felt this was a good enough spot as any to meet up and speak openly with his guest from yesterday. A good drink and tales of their past helped them past the time but what Roland hated was the fact he didn't go to the weeding of King Aldon and now Queen Elentiya. Why? Well, Roland and the emperor aren't on the best of speaking terms. With Roland being the second chair on the Council of Bellris it was painfully obvious he was all for separating from Azazel and his family's rule by the fact he had fully backed his sister, Hysteria, in her decision to seceded. With the youngest daughter of the emperor being married it was a safe bet he was going to be there...but it turns out that the emperor has taken ill and now Roland regrets missing the chance to dance with his love and to see her shine in finery that Zalto is known for; Golds and luxurious materials something he wished to see his princesses adorned in.

But for now the once prince of a now changing government stands alone on the grassy land, looking out to the waters that flow and how the creek feeds the flowers which feed the small tender life that call these hills their home; The winds speaking to Roland's heart and rising that fearful fire building within the young man whose future seems so unsure.

Indeed, these were beautiful vistas, the same lands which had been home to Bellrisian and Ethian alike. There was a stillness here, like two waters merging together; still only in that one could not tell which river was present. A few feet later, the river would have a new name,
but for the moment, this space in time, there was stillness.

    There had also been quiet, before the streaking star known as Dixon Titanus was close enough to be heard. His flames, dark red-violet, were the searing hurt he felt turned out to the sky. Yes, just so: yesterday had also been very quiet; quiet enough not to notice the painful lashing against Mother Ethe;
still enough to be the emblem of confusion.

There was a sharp explosion. The count punished the ground, leaving a molten-hot figure in the center of a crater some ten metres across and a few bodies deep. He was about a hundred metres from Roland, giving him a safe distance; he wasn't after his blood just yet, but believe you me when one looked into his eyes there was fury to rival heaven and hell.

"Shocking news, eh old boy!" The count continued his march toward Roland's meeting place. "One of our noblest men has been slain like a fat pig: I need to know everything you know," he said, boiling, but giving the man his chance to clear his name.

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

Unlike the fiery count, the baroness entered with more subtle flight. Her wings seemed like ice against the otherwise pleasant sky as they drifted and carried her to the meeting place. She saw the other two, noticing that Dixon had already begun to speak to the prince. He was rightfully furious, and she might have shared that feeling, were her heart not so terribly distracted with other news that was more directly connected with herself and those under her care.

She landed behind the count and allowed her feathers to melt from her frame, giving way to a simple set of robes that suggested a title, but the gleam had been worn down by time and lack of an intensive washing crew. She was a baroness yet, but she chose not to force others to make her estate anything like it used to be. Not when there was building to be done.

Not, yet, when there were still people to mourn and bury. She was crestfallen, but her attention needed to be in the present. Perhaps there would be answers from Sir Roland. Perhaps he could offer some kind of solace. Any kind of answer? Anything she could tell those who had been hurt by what she had only recently heard of herself?

Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris

And so the moment had finally come and the sounds of thunder were heard remote. From afar it looked as though the morning sun had come falling down from the skies but Roland knew that was no star. A face he could read form miles away, Roland knew who had come at his request. The tension was damn thick between two beast of might and pride but the fire was just greeting warmed up; There was a reason the prince wasn't in flashy clothes today. "I know only what you know, and that's the truth. He was crucified and left for all to see...but I'm sure you won't just take my word for it, will you?" There was a reason the prince came with a sword strapped to his side. Depending on how Dixon responded would determine whether or not he'd be using it at all. The prince was no fool and knew he had put himself in danger yet the few tricks hidden up his sleeve would be what kept him keeping his cool. His arms were crossed and his crimson eyes were square on the count's every move but Roland was uncertain how this would play out. Her hoped for the best and expected the worst so his fingers stay at the ready to move quick to his side and slash at his assailant; Should one think of sprouting up spontaneously.

"And what of you, Youkimi?" Roland asks the silent woman whose eyes begged for the truth as well. Like yin and yang between fire and ice, while Dixon had been a falling sun Youkimi was like a shooting star. Her flight was harder to see because of her magical hues of rising morning blues but her powers were something to be reckoned with as well. "Do you wish to accuse me of the atrocity done upon your home? Is your fire trying to burn me down in revenue?" His eyes were sharp in a glaring cover to burn away the doubt in his soul. He was ready, again, for the aggressions that might happen upon him but the prince was no fool. He asked for them out here for a reason. He had done things quietly for a reason.

Whatever happened next was up to the nobles and how they react to the tense prince whose arms stay crossed calmly over his chest. What do they think happened with Archduke Mortimer exactly? How would they know if Roland had a hand in the fires or not? Whatever happened next was up to the nobles and how they reacted, and hopefully something will come of this which no one would regret.

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ Ophelia Estelle Quatrez Queen of Ethe
❛It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one.
We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up.
And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know.
It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is.

Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.❜

○I'm feeling anxious.
●I'm speaking to Dixon, Youkimi and Roland at the moment.
○I'm currently wearing something formal, minus the wings, of course.
●I have 700EC on me.
○I currently have feelings for no one.

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇

Ophelia had been unwell, and her contractions had been a lot worse lately. She had been back and forth between Bellris and Ethe, and had just returned to get a short moment’s rest before she headed back once more. Was it the weather? Or was it the lingering ashes in the air, albeit little. The news she learned just moments earlier wasn’t helping at all. She had been out for the sake of the refugees that have yet returned. The children, the elderly. Ophelia wondered how long it would take for the foster home to be ready. She knew they were trying their best, but the young queen was feeling disheartened and anxious.

The news of Mortimer having been crucified and displayed was horrible. Ophelia had seen the sight, however, she could not recognize who it was. Who could? After how terribly the body was burnt. Her heart throbbed painfully, and mourned for his death. She had thought life was cruel, but who knew, even people could harbour such ill intentions. Ophelia felt terrified. More than she had ever been in a while, not of her safety, but more so the people in all kingdoms. The young, the elderly.

The young queen, after staying a short moment laying beside Kaede’s tombstone, had her newly appointed guard escort her to Bellris, where the refugees were. She would have gone by horses, but apparently, her overprotective guards insisted that one of them fly her there instead. Ophelia could only heave a sigh, though she was thankful over how caring they have been, and she knew, more than anything, that the soldiers and guards she had, were truly remarkable and loyal. If only she was strong. Perhaps she could have protected the families that had been burnt by the volcano’s wrath. Sadly, she couldn’t. And oh, how she wished she could.

The cold air blew against her as she held onto the back of her guard, which was more.. phoenix than human at the moment. It was large, and Ophelia found his wingspan absolutely astounding. She was much bigger than he, than anyone in this kingdom, yet she never realized, despite how small in comparison to her, they were still so.. so remarkably huge. Lower, she asked, and he would bring her down to the waters, where the river flowed endlessly. The waters were clear, and she found it more beautiful than anything.

Then came a soft sqwuak from her guard, who then pointed its beak in the far distance, where two familiar figures stood, and another.. being of high authority. Ophelia made him out to be the Prince of Bellris. Her eyebrows furrowed, already feeling the discomforting tension in the distance. Is this the sixth sense they spoke of? Perhaps so. Perhaps.. it may also be her wishful thinking.

When did they arrive? Did she pass them by?

”Sir Dixon. Lady Youkimi.” she called out, soft, yet her tone stern. The wings flapped before it came to a landing. Her guard was careful, afraid that he might harm the young decendants of the throne she carried in her womb. Which month was it? The seventh? Two more months to go, then. Ophelia cringed, feeling the slight contraction as she stepped down. She’d give them both a small curtsy.

Her cloak draped loosely around her shoulders, and she’d step between both her fellow Etheans, and the Bellris royalty. The air was tensed, and she could feel anger radiating off both Dixon and Youkimi. The former just a tad more obvious than the other.

Was this about Mortimer? Ophelia downcast her gaze shortly before turning her body towards Roland. Ophelia offered yet another curtsy, her head dipped low. ”Young Highness.” she greeted. ”You have my deepest apologies if I have intruded in on an important conversation.” her gaze flickered to her right, and she eyed both Etheans. ”I.. can only assume this may be regarding the recent death of a fellow Ethean?” and the image would flash through her mind, which would inevitably trigger a gag reflex from her. Her hands were quickly brought up to her lips, and she’d regain her composure after, though not without a small ”My apologies..”

Her mismatched coloured eyes returned to the young prince, and his stance had given off a rather.. worrisome feeling. Was something about to happen? She’d step backwards, closer towards the duo, and her head would lower once more in sincerity as she spoke her words of courtesy. ”I would believe this young highness is a fairly generous and understanding individual, so if any misunderstandings have arose..” she paused, and reached her hands towards the two behind her, one hand clasping Youkimi’s while the other, Dixon’s. ”I will give you my word as their queen, that they would not harbour the slightest ill intentions towards you, or your people without any solid reasons.”

He had been studying the former prince, just as he was being studied. He sized him up, what with his assassin garb and his sword. He concluded that he would have to use his reach to bridge the gap between the two; he was confident in his ability to brawl over his opponent.
His eyes narrowed at Roland's words; his fist clenched to follow; heat would soon come to curl around and tighten on the area like a hand to a throat.
By the time Ophelia had arrived the river nearby would be billowing steam.

"That all depends:" --All that boiling rage snapped out of existence like a pot taken off the heat as a voice cut across the field. "--Ophelia..."

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

For the moment the count was quiet. He knew they were elsewhere, but he also knew that as it was now the Queen had effectively brought her court with her; his arms seemed to grow inches as he shoulders relaxed. He gave a curt bow to his queen.

Unfortunately, grabbing Dixon's hand at this point would be like grabbing a hot coal--and it had cooled down some! If she had approached him when he was sizing up Roland...

Regardless, the count pulled his hand away; he did so quickly, offering no apology here for any burns that might have come to Ophelia. He simply was in no mood. Instead of anything else, he inhaled deeply, quickly, and, pinching the bridge of his nose, turned to pace off to the side of the conversation. Eight fingers laced over the crown of his head, and the count threw a couple uppercuts at some invisible opponent. His eyes were barely open; now that he had some space, he was able to cool himself down--poor Youkimi!

Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris

Oh what webs fate will weave.

Roland growled under his breath at Dixon's actions, knowing damn well they may need to go to blows to let hidden disliking go, but now a new sound brought Roland's heart to a racing pace. He didn't expect more people to arrive and couldn't help but feel as though Dixon had planed this unknown factor before meeting with the second in command of the Republic of Bellris. Was this an assassination attempt? Perhaps Roland was giving the count too much credit and thinking he was slyer than he truly was, but what came about from this unexpected entry was worse than what he expected. A guard had arrived with the Queen of Ethe upon his wings and with the woman of power kindly curtsy to him he was obligated to bow to the lady as a knight should; But now his backup plans in case of a fight had to change dramatically, for he couldn't afford to kill a pregnant woman when she reminded him of his own lover's condition.

"Your words are as pretty as your image, Queen Ophelia, but I can see in the eyes of your disciples they have every reason to despise me." Roland had seen the queen before but only once and when he was younger. She and his sister, then queen of Bellris, were to be acquainted when Hysteria inherited the throne and as they two spoke on that day Roland stood in line with the knights who followed Hysteria to guard her with their life; Just as his father Sir Leon Heartrize did for his mother, the late Queen Napaysha Ⅱ. A prince at birth but a dog by design, Roland was never truly in power during the time of Bellris being a queendom but now that quiet and brave little pup stands before them as the fully grown hound with fangs that have been tested and an aura that will not waver.

"I want to ask a simple question to you all; If I had anything to do with the murder or the fire do you think I'd be bold enough to simply stand here and stare you in the face? Do you think I would have the time to ask you, Dixon, out here to ******** brag about something like this while my people are in a damn uproar?" It was clear Roland was pissed off and his emotions were running high too. Things were not going to play out smoothly, or so it looks that way, but giving the chance that diplomacy might reign on this day Roland gives the others one more chance to express their feelings before Roland takes actions and dose what he feels will be best; According to reaction to whatever action the Queen and her blue bloods might take.

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

All panic rose in Youkimi's heart at the sight of the queen. In her condition, she should not have been this far from the palace grounds, least of all outside of the safety of Ethe. Outside of the red fog! The baroness stepped closer, attending the queen, and dared to touch the woman's arm. Yet, before she could stop her, the woman spoke, asking for peace between the two men. Youkimi herself had to swallow her questions for now, but she couldn't think beyond the situation and the urgency of the moment. This place was not safe. It was too open. To uncertain. There were too many things Youkimi didn't know. All of them were nobility so conveniently gathered in one place, and with too few guards, despite the combative ability of the men...

Youkimi disliked the current disposition of both men, who would rise to defend their honor, and while both of them were capable of avoiding the women here, it wasn't a situation Youkimi wanted to see acted out, not in any respect. She didn't want to test it.

And... she didn't despise the prince. No.... right now, he was the only connection in Bellris she trusted. She hoped he had answers, but if he was emotional and shouting, she doubted any questions of her would be answered. As it was, he asked them to test their memories, and angrily so. Dixon's rage was also evident, if for the defense of the people that were of Ethe, who were barely beginning to recover. Yes, he also demanded and wanted answers, which was only logical, but the flaring emotions that burned at the touch betrayed the depth of his feelings on the matter. She only felt it on the air, but knew it well enough.

"Your highness, perhaps it would be in our best interest if we excuse ourselves for Ethe. I have yet to show you Kaishin and I trust these men both to reach a peaceful resolution. There is much that has happened recently."

She turned her attention to Roland, now that he had finished. "Might we exchange letters at a more convenient time? This is a sensitive issue and I would like to afford it all the respect and justice it deserves."

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇

The heat in the air was a tad discomforting, and when her hand was about to reach Dixon’s, she the heat grew. So that was where it had been coming from? She turned to look at the young man, surprised his temper has yet burned his hair off. “Ophelia.” he called, and the queen could only offer a brief nod.

On the other hand, a brief touch fell upon her arm, and she found herself turning to Youkimi, who had been concerned regarding their situation. Despise? No, that wasn’t quite possible. Ophelia didn’t see it in the baroness. Such a hateful emotion harbouring within her kind eyes, it was quite hard to imagine. She’d return the gesture by placing her hand against Youkimi’s. It was reckless, to gather around in large groups that were made up of nobilities. They stuck out like a sore thumb. Was that Youkimi’s concern?

”Despise is a strong word.. I’d like to think that’s not the case with them.” she answered, and added, ”By no means am I purposely siding with my people. However, if there really has been anything that had offended you, then I apologize in their stead.” the queen has always been rather.. submissive. Perhaps it was because of how the king of Ethe had once pampered her, or perhaps, she just didn’t see the need to be headstrong at the moment. ”Ethe suffered great loss in this short period of time, and we’re all still recovering.. With the brutal death of another that followed, it is only normal for them to feel riled up- So, please, I plead you overlook such actions with patience-”

The tension was evident between the two men, Roland made that clear enough. Dixon, on the other hand, had begun to cool down, and she only prayed his anger would receed. The queen chose not to butt into their business, and allowed them both to settle for themselves. Youkimi spoke, requesting that they both return to Ethe, but Ophelia would protest. She was just headed for Bellris, after all. ”But.. what of the refugees? I’m sure they’re afraid--” they would be. The death of a noble, at that. She paused, eventually falling silent altogether. ”..Alright.. Let us return..” and in the end, Ophelia gave in to Youkimi’s request. It would be.. reckless of her to return to where an attack had just taken place. She didn’t want to jeopardize the safety of her children, and the baroness.

Though before she would depart, her gaze locked onto Dixon’s, and a light frown tugged her lips. ”Dixon.” she called out, and honestly, the queen was fed up with the violence that surrounded the kingdoms. ”I forbid any violence to take place. This is an order. I expect you to return to Ethe in one piece. Our men have far greater things to do than come all the way out here just to collect the remains of another casualty.” she was upset, more so towards the chain of tragedies that took place, than the young man’s patience that has been wearing thin. She stepped towards him, and instead of bidding farewell, a hard flick was inflicted onto his forehead. ”Calm your temper. You’ve always been that hot-tempered child.” or at least, that was what she had heard from her parents when she was only a child. ”Self defense doesn’t count though, you’re always allowed to fight back then--” she whispered.

Ophelia was much like a child, really, though most of the times, she’d behave more.. motherly than childish. ”Lady Youkimi- you seem a tad upset-” she returned to Youkimi’s side. They were all upset, really. ”Perhaps you’d like to talk over a cup of tea?” it was a kind offer, but she was not obligated to accept if it’s not to her liking. ”Or perhaps.. you’d all speak over a cup of tea? Two nobles standing out in an open field.. It sticks out like a sore thumb, does it not?” and it was out of concern for their safety, that she had asked, and they were not obligated to accept either. Or.. if an attack were to happen, perhaps the both of them could bond over a good fight? Who knew? It wasn’t her business to butt in to begin with.

"NNNN!" Dixon, flicked, was immediately reduced to an annoyed kitten, batting at the air. "Right!" Grumbles ensue.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

It would appear, though, that this was not the day to pick fights. With the queen and Youkimi leaving, however, there would be little to stop this fight from taking place. Dixon re-steadied himself and gave a soft bow to the two of them, eventually turning to face Roland again. This time, though, there was something of a smirk on his face. It was there enough, like the thinnest of rainclouds. He would wait until they were alone to speak.

"Relax, mate, I'm not here to fight," said the count, turning ninety degrees and fishing out a f** from his pocket--hand-rolled!--and a touch and... Voila!

"Never was, truthfully, but I'm glad you're so set to defend your honor, old boy, tell you I am," chuckled the count. He gave the former prince a sideways, knowing glance. "What? I had lunch with you yesterday, eh? Wouldn't expect me to blame you without proof, didn't I tell you?" He took a puff and started walking calmly toward Roland.

"Now then..." He stood before the princely man, looking down out of accident, not derision. "You and I have business to talk about, innit?" He pointed to the sword at Roland's hip. "Though I do wonder what's the design here, eh?"

Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris

"Youkimi, please wait." A complete one-eighty from how he barked a moment ago, the prince takes a single desperate step forth and pleas; his voice reach out to the ones who had much reason to suspect him of treachery. "If what you say is true and you want to give this situation the full respect it deserves then you wouldn't leave...but, I understand you wanting to leave. This situation is sensitive and I'm also certain. But one thing I'm certain of is my need of and your kindness. Which is why I ask this; If I need to leave Bellris for some reason, please let me stay with you."

The prince then turned to the queen, her glow apparent and condition well thought of by her subordinates, and gave her a respecting bow for what he was to say and what her very presence has done to quell the instability of this meeting. Gods, Roland felt like he was sweating pounds underneath this supposed light armor; The one plate of steel at the chest not making things any easier. "That is if you would even allow me into your lands, Queen Ophelia. I wouldn't dare undermine your authority nor wish to burden your people with trouble that is not yours to be responsible with. I just feel that, my sister...there is something happening with Hysteria. I worry some actcadent might be trying to befall me soon and if so I thought maybe you would be charitable enough to let me hide it out for a while."

Roland knew that it was wishful thinking to place a bet on aid from someone else, and even more so when it was someone who had no real reason to aid him, but the prince was running out of options and time. "I would take you up on that offer of tea, but I feel there are other things that need to be settled. " And so he'd let the two women walk at their pace and brace himself for what Dixon had in store for him. That god damn Dixon had something else up his sleeve, however, and his smirking trick had Roland looking as clueless as a lad in a brothel. "You are one clever actor my friend. One of the best displays in my life!" He chuckles away that tense gut feeling he had and from there he figured things were safe for the time being.

"My sword Dyrnwyn is of Bellrisan design and made by the assistance of dark magic. I would get into details but it's not really for those who have a more...noble view of how things in the world should work." Roland would say something about his blade strapped to his side to ease the count's mind but he also felt it fair since maybe a minute ago they must have thought he was going to use it on them. Had Dixon or Youkimi attacked then of course the blade would have been drawn but seeing as he didn't have to play his hand he was surely glad everyone would be leaving in one piece. "Since we're alone now there is something I wanna ask of you, Dixon." He'd speak in a serious tone, seeing as what he was to say might get him in huge trouble if the wrong ears were to hear.

"As we know by the news it seems hell is braking out in Bellris. If things keep us as they are I'm not so sure I can support my sister much longer...which is why I am for your assistance in a civil war should one brake out in Bellris." How did things come to this with Roland seemingly alone before others and making perorations for a war. He knew about the civil war of the empire and how he helped, but now it would seem he has his own actions to think about and his own will for power to see to; Whether they be for good or for evil.

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

Perhaps the heated emotions of moments before, or perhaps her own startled and immediate concern for the situation had distracted her, but she found herself surprised at the change in the tone that hovered in the air between the four of them. The guard that accompanied the queen made no bold move, but the baroness thought she detected a concerned tension hidden under the armor. Nevertheless, the situation had shifted to an odd angle, one that dispelled the anger and seemed to open up conversation. Also, there was a plea from the prince.

He had been her ally and one of the chief individuals who offered help to the refugees from Ethe. If the tables were now turning, she felt honorbound to open her door to him and those who shared his cause. However, there was caution here, especially as she still couldn't have known the full case of what happened in Bellris. She only barely caught wind of the posted corpse outside of the fog herself. Nevertheless.... She knew desperation well. Were the situation a little less strained on certain matters, she would have stayed. Were it just herself with the two gentlemen, she would have dared to linger.

Ah.... yet as she thought of it, why was it that the voice of guards and protective friends suggested that she left herself too exposed here? Just as the men before her did? Just as the queen currently was?

Though.... unfortunately, it couldn't be as simple as relocating to Ethe. The protective fog was still poisonous to those who originated outside of their lands. The prince would have been stifled in mid-flight.

"Were it possible..." She said quietly, almost distressed that this wasn't something that could be so simply answered. And as long as the fog was there, she couldn't open Kaishin as safe ground. Even if she could, she had no armed guards or militia. It would be impossible to defend against a seasoned army or organized force.

But what land was safe for discussion outside of Ethe? When there were so many confrontations and hostilities across the land? Here, they were worried about the open road. Was it safe here? She bit her lip. "The fog remains.. but your highness, shall we fly ahead?"

"Thank you, good prince!" Saluted the count, taking a theatrical bow. "I have come to enjoy the theatre--if that be the only thing worthwhile in noble life; though I must say, it wasn't all acting..." He sighed, clenching his fist and tossing it to the side. An arc of flames came rolling off its trajectory.

"Aye, it might've been fabricated in purpose, but I wouldn't lie: the death of our esteemed Duke leaves me with a fury I cannot easily quell." Dixon looked away; his aura was a dark blue now, and his eyes reflected a sadness not hinted at by his speech.

Roland's explanations really did clear a lot up. Though, that's not to say they didn't also bring with them more questions. He was curious about the sword, yes, but that was less important now. It simply meant that this was a knightly individual: one who would no sooner dishonor his blade than a foe. Truthfully, Dixon looked up to this quality and greatly admired Roland for it.

Something about trouble in Bellris? It must've been very serious indeed! For to say so only now, with no word in the interceptable correspondence of postage, could only have meant that he could trust no one with the matter; as Dixon heard this, he tilted down, a hard line at the left of his mouth, filled with honor in the confidence and disgust at the very thought of an uprising against such a man. He found a rock to sit on.

"Aye," he sighed. "shame that. Terrible, really." He was wringing his hands, eyes on a patch of bare soil.. He turned the words Roland told him over in his mind slowly, cataloging each revelation as best his mind could at the moment.

“Hysteria’s family to you, old boy, so I’ll say this as blankly as I can,” continued the count. “... She’s making a fool of you.” He turned to meet the young prince’s gaze, apology stamped on his face. “I’m sure you already know that.” And then it was back out into the field. He held some rocks in his hands, letting them scrape and be scraped. “What do you plan to do? .
