Again, like his previous responses to the amenities the Prytaneum had to offer, Osmond's eyebrows rose and his lips puckered ready to whistle out a note of his awe. He stopped short of doing so come Max's low tone and the forewarning that even at that time of day, classes were in session. Instead, his face settled on pursing his lips and keeping his eyebrows perpetually sloped.

Despite being a teacher, the prospect of pursing knowledge beyond his general intelligence formed a lump in his throat. In the past, he tried to pursue his masters, but it was around that time his divorce came in and... well... the rest is history cut down by guilt and long nights of drunken hazes. It's when even the comfort of a classroom setting couldn't lift his spirits.

"Out of curiosity, though classes are optional, would anything we learn here go toward high school or college credit?" he asked Max. "Y'know, just asking for some of the younger people here still in the middle of their education."

It would be interesting to see what Tom could learn here. He was already mostly done with schooling, excluding ongoing teaching of new medicinal things, but he really wondered what they would be learning here. He wanted to ask the question burning in the back of his mind, but felt as though it may be too irritating perhaps. "Besides regular classes, what would we be learning here?" But he kept his mouth shut.

Why he was feeling so nervous here he had no clue, but it was starting to bother him. Hopefully he would get his courage back the longer he was here and the more people he talked to.

"Mmhm. Yet." He did recall a time when he'd been small and cute and trouble had wicked right off of him, and while he could still put on a certain harmless charm, it didn't last when he was forced to interact with the same people every day. "If I don't find the angry ones, someone else will." Like high school all over again. He grinned at the memory.

"But I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. Not everyone's a jock, and I can only guess that there are plenty of people around here who won't hit me too." Zan's hand abruptly shot into the air, fingers fluttering for a second as he raised his voice. "Can we submit proposals for one-on-one study?" He paused, lowering his arm and clasping it behind his back. "I don't want to miss out on something if no one else is into it." He very nearly added a bit about handling balls in private, since he and his new friend had been talking about juggling, but he kept it to himself. There was no reason to poke at people just because he found this part of the tour utterly useless. First impressions and all that.

He melted back into the crowd and relative obscurity. "I'm Zan, by the way," he said to the woman, his voice a whisper again.

"We're accredited, if that's what you're asking; Athena has taken care of that." She smiled, tipping her head just a hair. "But people are also welcome to come and go here as they please, so they can continue their college education elsewhere if they prefer. If you'd like, you can come here only on weekends, or only in the summer -- however you prefer to go about using the facilities at your disposal.

"Once this orientation period is over, we'll be opening up pathways for everyone to go home as desired. You'll learn how you learn, and make the most of what you've been given."

"If there's something you want to study, there are forms you can leave on my desk, and I can try to bring someone in. You might be surprised, though; other people might be interested in what you are as well..."

One small additional attempted to sneak into the group. not that one could be particularly stealthy when they were wearing pinks and whites and floral prints and had unnaturally colored hair.

"Sorry I'm late," Stormy mumbled, clutching her journal. She'd probably gotten lost attempting to find the group on such a large campus.

The classrooms building was for Jan, possibly one of the most exciting of all the buildings they'd visited so far, he was of the opinion that one could only be bettered by lifelong learning and the idea that here they would facilitate almost any inclination was very interesting indeed. Of course, there was the issue of potentially choosing things which conflicted with the way he wanted to present himself to others, but he would see what he could do. Piano, was as always very high on his list of important skills, and if it was possible to refine this or the culinary arts further he intended to do so. Perhaps he could even get re-accredited as a vet over time. It opened a great many doors to him and held his most rapt attention.

He was a little haughtier about the food, used to cooking for himself and adhering to a very choosy high standard. Still, it would be handy to have meals on hand if he felt like being lazy.

Sylvia gave an amused sort of smile, brows raised and a nod of her head, “It is only a matter of time before someone does.” Or, perhaps, before everyone did, depending on just how touchy the ‘angry ones’ were. She hoped she could stay out of most of the immediate conflict. In that interest, perhaps she shouldn’t give away too readily what she did for a living – whether she specialized in couples or not, it was only a matter of time before someone designated her as the person to go to if you had problems. It had already happened several times in her life, and while she had no problem setting those boundaries, she’d put off the issue for as long as possible if she could.

She waited for him to step forward and ask his question before responding to his second comment, “True enough–” a glance at him, “I probably won’t hit you.” She’d never been in a physical altercation, and she didn’t really plan on becoming the kind of person who’d jump right into one either. Then again, the world was changing.

She was glad to hear that, if she did choose to take some classes here, she would be attending an accredited school and possibly have a tangible reward for any of her efforts. It helped to know that she wouldn’t just be learning, she’d have something to show for it in the real world, even if she would still be here for… well, who knew how long. It was also good to know that she could put in requests, though she wasn’t sure what she’d ask after.

For that matter, something occurred to her and she stepped forward with her own question, “You said that you bring in Chosen who are experts to teach – but could any of us teach a class, if we wanted?” She’d never been entirely interested in teaching, but reflecting on her earlier musings of being recruited as a counselor, maybe she could give some sort of small talk on conflict resolution if it really came to it. Not that it would help the hotter heads, but for others willing to listen… who knew.

At the introduction, Sylvia turned her torso slightly to look at him a bit more head-on. “Sylvia,” she offered a hand and a warm smile, “Nice to meet you.” Finally making way into getting to know each other, she wondered if she shouldn’t ask the rather pertinent question to their current surroundings. “So,” she turned back to watch the group as she did so, “which God or Goddess brought you here?”

"With any responsibility comes rules and regulations," she agreed idly, glancing around the classrooms. High school was a long time ago, but she was pretty sure it never looked like this. It all seemed so...vague, but the idea of it being self-starting appealed to Rose's nature. "I imagine wielding magic in the name of a deity isn't much different." What could start in favor, after all, could easily fall out of.

But Cas' words amused her. Sea and horses were at his core? How interesting. She didn't want to interrupt his question, taking a moment to glance around.

Spotting two others that were just catching up, she motioned to the shy looking man who looked like he wanted to disappear and his seeming polar opposite - a brightly colored female that mumbled something she didn't quite catch. "Come, join us, we've only toured the kitchens and the classrooms." Rose smiled softly, trying not only to impart a sense of welcome, but ease. They were all in this together, after all.

“You said that you bring in Chosen who are experts to teach – but could any of us teach a class, if we wanted?”

"If you have the skill, not only can you, but you'll be pressed into service." Max winked once -- and with that, she led them out of the Classrooms building and up the hill to where the Apollo dorm sat.

----------------------

Here the Laboratory building: extremely quiet, similar to the Classrooms building in most ways, except that this one is all science and learning. Sleek windows lead in to small rooms prepped for the study of chemistry, biology, medicine specifically -- alternating with more seminar rooms filled with rows of quiet desks. A handful of people work during the day, blithely unaware of any intruders. A couple classrooms turn to look at the sound of any footsteps, glaring just a bit.

Max's tour of the facilities was quick: in and out and down the hill again, explaining as they walked, "We have some of the finest scientific minds at our disposal as well, but the science we do is -- well. It's two fold. Since magic is at our midst, we have the ability to make things that no one out there could. A mix of medicine and potions, the study of human anatomy and of stranger things. Even experts have something to learn here."

No questions now, either: instead she led them away, past the Hephaestus dorm and onward.

----------------------

The Studio is only one story at this level, an old construction with a high ceiling that is retrofitted inside with rooms that can be used for all kinds of invention. None of the doors, on the first floor, match each other, as if a different minds have fought over which is the best and have decided to experiment to find out. It is not tdirty, but it also isn't pristine the way the other buildings are -- there is clutter, things pushed aside or into place, some rooms worse than others.

As soon as they stepped inside, the Chosen were assaulted by a howling, overwhelming sound that made asking any questions impossible, so Max conveyed 'hold on to to your thoughts' as best she could with a shout and a wave of her arms -- peering into the first room to see what was causing all the ruckus. There was Brynn, small and chubby and perhaps not as covered in protective gear as she should have been, considering the fact that she was welding two pieces of metal together onto a sculpture that looked something like how Picasso might draw a robot. Her face was hidden behind a protective mask, and the frayed, pastel mess of her hair was covered carefully with a handkerchief so it wouldn't catch on fire.

She couldn't hear them. Didn't so much as look up. But it gave a good idea of what the Studio was: rooms like this one, some big and some small, all equipped to the gills with everything required to put out any fires, either literal or figurative. Half-finished weapons, inventions, artistic endeavors on rows of shelves or crammed into corners: the Studio was not a tidy building. Not upstairs, at least.

Once they followed a staircase down into the basement it was a different story. Here they could pause and catch their breath, neither afraid of interrupting work nor overwhelmed by sound themselves. Ears still ringing. Max shook her head a little pointing to the doors that lined either side of the hallway where they stood.

"The basement and these rooms, these are soundproof, to keep the chaos upstairs from invading. Here you can find server rooms and computer rooms and everything you might need to work on things with more moving parts." She still looked a bit dazed herself. The Studio was not her favorite building, and it showed. She patted at her hair and eyed the Chosen.

"These rooms, and the supplies found with in, and supplies that can be ordered and brought in, are also yours for your own experiments, if you have a project that will help further your god's goals. You just have to sign up for the time.

Rob remained quiet as he followed Max and the others through several other buildings: the Kitchens, the Classrooms, the Laboratory. He had thoughts and questions, but they were mostly addressed by other Chosen, so he continued to keep his cakehole shut and listen. His main thoughts right now, though, were on his empty belly and how soon they could get back to the Kitchens and dining hall and when dinner would be served.

It was the Studio, however, that really caught his interest. He wasn't an artist or inventor, but he was a musician, one who played his music very very loudly. He wasn't fazed by the racket coming out of Brynn's studio -- he'd been exposed to loud noises all his career as a punk musician, so this was really nothing to him. His interest was piqued further when they went down into the soundproofed basement. This would be perfect for his needs.

"Excuse me," Rob said as he raised his hand. "Would it be possible to set up, say, a recording or rehearsal studio down here? I've got all me own gear, just no place to put it 'cept me room..." He let his words trail off, leaving the implication that despite his punk attitude he really didn't want to disturb anyone else in the dorm.

Tom smiled a bit as he was addressed. Well, at least he could talk to someone? He moved a bit closer to the woman as they were walking. "Well, it's my fault for coming here late, already missed part of it. But at least we're getting the rest of the tour." He couldn't think of anything else to say, they were starting to move faster now, specifically the laboratory/Apollo dorm building which interested him greatly.

He wondered how the mix of science and magic would work. And he took a bit longer to look in prep rooms and others. Although he was going into a general practice, it would be interesting to see how magic would work into all of it. And of course this would be his dorm building, so he would have easy access to all of this.

His ears hurt after they had gone through the Hephaestus dorm and studios. These weren't quite as interesting to him but perhaps he might use them at one point.

He stayed near the woman and tried to make some conversation. "Well, these buildings certainly are quite interesting, even if they aren't your patron gods building."

The studio was incredibly noisy.

Lincoln winced away at the sound, his arms still folded resolutely across his chest, leaning back slightly as though attempting to distance himself from the sound of the young woman's melding. He eyed the sculpture somewhat warily, and was eternally grateful when they came out of earshot of the monstrosity of a sound.

He did not do well around loud noises.

In the lower rooms, Lincoln followed alongside the others, dark hair swinging behind him. His eyes flickered once more across the gathering of people that had formed, but for the most part, his attention was on Max and her instructions as she spoke of their surroundings.

He thought, briefly, he had seen a flash of familiar pink hair, but - no, that was impossible.

Frowning slightly, his voice low and graveling, Lincoln asked, "What sorts of experiments? Are there any limitations or guidelines to be followed, or are we just expected to be careful and ethical?"

"There is one. It should be in the labs, but it's here; I guess the creative practice migrated at some point." She pointed down the hall, idly. "You can come back later at your leisure to explore, quietly. Make sure not to interrupt anyone's work. Look first, ask second, then you can go in."

"No one said anything about being careful or ethical." Maybe she was joking. maybe she was completely serious. Either way, that was all Max had to say.

Mathilda glanced around the workspaces, mildly bored. The computers interested her though, and she hoped that they were up to date. She had some games to catch up on.

"Hey. Anyone up for some games eventually? I don't see why we can't have some ordered."

"O-Okay." Kitchens and classrooms didn't seem like just an only, but Stormy acquiesced to the woman's request and melted a little further into the group. It wasn't too hard to, given how waifish she was.

It became a battle of taking notes-- people, questions and answers, locations--and actually looking at her surroundings. She imagined this was what college campuses would be like. Would have been like? Stormy never did get to do the college tours, having mostly put them off and only just then being in her senior year. It wasn't the most prepared plan for her future, but then she had never been good about doing so. Not to mention being called out by a god from her Kindle sort of threw a wrench into things, knowing now that it hadn't been a vivid dream.

And speaking of: Stormy couldn't help but wonder who she'd end up rooming with. She tried to sneak a few peeks around at people, looking for other little lyre symbols of Apollo. Coincidentally, the woman who had called her over, as well as the man who had been invited in around the same time, wore them, and so she slunk a little closer.

Already she was getting a bit anxious. How couldn't she next to Mr. Cowboy and Ritzy Dame?

Her own questions were beginning to bubble up as a few more people chimed in. One voice was suspiciously familiar, but enough people were gathered that...hmm. She continued to scribble before piping up, seemingly unfazed by the sound barrier-breaking jaunt through The Studio.

"What's the rule about outside connections? Like calls or texts to friends n' fam?" she asked, her voice still carrying a soft lilt even though she wasn't mumbling anymore. One wondered if she could even hear herself. "Do we stay year-round, or do we get vacations in winter n' summer or something?"
